Now that Rin had returned from her first dance and greeted Margeaux, there was a rather important matter to discuss. Specifically who would take the next turn at dancing. Though her cotton candy haired friend had told Ubu she would be the next partner, the American's arrival complicated things a tad. Actually Margeaux sounded really excited to go out dancing next with Rin but restrained her enthusiasm after a second. Thinking about dancing in this environment had Ubu grasping for straws really. At Halloween they had more upbeat music that all three girls just improvised dances too. This was more formal and Ubu felt like maybe she should know how to dance like this before she jumped in.
There was also the matter that this was Christmas. You should give gifts to people you liked and there was no one at Astraea she liked better than these friends. Margeaux really wanted to take the next dance and Rin was their mutual friend. A plan hatched in her mind at that point which would solve both her total lack of knowledge about ballroom dancing and let Margeaux have the gift of the next dance. Ubu tipped her hat back on her head a little as she watched her two friends and broke into a big grin. This was a brilliant idea!
"Ne, I don't know anything about dancing this way actually. But I'll bet if I watch other people doing it then I'll pick it up pretty quick. So why don't you take the next dance, Margeaux-chan? I'll wait in the wings and learn how to dance by watching you two! Don't worry, I'll still be here when you get back," Ubu answered, reaching over to give Margeaux a little push in Rin's direction. Yup, this solved everything! So why did it make her feel a little sad that she wasn't taking up that next dance with either girl herself? Nevermind, it was time to learn by watching!

They walked further into the auditorium, past a couple seated on a couch in the foyer who looked fairly happy. That made the hairs on the back of Kanako's neck stand up; what had her parents told her about women like that? A bad influence. Yet the girls looked happy together so was it really harming anyone if they were involved romantically? Assuming they were. Regardless she prayed that she had the strength to move forward despite the dilemma posed by such questions. There was still this younger girl with a troubling past for her to look after. Cece she was sure about - she wanted to help the girl no matter what.
Cece's reaction to the simple gift brought a smile to the raven haired girl's face. Clearly she hadn't expected to receive anything despite it being Christmas time in a welcoming environment such as Astraea Hill. It wasn't surprising that the albino first year apologized for not having something to give in return. That seemed to be the kind of thing that Cece did normally. What caught Kanako's attention more directly was that suddenly she was Kanako-oneesama, rather than Kanako-sama. She was filled with joy at hearing the traditional honorific for older girls attending Astraea's sister schools. Now Cece was starting to adapt to her new world, which would help her overcome the tragic things which had probably happened to her.
"You're welcome, Cece-chan. It's not much but I thought that it suited you nicely.. it's simple but beautiful. You don't need to get me anything either. Calling me 'Kanako-oneesama' is the best gift I could hope for on Christmas," she replied to the younger girl, patting her on the head before adding, "That.. and seeing Cece-chan happy."
Around that time she spotted another girl who looked around Cece's age standing near the refreshments. A girl with silver hair, wearing clothes totally unsuited for a formal ball like this. That fedora she was wearing looked awfully familiar too. No, it was probably just a coincidence; judge not lest you be judged. So instead of raising her suspicions Kanako walked in the girl's direction with Cece in tow. Once they were close (but not too close) she glanced at the oddly dressed girl and then back to Cece.
"Would you like to meet someone new, Cece-chan? I'll bet that girl over there would be happy to talk to you," she assured her charge before smiling kindly, "And don't worry about a thing, I'll be right at your side if you need me."

"Okay then," The pinkette agreed with a smile and presented her hand, "Shall we then?" It was then she and the American proceeded to the dance floor. She felt some sort of tinge about Ubu giving up her turn, but that was okay right? She'd get to go next. Or maybe Ubu wanted to dance with Margeaux? They could all take turns right? She let these worries vanish as she took the feminine stance for the waltz.
This was fun, though this girl didn't stand nearly as close to her as Aki had.
"Ne, Malgulu-chan, I heard westerners dance differently to slow music. It's really close together, just turning in a circle. Is that right? Aki-chan tried to show me but I stepped on her foot. Did I do it wrong?"
Standing so close to someone would make her blush again, but she worried. Maybe she seemed a little dense not knowing the American slow dance? She could waltz for hours and not miss a beat, but slow dancing was so intricate, so close. The steps had to be so precise. It was really hard!
Of course, Rin was over-thinking a very simple way of dancing. She looked worried, maybe that's why Aki had left so suddenly? Maybe she had embarrassed her. She made up her mind to apologize later. For now, she was with Margeaux.
"Oh hey, did you ever try your hand at drawing?" She smiled, she almost wanted to tease her, but in the end, she question was sincere; blue eys shining up at her with interest.

