It would really be kind of helpful for Ubu to pay attention to what drinks she was grabbing for people to drink. Just because something was purple didn't mean that it would be consumable. Though you had to wonder what kind of person would bring purple liquids to the Winter Ball which you couldn't safely drink. Besides Margeaux and she had both sipped it and found it not too bad at all. The American liking the random drink she'd grabbed made Ubu very happy for some reason. Probably in part because the way that accent sounded when the redhead was happy was even more cool than usual.
Unhindered by the pleasant nature of that, she continued, "There are lots of things that could potentially cause a curse like this. Indications are that it's been active consistently only for the past maybe three or four years. Past couples also had problems with a curse or something but it's more active now.. almost like it's.. waking up or something. But that means it'll be easier to track down! There could be some kind of religious artifact somewhere that could cause it too. Those are supposed to be pretty powerful.. maybe too powerful for this, but this could be the side effect of something really incredible and dangerous."
Just as Rin arrived, but before Ubu noticed her, the silvernette raised her cup in the air and exclaimed, "Actually that makes it pretty exciting!"
Her usual perky nature continued as Rin greeted Margeaux. Two of her favorite people in the world, all together once again for a special event! This was becoming a tradition of theirs to meet up at big campus events. Ubu was as thrilled with that idea as she was to hug Rin again. Admittedly hugging Rin was a good excuse to feel her hair again, which continued to fascinate Ubu. A pretty color and always so nice to the touch. Margeaux also had things about her that fascinated Ubu, like seeing sounds and having a kitty hat. When she was in the company of these two girls she felt even more buoyantly energetic than usual.
"Nice to see you again so soon Rinko-chan! How was your dance with Aki-chan?" she asked, kind of curious about that before adding, "You should try the purple stuff, it's surprisingly good."

Cecilia shivered as she made her way toward the ball. She knew she was running a little late, but she'd been so nervous about it that she'd spent nearly half an hour just wondering if she could actually bring herself to go. Of course, the thought of letting down Kanako-sama, who'd been so nice to her and done nothing but help her was more than enough motivation to get her rushing down to the auditorium. She wasn't particularly dressed up, just a nice skirt and a long sleeved blouse, but that was it.
She shivered again- it was cold outside- and adjusted her glasses slightly as she came in sight of her destination and quickly realized that the simply dressed girl in standing outside and singing was Kanako-sama. "Good evening, Kanako-sama" she said quietly as she approached the older girl. "I'm sorry I'm late." she added on quickly.

"Dancing with Aki was nice, though I think she might be sick, she left rather suddenly." She considered thoughtfully. The purple stuff? She of course trusted ehr friends enough to sample a cup. "This really is good!" She answered.
"About the curse. I think it all started from one etoile a few years ago. Sakura, Chiyo. She started telling everyone about it." She she spoke, she recalled reading the book titled, Legacy of the Etoiles. Chiyo-sama believed that because Minigawa-sama's partner died while wearing the red pendant, that every uke etoile to wear it after that would die. She feared for ehr life, but didn't die that year. Instead, she and her pertner nearly broke up. And were really unhappy until they were no longer etoile, then they got back together. In the next etoile pair, Kitsuki-sama, the next uke etoile was actually never loved by her partner at all and by the time she was no longer etoile, her partner left her for a sensei. Last year, Chokone-sama had to move away after her year as etoile. So...one could assume that the curse began when that girl Chibiru-sama died while wearing the necklace."
Her long list of information poured from her as if she were reading the book itself. Suddenly she blushed, it was embarrassing that she knew so much about the etoiles. It would give the false impression that she held the position in high regard. Honestly it was something she dreaded. But even so, it was something see knew about and researched.
After all that, it seemed the wrong time to follow up with Ubu about the dance.

Margeaux had to admit she was impressed with Rin's level of knowledge on the subject. It was clearly something she had some passion about. And the source of the curse was, perhaps, something a lot closer than she had originally considered. The redhead pondered the different possibilities as the two Miator girls greeted each other for the second time that night.
The mysterious purple beverage seemed to be a hit. Out of the three who had sampled it, none had any complaints. But, rating drinks was far less interesting than this Etoile Curse. Margeaux had to know more about it. More importantly how to break it. If that could be broken, then wouldn't a certain family's curse also be able to be broken? Not that she listened to such rumors about said family. Still, it was an interesting thought to pursue.
"So, it only goes back to that far." she asked, curious to learn more, "I thought it might have been older. What do they make those pendants out of? Maybe that's someplace we could start, right?"
There was a nervous excitement to her voice. These topics usually unnerved her to some extent, but a certain curiosity had also worked it's way into her mind. She was tempted to inquire about the elder Minigawa, but that was potentially a sore subject. And on a night like tonight, she didn't want dig into old wounds. So, she would keep her line of questioning limited to the broader facts of the case. After all, both of her friends seemed to be interested in it.

