Shun was more than pleased to entertain Maiko for the evening. But, entertaining both Maiko AND Kagami? She failed to see how this evening could get any better.
Well...perhaps she shouldn't be all that hasty, just yet. As the three sat down and got themselves comfortable, Shun glanced over towards Maiko. The girl had found some piece of news from within her purse that was not all that pleasing. At the very least, far less pleasing than the initial message that first alerted Shun to the taller girl.
There would an appropriate time and place to question this behavior, but tonight would not be it. The questioning, this time, was pointed towards herself, as Kagami inquired her campus of origin.
"The wonderful grounds of St. LeRim." she replied, before taking a sip of her own drink and smiled, "And where might you be calling home, these days, if I may return the question."

THE WINTER WONDERLAND BALL || CHOKONE MANATSU [/b] "This is my winter song to you. The storm is coming soon, it rolls in from the sea. My love a beacon in the night, my words will be your light, to carry you to me..."Note to self: running through the snow in a dress is really difficult! Gosh Cho this wouldn't have happened if you didn't get lost in that book. And now you're running late! The scolding words echoed inside the little Lulim students brain as she sped through the snow as fast as her tiny legs could carry her, tripping on the folds of her dress with every few steps. Thankfully falling into the snow, aside from the cold, didn't much matter since it didn't show up against the white fabric she had adorned herself in for this evening's festivities. Why was she running? Well because the ball had started! Many students were already packing into the auditorium, but she wasn't there yet. Perhaps she was being a little too hard on herself, maybe. She felt a crushing guilt in her chest, since she knew that a lot of students might be expecting her to make an appearance with Shizuka as the reigning Etoile couple... but truthfully she had almost forgotten that the ball was tonight. She'd gone home to the Manatsu Manor as usual since living off campus, and had settled down in her tower-esque room with a sweet cup of tea and one of her favourite fairytales: The Snow Queen. Ironically the title alone should have jogged her memory, but she'd lost herself and only remembered when Ophelia had knocked on her door to check if she needed help getting into her ball outfit. Thus a couple of hours later, all dressed up in white velvet with lace petticoats and fur trim along the hems, Chokone finally slipped into the Ball. She brushed a few bits of snow off of the bottom of her dress nervously, hoping that no one had noticed her extremely late appearance. She felt a tiny bit overdressed, but she adored the outfit too much to care about that. The soft velvet that ran along the bodice had a slight silver sparkle too it, and she couldn't stop touching the plush fur on the sleeves since it was so fluffy and soothing. She did this now as she glanced around the room, fingering the fabric nervously and trying to swallow the butterflies that grew in her stomach. Little Chokone managed to hold back the nerves long enough that she finally took in the room, and could at last admire all her hard work. She'd helped to brainstorm ideas for how the room should be decorated, and she was greatly pleased. The entire auditorium glowed a transcendent blue, illuminating the various ice sculptures that stood proudly around the place, catching the gleam of the twinkling fairylights that hung down from the roof to look like icicles, glittering snowflakes scattered in various, of many shapes and sizes. It was wonderful, far better than she could have possibly hoped it would be! This was the first real time she'd been to the ball, having been too sick in previous years, and she worried about her health this evening. In hindsight, running through the snow would not benefit her weak immune system, and hoped she could get through the evening before she got a fever, or something. She remembered having slipped on the ice last winter, although the outcome of that had been positive, since the accident had brought Shizuka back to her... and speaking of her dearest Oneesama... where was she? Frowning, Cho's chocolate gaze scanned the crowd again, but it was hard to see over people when she was a lot shorter than most of them. Hopefully Shizuka would come find her...[/center]

"I've been coming here since I was a first year," Ariana responded. "It's practically like my second home now. Although, I suppose I should stop thinking like that since I'm graduating after next year," she mused.
"So, Kotomi-san," the redhead started, trying to make conversation. "Are you in any clubs? I'm in sewing club, myself. That and the host club are what I pass my time with." She tilted her head, a coy smile on her face. "Maybe you should drop by the rose garden sometime. It would be a pleasure to serve you." She noticed it had gotten slightly chillier outside, and glanced towards the patio doors to see if they were open before returning her attention to Kotomi.

Kotomi nodded when Arianna asked if she was part of any clubs. "Yes. I am a member of the Archery Team and the Saintly Chorus. The Saintly Chorus at Spica and the Brass Band at Miator were what determined I would go one of the two schools. I love music very much I play the flute and the piano and love singing. I picked Spica though because I knew if I picked Miator and joined the brass band it would remind me too much of my best friend..."
When the other redhead mentioned the sewing club she smiled. "That's cool that you can sew. My mom is amazing at it, but I can't sew to save my life," she said jokingly laughing a little.
She blushed a bit when Arianna mentioned the host club, "Oh t-that'd be nice Arianna-san," she stuttered. "Maybe I will come by sometime..."