With Ubu's encouragement (and an actual push in the right direction) Margeaux took Rin's hand and was soon heading for the dance floor. The pinkette took the female stance which left the redhead with the lead. Dancing was simple enough...at least it was once she found her way towards the rhythm of the song. She smiled back at the Miator and stood at the proper distance. They weren't the best moves on the dance floor, but Margeaux could pull off looking like she knew what she was doing. She just hoped that they were passing along something Ubu could use.
Although, Rin had asked about something a bit less traditional. Margeaux gave a curious tilt to her head, as the cloth that draped over her face swayed to the side to reveal the black eye patch that it wasn't really doing a good job of covering up, anyways. A look of bemusement crossed her face, as she heard about Aki's poor feet.
"Usually, you try to avoid that." she said, "But, what can you expect when you try something new? The first time I actually tried playing guitar, my hands were so clumsy, I couldn't figure out what I was doing. You just need to get your feet used to it."
She blushed a bit, when Rin brought up drawing. Margeaux had been trying to get something done. One thing was for sure, she wasn't a natural. But, when she wasn't playing her guitar she was doodling. In fact, she had been working on a piece to give Rin...which was waiting for tomorrow morning to receive her first critique.
"Uhh, yeah...I've been dabbling a bit." she replied a slight hesitation to her voice. Her first attempts were definitely not something fit for public consumption, "Like I said...you gotta practice, right? Speaking of which..."
She moved in a little closer as she slowed her steps down a bit, "...want to try dancing like us Westerners? It'll be fun! And my feet can take whatever punishment you can dish out, so don't even worry."

The nickname had been used before, but for some reason, being called 'Cece-chan' felt even more special now. Maybe it was because she had a title to call the older girl who'd helped her out so much. Cecilia could only look up in wide-eyed wonder and confusion when Kanako told her that it was all fine. "Ano… Are you sure, Kanako-oneesama?" she asked before the other girl pushed her to move off and go socialize. "If Kanako-oneesama wants me to." Her quiet voice masked none of her nervousness about what the older girl wanted her to do.
Fortunately, the girl Kanako had indicated was speaking with Rin, so at least she knew someone over there. It'd make it easier to approach them. However, that didn't make her any less nervous as she slipped out of Kanako's protective arm and made her way over toward the group of other first years, only to become even more nervous than before when Rin started dancing with one of the other two girls, leaving the silver haired girl alone. Now even more nervous, Cecilia froze in place and desperately looked back to Kanako for guidance.
Now standing about halfway between Kanako and the silver haired girl, she was caught between several divergent desires. First, she didn't want to let the Le Rim girl down, but she didn't know the other girl, and without Rin there to help her, she wasn't quite sure she could just start talking to the silver haired girl. Cecilia just kept glancing back and forth between the two girls, unable to decide what she should do, desperately wishing someone would help her.