Naoko reentered the auditorium, with a new heaviness to her coin purse. Not a literal coin purse, actually. it was the wallet she had kept in her coat's pocket. But, coin purse fit the pirate theme she had opted for, tonight. Regardless, the point of the matter was she had closed a rather profitable deal with some upperclassman from St. Spica. Someone who intended to enjoy the night a bit more than was probably intended.
The dance floor was packed, but it seemed like she had arrived just after a song had ended. With a new one around the corner, Naoko started to look for a few single girls for the next number. That purple haired girl was already talking to a blonde holding a stuffed animal. And people called her weird. While a girl with black hair sat and shuffled some playing cards.
Poker? At the Ball? Naoko doubted that. The nuns certainly wouldn't approve of it. Which she was now starting to think might be a fun thing to do. Well, there wasn't time for that. There were a few other girls, here and there. The esteemed Etoile couple, naturally. Naoko resisted the great temptation that existed to cut in and get some time with one of those two. It would make for quite the scandal.
The other familiar face was that of a redhead she had met out in the woods, once. What was her name? It started with a J, didn't it? Well, she would just have to make up an endearing nickname and act like she remembered. She was about to move in, when she spotted a familiar blonde wearing a very non-traditional outfit. Naoko redirected her path and closed the gap, pretty quickly.
"Well, well someone's looking to turn a few heads." she smirked. "And not doing a bod job of it, either."
She glanced at a couple of girls who turned a curious gaze their way, before they noticed Naoko and quickly returned to whatever was originally occupying their interest.

Junko thought Hiroko was adorable; she never understood why girls like her (and even her own sister) were never able to see their own beauty. Then again, the tiny white- haired pixie was able to see good in just about anything, and so it came easier to her then it did to others. "Huh? Of course!" The Spican girl giggled at Hirokos question. "And I dunno what you're talking about, your glasses are adorable!" As though to accentuate her point, Junko reached forward and patted Hiroko on the head, a huge grin decorating her features. It wasn't in her nature to allow others to feel down; Junko enjoyed cheering people up, and even though she tended to get uncomfortable when really serious topics were brought up, she still did all she could to make them happy. This girl was no acception; she would do all she could to show her how awesome she was! The names that Hiroko mentioned sparked Junkos interest, sending a jolt of recognition through her. "I know them!" She said excitedly. "Sara- chan is in the choir with me, and Coyote- chan was a big help when I got hurt last year."Her eyes widened when Hiroko protested going to see the Etoile couple right away. "Aw, cmon Hiroko- chan! They have all night to dance, and I know they would wanna meet you!" She held out her hand, urging the blue haired girl to follow her. "Whaddaya say?"

Well, at least the girl didn't seem like she was going to make fun of her. Her golden- colored eyes sparkled a bit as the purple- haired girl spoke kindly to her, even smiled at her. She didn't give her any weird looks or scoff at her. It was entirely possible that she just didn't recognize or know about Okami, but she wasn't about to question it too much; after all, she kind of savored any kindness paid to her, as it was something of a rare occurance. The little girl looked down at her bow- covered dress, then looked back up with a smile. "Oh, thank you!"She gently picked up a bit of the skirt, then let it go. "Okami- chans little sister said she should wear blue but..." She shrugged, still smiling, "But Okami- chan just loves bows!"The blonde shied away a bit as Coyote moved to shake her hand: it was somewhat hard for her to interpret social cues, and anyone moving to touch her instinctively made her nervous. But after a second her brain put two and two together and realized what she was trying to do. She (somewhat hesitantly) grasped the hand extended to her. "Its... Really nice to meet Coyote- chan."

The girl's reaction was strange. Well, everything about her seemed a little strange. From the way she talked to her reaction to Coyote's outstretched hand. She wasn't sure the exact cause, but it seemed to hint to some other underlying issue. At least she seemed to be a friendly sort of person.
"Nice to meet you, too, Okami." the Canadian gave a soft shake, taking care not to startle the blonde any more than she already had. She didn't appear to be here with anyone in particular. And seeing as how Coyote was likewise attending the ball by herself, she figured it wouldn't hurt to keep the odd girl company.
"The bows are a nice touch." she concurred with the assessment, as the music to the last song came to an end. A few of their fellow students mingled about the dance floor, while others wandered away for other entertainment. Coyote smiled and stood up from her chair.
"How about a dance?" she asked, "You, me and Ryuu. Can't go to a Ball and not dance, after all!"