As Cece made her way over to where the small congregation of first years had been talking, Kanako was in the back smiling and waving her forward. Of course she was nervous an afraid for the girl but this was an important step for her. Apparently she'd met one girl her age other than Ruri already which was a very pleasant surprise. Hopefully this silver haired girl who was inappropriately dressed for a Ball would be kind to the newest Miator student as well. As it turned out the kind hearted older girl needn't have worried about her charge.
Ubu for her part watched with keen interest as her two friends took the dance floor together and hoped to pick up some dance moves by watching them. As she kept an eye on their movements the best she could, she got this feeling she couldn't explain. Like the mere fact that she was only watching Rin and Margeaux dance, and dance together instead of with her, was unsettling. All she could tell is that her two closest friends actually enjoyed each other's company pretty well, which surprised her. But good! Rin and Margeaux were becoming really good friends and it's all okay. That satisfaction lasted mere seconds before she had the feeling in the pit of her stomach that she was being left behind. Not that anyone meant to cause that. But she wanted to share special moments with those two, or to be active.. or something. Was she jealous? The silvernette shook the thought and then turned her head just in time to spot someone new.
A very, very pale girl who hadn't worn a gown but instead plain and unremarkable clothes. She stood a slight distance from the fedora-wearing Miator, but that distance stood no chance against Ubu. With a spring in her step she strode over to the new girl and noticed that she looked to be about the same age. Perfect! Ubu saw that she was quite distressed, maybe overwhelmed by everything going on at once. There was a strange exoticness about her that went beyond pale skin, white hair or red eyes.. red eyes! That was pretty cool! Definitely the girl stood out in a crowd and that was enough to make Ubu decide on her next course of action rather abruptly.
Once in front of the girl she grinned and tipped her hat, "Good evening! You look kind of lost.. my name's Ubu.. would you like to be my friend?"
Then she held out her arm, bent at the elbow, "Come on, let's dance! I want to get out there instead of spending the whole time in the shadows! It'll be fun, I promise!"

A bright, warm smile washed over Rin's features. She was glad her friend had been trying, "I'm so happy-" she didn't finished her statement though as Margeaux asked her to try American dancing again and she felt her heart beat faster with nervousness. Would it confuse Ubu? She glanced off to shee Ubu was no longer watching them, but instead talking to a very familiar girl with white hair and pretty red eyes. Cece would be okay, she was in good hands with Ubu to take care of her, and Cece knew how to dance well enough from class that Ubu might learn a few things. It was okay. So, knowing she wasn't needed as a model dancer anymore, she could accept Margeaux's offer. She felt herself blushing as she answred with a confident, "Hai."
She stiffened a little, trying to remember how Aki had her stand, she moved her arms up around the red-head's neck. "Like this?" she asked, a red haze over her cheeks and nose.
She stared down at her feet. It would be so hard not to step on her this close. She watched them carefully, shuffling a little. "Who's leading?" she asked nervously. Or maybe in this dance, there was no lead? It was hard to figure out. Maybe she should just relax? Just then a step on her gown sent her off balance and stepping not only on Margeax's foot as well as her gown, but sent Rin almost falling on her friend.
Luckily, she caught herself and stabilized, she took a step back and held out her arms. "Gomen," she giggled, relaxing. One blunder was okay. "Let's start over, tell me what to do." she smiled.
((for some reason that song, i cant fight this feeling by reo speedwagon was in my head during this post.))

Naoko reentered the auditorium, with a new heaviness to her coin purse. Not a literal coin purse, actually. it was the wallet she had kept in her coat's pocket. But, coin purse fit the pirate theme she had opted for, tonight. Regardless, the point of the matter was she had closed a rather profitable deal with some upperclassman from St. Spica. Someone who intended to enjoy the night a bit more than was probably intended. The dance floor was packed, but it seemed like she had arrived just after a song had ended. With a new one around the corner, Naoko started to look for a few single girls for the next number. That purple haired girl was already talking to a blonde holding a stuffed animal. And people called her weird. While a girl with black hair sat and shuffled some playing cards. Poker? At the Ball? Naoko doubted that. The nuns certainly wouldn't approve of it. Which she was now starting to think might be a fun thing to do. Well, there wasn't time for that. There were a few other girls, here and there. The esteemed Etoile couple, naturally. Naoko resisted the great temptation that existed to cut in and get some time with one of those two. It would make for quite the scandal. The other familiar face was that of a redhead she had met out in the woods, once. What was her name? It started with a J, didn't it? Well, she would just have to make up an endearing nickname and act like she remembered. She was about to move in, when she spotted a familiar blonde wearing a very non-traditional outfit. Naoko redirected her path and closed the gap, pretty quickly. "Well, well someone's looking to turn a few heads." she smirked. "And not doing a bod job of it, either." She glanced at a couple of girls who turned a curious gaze their way, before they noticed Naoko and quickly returned to whatever was originally occupying their interest. She smirked back and winked at Naoko, linking arms with her as she whispered softly in her ear. "That's not true, Naoko-chan. I did all of this, for you~". It sounded like the kind of girly line she'd say once when she was younger, or reading a shoujo manga or something. But....it's what she really felt for Naoko-chan. "Shall we go?" She asked, and well even if she didn't want to she had no choice. Kakura was far too daring and into Naoko to let her go. So she walked to a part of the dance floor that wasn't used yet, and didn't have anybody there. She then started blushing nervously. "This isn't like me at all. Girlie stuff, I thought I was past that. But then I met you, Naoko-chan." She said as she started moving her legs in beat with the music. She thought she could do a bit of break dancing, but then she noticed that her dress was a little too big and she almost stepped on it. As she slipped, she chuckled. "Sorry, I slipped." She said in a soft voice that might've shocked Naoko coming from the blonde-haired gangster chick. Then she started acting more like herself as she let herself fall into Naoko's arms, sliding them around her waist. "You know, it's hard finding people here who understand you. Who know where you're coming from and who wants to have the same fun you do. That's probably why I'm falling for you, Naoko-chan. It also doesn't hurt matters that you're a looker yourself." She winked again and continued dancing with her partner.

She hadn't considered if the change in dance would mess Ubu up. A fact that soon became a moot point as soon as a white haired girl approached the other Miator and started to speak with her. Hopefully they would make it to the dance floor. After all, she wouldn't want Ubu to be bored on her account. She smiled as Rin moved her arms around her neck and agreed to give that style of dancing another shot.
"Yeah, that should work." she said, her hands drifting down towards Rin's waist, as she moved back and forth in time to the music. As for who was leading...Well, she supposed she was in the lead. Technically. But, for the most part, they were both just kind of moving to the music. It wasn't a very technical dance.
"Well, I'd say --" she was cut off when Rin tripped and stumbled. She stepped on her gown and foot and nearly sent Margeaux sprawling out on the floor. The two managed to keep themselves upright and with a laugh had to get back into their previous position.
Margeaux grinned and shook her head, "OK, let's get your arms back up here..." she slid the pinkette's arms back up around her neck and then returned her own limbs to their original position. The only hesitation came as Margeaux waited for the right place in the song to start moving again.
"Right...now, you're just going to want to take it easy. Stay close to the beat of the song and just move like I'm moving. Just go left foot, right foot...left foot, right foot..." she explained, "There's not much else you really need to do. Other than have some fun, of course."

Arm in arm, Naoko made way to the dance floor. Her long coat trailed along behind her as she held the smirk on her face as they got started. Kakura spoke honestly. She had gotten pretty good at noticing when people were lying and this was not one of those times. It was a very interesting little detail. As the blonde slipped, first on accident and then purposefully falling into her arms, LeRim swung Kakura around.
"Oh? I know I'm good, but I didn't realize I'm that good." she said, "And here I was thinking you just wanted to make use of my other skills."
She snickered a bit and dipped Kakura down in a very dramatic fashion. The "pirate" was barely paying any attention to the music that was playing. Whether or not her dancing matched up with it was secondary to what matched up with what she wanted to do.
"Lucky for us, then, right?" she said, "Not so lucky for the school...but, hey...Isn't that what makes it fun?"