The moment she spotted the pale girl Kanako stepped forward with a warm smile and open arms for her. For a little while she had been afraid that Cecilia might be too shy or afraid to come. Now that Cecilia had arrived the member of the Nun Club was incredibly happy. This was an important chance for the new girl to meet other students her age and perhaps forge some friendships. Of course Kanako would be at her side whenever she needed help but this was a chance for her to begin to bloom. When the girl apologized for her lateness Kanako reached over and gave her a gentle pat on the head. This had become a sign of affection between Kanako and Cecilia, something she'd done with her younger sisters at home.
"You're not late, Cecilia-chan, you're perfectly on time. Are you cold? We should get inside so that we can warm up, shouldn't we?" she asked, putting an arm around the girl's shoulders and walking inside with her, "I'm really happy that you decided to come tonight. This is a big celebration on Astraea Hill, and you can meet lots of people from each of the Three Schools. And I promise I'll he right here with you if you need anything.. also.."
She had almost forgotten, but thankfully remembered to give the albino her gift. Kanako gently pressed it into Cecilia's hand and smiled jovially, "Merry Christmas, Cece-chan."

Meeting up with her friends always proved to be very beneficial to Ubu's investigations into mysteries of Astraea. Rin and Margeaux never ceased to be not only great company but also very useful in her endeavors. As it turned out Rin had heard quite a bit more about the curse than Ubu had been aware of. This meant that the silvernette was incredibly attentive as her pink haired friend explained what she had heard. The curses were only a few years old, which meant that the Etoiles themselves weren't the catalyst for the curse. Not likely. Maybe it was the long history of the schools but Ubu was becoming ever more convinced that whatever caused the curses must be old and powerful. What Rin said didn't fit into that directly, so she had to extrapolate a theory out of it.
"Don't worry, ladies, I think I've got an idea of what might be causing the Curse. All we have to do now is find its resting place, dig it up and.. neutralize it I guess," she announced to her two best friends before grinning and tipping her fedora back on her head a bit, "Nothing we can't handle together, right? It sounds like a grand adventure awaits us! Now we just need to find somewhere that the cause of the curse might be stored or buried in. Something just below our feet."
Then she finished her purple drink and asked, "So what's next? The investigation can continue later, but this is a party right? We should have fun and not worry too much about curses!"

A look of horror washed over Rin's features...dig up it's source? As in...dig up the body of Chibiru Kanoa and do...something to her remains? She was about to voice her concerns when Ubu said to worry about it later. Which she certainly would. She hoped they would not be digging up the girls body. Besides, Six years before Chibiru had died, Shizuma's partner, also named Chiyo had died wearing the same necklace. She believe both dead girls were buried on campus. Which only made things all the more spooky. She'd have to mention this at some point, especially if Ubu was planning on exhuming a body, it should at least be the right one...right?-Yuck, what a terrible thought.
"Hai!" she said then, happy for the distraction from her gruesome reasoning. "Ne, who wants to dance?" Unlike the Halloween party, there wasn't really a lively tune, it was very much a ball, and so the music suited the occasion. She sat her purple drink on a nearby table, certain it would not be disturbed.
The following morning would be even better than anything that would occur tonight, it was Christmas, and there was nothing better than spending Christmas with her best friends. She couldn't wait to give them their gifts. But her thoughts for now came back to the dance floor.

Dancing was always fun. Back at the Halloween party, the trio had themselves quite the time. Tonight would be slightly different. While she had no doubt that this evening would be just as fun, it didn't leave the opportunity to go dancing with both of her friends. They might even need to try and dance somewhat correctly, too. Margeaux had no qualms about this, though. They could all take turns and have quite the night for themselves!
What was furthest from her mind, though, was the topic of exhuming dead bodies. She didn't think it would come to that. Nor did that possibility enter her head. Her mind was still down in the catacombs, searching for whatever secret relics were tucked away and hidden from human eyes for hundreds of years. Even if this curse was only a recent occurrence.
But, in the words of their silver-haired companion, "The investigation can continue later..." The important thing right now was deciding on the order.
"I do!" she answered before she thought. The hint of redness that grew on her cheeks matched the pace of realization of her blunder, "Uhh...unless you guys were already planning on getting the next dance. I don't want to interrupt whatever you got set up...so, I'll take the next one!"