Anywhere in the auditorium would have been just as fine for Eriko as anywhere else really. Emotions were still ruling over her thoughts and she was comfortable being quiet and following Yuwa's lead. She had no argument with sitting down where the older girl suggested, though honestly she didn't need a rest. Yuwa walking off to get some drinks did give Eriko a chance to collect herself and clear her mind. The redhead wondered why she felt kind of lonely even for the short time that Yuwa was gone. Enough so that she felt anxious and was tempted to get up and go find the girl she'd confessed to rather than waiting. That wouldn't be very fair to Yuwa though since there was every possibility of getting lost in the crowd of girls. Then Yuwa would come back to find Eriko missing and maybe think the redhead had left her. So Eriko just sat and waited, still ever uncertain about her newly emotional state but unable to do much about it. This was their big debut though. First time doing something after confessing, which was like signing a new contract with a team. Hers was an emotional contract with an older woman that had no expiration. Everyone at the ball was the crowd in their game of life, kind of, waiting to cheer them on or boo or whatever. Using baseball helped her get back into a more typical frame of mind just as Yuwa arrived. That cup certainly helped too, though Eriko's main reaction was to just nod in silent approval. She was blushing herself when the older girl showed her some tenderness while hugging her. Too much eomtion in her mind.. she had to keep herself focused! So she took a big, long drink of her milkshake. Her cheeks puckered as she sucked up as much as would fit in her mouth, swallowing all at once. Then she twitched as she felt the inevitable backlash of too much frozen treat at once. Brain freeze took effect and suddenly she had an idea of how to break her nervous tension. Eriko collapsed back into Yuwa's embrace and stared up at the older girl with her deadpan expression. "Too much.. frozen... drink.. Eriko's not going to make it, Lily-oneesama. Tell the Tuesday Timberwolf I said.. hello," she said emotionlessly, feigning a fatal condition thanks to her brain freeze. The two had been through so much it was like reading minds, she knew that her beloved Eriko-chan was under distress from their kiss earlier today. No....It was more like everything leading up to that special moment. The two of them knew what they felt deep in their hearts and didn't know how to express it. That's why they sometimes kept each other at a distance. Now, that distance's gone. And a powerful familiarity had taken its place. Yuwa Knew. It was as nervewrecking to her as it was to Eriko-chan. Yuwa pondered over whether or not she truly was the right one for her beloved Eriko-chan. If she could make her happy or not. She didn't want to lose this familiarity, this happiness that had grown between them. That fear and uncertainty as well as uncharted territory made it really hard for either one of them to make a move. You couldn't expect them to. But then when Eriko acted up about the brain freeze, she smiled. This is what they'd always do to release the tension. They'd have fun, they'd joke around and they'd smile. And those fun, laughing times always pierced through the darkness in Yuwa's heart and shone brightly. The bright light known as Eriko Hayakawa. Yuwa was determined. No matter what happened, she'd shine a light in Eriko-chan's heart too. A light that shone up just as brightly. So she kneeled down next to Eriko-chan, took a deep breathe and began to act. If all went well, she could very well be the next Chikaru. The famous Le Rim senpai who wowed everyone with her acting skills. "Eriko-chan!!!!" Yuwa screamed passionately, dropping her head back as her eyes looked upward. After drawing in the crowd, she smiled to herself in her head. 'Yes! It's going well!'. "Eriko-chan. Wake up! You promised, right? That we'd kiss, live together and do special things together right?" Yuwa started crying, or well, she tried to cry. Her emotions got caught up enough in her acting that she let out a few tears as the slim and athletic body of her sexy GF was wraped in her arms. "Eriko is Yuwa's wife, isn't that right? I won't let you go!" Yuwa then leaned in and kissed Eriko on the lips. Feeling those tender, sweet lips made Yuwa feel relieved, happy and so lucky to be Eriko's GF. She hoped something really didn't happen. That this was just another playful event between the two of them.

Though Cecilia was completely unsure of what to do once she got over to the silver haired girl, the fact that Kanako-oneesama wanted her to go speak with her was enough to get her to try. She wished Rin had stayed there just a little longer so that she could have introduced her to her friends, but now that Rin had gone off, she had to wing it. And winging it was NOT one of Cecilia's specialties.
She was, however, saved the trouble when the oddly dressed girl came up to where she was still standing and started speaking with her. Cecilia hadn't been expecting that at all, much less for the girl, or Ubu, as she gave her name, to ask to be her friend. "Ano… I don't see why not." she responded shyly, hoping she was doing alright, and resisted the urge to glance back over to Kanako. She kept her eyes down a little out of habit, not wanting to freak anyone out. "I'm Cecilia." She gave a small, shy smile to the girl, only for it to shift to a much more nervous expression when Ubu asked her to dance. Now she spared a quick glance over to Kanako, and knew the older girl would want her to do it, and so nervously took the silver haired girl's hand. "S-sounds like a plan, then." Her nervousness was apparent, but she tried not to let it get to her as they walked out onto the dance floor. "Ano, I don't really know how to dance all that well…" she admitted, looking ashamed, but hoping that it wouldn't matter too much.

Arms back in position Rin tried to pay closer attention. The music, her partner, the movements. Okay, left, right, left, right. The rhythm flowed in to her, and she focused on moving with Margeaux like she said. Things slowed down a little all around them. It was relaxing. She slowed her breathing and let go for a moment. Dancing like this was actually really easy, though, more like swaying than dancing.
"I think I'm getting it!" She said excitedly, snapping out of her concentration. She smiled happily up at her partner. Her excitement bubbled and then was replaced by a rush of contentment. She felt like things were going to be okay here, not just now, but something about Astraea Hill, her friends, everything, it was going to make her life better.
Worries about having to be someone she wasn't were so far away now, this was like another world. She didn't have to worry anymore. Her blue eyes sparkled in the changing lights of the ball as she studied the fabric over Margeaux's eye, then turned her attention to the clear blue of her remaining eye. In that friendly gaze, she felt freedom from her past. Nothing could touch her here. The brought on a bit more emotion than Rin expected, her gentle smile soon sparkled with tears.
She tried to stop it by looking down, as if st her feet and muffled a sob with a strange deep breath. Margeaux would certainly notice, but this was a good thing, she was relieved. Her burdens were so far away. Someday, even when she was older, it wouldn't matter what happened, as long as her friends were there too.

The laugh made Anzu hesitate for a moment; had June laughed because she was amused or because Anzu was so nervous? Could she see how awkward she felt? Of course, it wasn’t really Junes fault; if anything, the purple haired teen felt more comfortable with her then she had with anyone in a long time; maybe it was just because June had taken the time to actually talk to her, or because she had actually gotten to know, even just a little. But she was surprised when June said she was glad to see her. Really? When was the last time someone had said that to her? She knew that there probably wasn’t anything hidden in there; no emotional message or anything like that, and to be honest she wouldn’t have known how to respond if there had been one. But she felt a tiny bit of heat spreading up her cheeks, and her tongue seemed to stop working. ”Uh… W-Well…”She cleared her throat, forcing her expression into one of care-free indifference, as though she heard that compliment all the time. ”Thanks, June- san, I was pretty glad to see you too.” And she meant it. “I was actually about to leave, when I saw you.”She looked around the room, wondering what to say or do. Then she turned back, not daring to suggest anything herself. After all, knowing her, she would just suggest something ridiculous. But she smiled anyway. Maybe June would suggest something, or maybe an opportunity would present itself to them.

Post by Margeaux Devereaux on Mar 26, 2014 20:40:53 GMT -5
There was a moment in the dance that time seemed to slow to a crawl. Maybe it was something to do with the fact that there motion was a simple swaying back and forth. Or maybe it was her excitement that Rin was catching on and seemed to be enjoying herself at the same time. Whatever the reason, Margeaux found herself lost in that moment and she wasn't all that concerned about finding her way back.
She felt herself relax, the lines of the song bouncing up and down, somewhere in the background. Moving in time to the music, she looked down and met the blue gaze that had found it's way to her solitary orb. Light could reflect in such a strange and captivating way. She could even see the tears begin to well up in the pinkette's eyes.
Even in this situation, she didn't react as she normally would. It was easy for her to tell, that it was not out of sorrow. Margeaux gave a light squeeze of a hug around her dancing partner. She felt very lucky to have met the Miator girl.
Left, right, left, right...the two continued to dance as the song continued to play. Margeaux smiled and blinked away a peculiar wetness that welled up in her visible eye. Somewhere she was aware that this had turned into something more than just a fun exercise to help her friend learn something new. She wasn't quite sure what it was, but it was certainly something good.