The thought that someone actually really enjoyed looking out for her was still a fairly foreign one to Cecilia. So the fact that Kanako had gone so out of her way to help her, even waiting out in the cold for her seemed strange. Her parents would never have done that. She nodded when the older girl suggested going inside, bitting her lip as she wondered if she should tell Kanako that she needn't have waited out in the cold for her.
In the end she didn't work up the courage to speak, as the older girl was being so nice, and she didn't stop talking as she guided Cecilia into the fairly packed auditorium. Of course, what surprised her most was when the older student gave her a present. That was definitely unexpected. "A-Ano… F-for me?" she asked in surprise, eyes wide. "I'm so sorry, Kanako-oneesama! I don't have anything for you, please forgive me." The honorific slipped off her tongue without her even realizing that she'd attached it to the girl's name. It was only once she apologized to her 'oneesama' as she now realized she called her, which caused her to blush, did she look down at and open the small gift in her hands.
It was only a simple bronze hair clip with some celtic knot work, but to Cecilia, it was something precious, a gift from a girl who'd she'd only met a few weeks ago, and yet was willing do do something like this for her. "Thank you so much, Kanako-oneesama," she said, on the verge of tears, "I love it. I'm so sorry I didn't get anything for you." she sniffed, before glancing around the auditorium. She felt very self conscious, as she and Kanako were very plainly dressed compared to all the other girls around them. But, there wasn't much she could do about that now.

No matter what Kagami had given her as a gift Maiko was sure that she'd love it. As she had mused before the best gift her girlfriend had ever given her had been received one year before at this same event. The gift of her heart, of hope that Maiko wouldn't forever be relegated to being someone's big sister. A gift of a warm, intimate dance where they were finally able to open up about their feelings. Anything that Kagami gave her would be filled with the whitenette's affection and trust. Maiko was as excited to open the presents she had just been given as she was to just be at the side of her beloved.
Despite childlike anticipation of opening a gift Maiko would go about it slowly and gracefully. Too much enthusiasm might damage what was inside the gift if it were made of certain types of materials. She also had the distraction from gifts in the form of her heart's joy standing up on her tip toes and giving her a kiss. It injected her passionate love into Maiko, strengthening the taller girl even further as the warmth flowed to every corner of her being. Then she smiled, realizing she should return the gesture. No words were spoken as she leaned down and gently kissed Kagami on the cheek, radiating the same love in return. Then, blushing she pulled back and started to open her gift. When she saw what was contained within, her thin ladylike fingers clutched the book of music as if it were the most precious treasure in the world.
"Love songs.. I don't have any sheet music like that.. thank you! And I'll be sure to play this for you later," she smiled and then opened the sketchbook. Her jaw dropped as she saw the drawing, "This is wonderful! It's beautiful, just like its artist.."
Then she blushed and grinned, "Thank you so much! I love them.. would you like to dance after we open our presents?"

Hiroko almost flinched when the whitenette gave her a pat on the head, but refrained from doing so because that might upset her. This girl was enthusiastic about helping her finally meet the girl she had become convinced was her sister. Someone like that might be off put by her refusing their friendly greetings. Honestly it didn't feel so bad since she was being praised (she thought) by the older girl. That didn't happen very often. Granted Junko was likely just trying to make her feel better by acting like this was worth her time. So the sooner she got herself out of Junko's hair the better it would be for the girl. On the other hand the Etoile was probably too busy as well since she was here wit her love. Junko on the other hand had been waiting for someone, she thought, so she should be allowed to get back to waiting for her.
"You.. you know them? Well.. um.. that's.. that's good.. I-I-I'm really amazed they wanted to help me, even though I was just sitting in the café.. pe-people are actually really nice here," she spoke as she thought about the other girls who had been helping to find her sister. Then she held her hands up defensively as the suggestion was made that she go actually talk to Maiko. Right now couldn't be the best time! They were probably going to be dancing or something, and that meant that her arrival would split those girls apart. What a terrible thought!
"But.. but.. she's the E-Etoile.. I don't think it'd be fair to just walk.. walk up and distract her.. h-her girlfriend's more important," Hiroko protested, starting to nervously adjust her glasses, "I don't need to impose myself on such a h.. happy couple. Sh-sh-she might not even be my sister after all.."
Finding something in Junko's words to change the conversation to, she asked, "Wait.. you.. you got hurt? Wh-what happened?"