Gods it had been hard to decide what exactly to do for the ball. No matter which way she went, the theme was a dream come true, and they had spent a lot of time trying to get everything in order, organising the ball's logistics and decorations. It had been stressful but also fun in a sense, and she was starting to come to terms with bearing a greater responsibility, though it still got her down sometimes when she realised how little time she got to spend with her little butterfly. The same little butterfly she hoped to sweep off her feet and astound tonight. It would be their first and last winter ball together, and Shizuka was going all out.
In the end, she'd gone for a traditional style, though it leant more towards an androgynous look, which when beside Chokone, would make her more of a winter prince, letting her lovely little butterfly steal the show as the winter Etoile princess. A plain white robed-undershirt, covered by an ice-blue kimono, decorated with white-gold spirals and borders. A white and silver overshirt slipped beneath the two, all tied together with a purple, blue and white-gold sash. After having spent a large portion of the time trying to make sure it all sat properly (given that it was not exactly meant for a female wearer), Shizuka moved onto her hair, which she was tying back into a long ponytail, a common practice for males with long hair, among the more modern applications. Thankfully, her father had helped her with getting everything all in order previously, so that tonight she could move swiftly through it all.
A ceremonial katana, or so it looked (given that nobody wanted a repeat of an earlier disaster with such a weapon) fitted perfectly into the side of sash, and a long white shawl hung over the sleeves of the kimono to complete the look. With one last check of her outfit, the elder Lulim girl had to admit, she certainly didn't look so feminine tonight. Quickly grabbing a special item she had prepared for tonight, she set off for the dressed up auditorium, enjoying the chill in the air during her brisk walk over there. Doubtful that Chokone would recognise her in such a different guise, the purple-haired student ardently sought out her partner, ready to kneel before her and take her hand once she had found her.
"Would my darling princess care to dance?"

Snowflakes daintily ascended from the darkened skies, landing gently on tufts of black and blonde hair. Emiko's heart was racing as she tried her best to quicken her pace. 'Oh, why did I spend so much time on my hair and makeup? I can't believe I'm running so late!' The distressed Lulim thought, trying hard not to trip over her dress. A brisk breeze flew by, sending shivers down her spine. Part of her wished she hadn't opted out of wearing a jacket. After a few minutes of walking, the gentle sound of the winter wind was soon drowned out by muffled music. The little lamb breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally arrived. As she stepped into the auditorium, she was greeted by a glorious sight. Everything was decorated so elegantly. The glistening white details, the sparkling snowflakes... It was truly a winter wonderland. Unsure of what to do, Emiko slowly made her way to one of the walls. She leaned against it as she quietly searched the crowd, hoping to see a familiar face. Or rather, hoping to see the face of a certain blonde prince. She couldn't help feeling a bit nervous. This was the first time she'd ever been to a dance like this at all, let alone with a date. And being alone in such a large crowd only added to her already jittery nerves. 'I really hope Yuudai-kun gets here soon...'

People like us we've gotta stick together Keep your head up, nothing lasts foreverKagami, too, noticed Maikos uncomfort at whatever it was she had noticed within her bag, and she of course saw the smile afterwards. Immediately Kagami began worrying; was she unhappy because of the ball? Maybe she wasn't having fun. She bit her lip nervously but neglected to say anything; whatever it was troubling her friend, she didn't want to make it worse by calling attention to it. So instead she focused on Shuns words. She smiled; somehow, Lulim seemed to fit her perfectly, with her laid back personality. When Shun turned her question back to her, Kagami again blushed, although noticeably less violently then before. "I... I go to S-Spica." She said. "It was originally f-for the riding, but my... My parents wouldn't let me take Lei." Kagamis eyes fell as she remembered that dark time in her life, the summer when she had been separated from her dear friend. "M-my sister brought her, and her horse, when she came here." Kagami looked over at Maiko, realizing she had never asked about her school and desperately wanting her to enjoy herself tonight. ""M-Maiko- Chan, what school... D-do you go to?" Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom Notes- so sorry this took me so long.

Maiko knew it was improper for her to let her own troubles make others' experience at the ball unhappy. She was upset about her mother's pushiness in trying to set up an arranged date with a suitor, true. That wasn't actually happening yet. What had a friend told her once? Something about getting past your fear for the sake of love. Probably horribly paraphrasing it, but it helped.
So like many personal things Maiko pushed this down into the depths of her being for now. Neither of the wonderful girls at her table would want to be troubled by her family issues. Tonight was supposed to be fun, enchanting almost like a fairy tale! A strange fairy tale, since it included a magician and a princess with her, but it still fit. Maiko smiled pleasantly again just as Kagami turned the conversation back to her.
"Oh, how could I have forgotten to tell you that, Kagami-chan? I go to St. Miator when I'm not attending a ball with beautiful princesses and amazing magicians," she responded, tone mostly serious, "So that gives us a full set!"
She then added, "Thank you both for being with me tonight. It was.. getting a little lonely by myself."
The sad smile returned for a brief moment, but it was banished when she thought of the girls she was sitting with. Friends. She wasn't alone when she had people close to her like these two. Her deep desire to find something deeper was ever-present in her imagination. Being in the company of two such girls definitely helped fuel that imagination. At that, she smiled happily. There was a hope for it.

Shun was curious to learn about Maiko's school, as well. As it turned, out she was Miator. Or, "A full set", as the taller girl had accurately described it. She had put on a good act, brushing aside whatever worries that were the results of whatever information had been stored away in her purse. An act that eventually gave way to a more genuinely happy expression.
Kagami's story was likewise troubling, but at the very least she had a reliable sister who had managed to bring her horse to the school. Shun held a small smile on her face as she looked over towards Maiko.
"Ah, I couldn't bear to think of an elegant young lady, such as yourself, going through the night, lonely." she said, "I'm more than happy to keep both of you company for this fine evening."

OOC: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf6LD2B_kDQVery few things excited Homura enough to have her feeling giddy, but one of them was the various balls that Astarea Hill put on. At first, she had been rather reluctant to go to them, but at the urging of her classmates - "you've got to get out of that dorm room once in a while" - she had conceded to their wisdom, and shown up. Ever since then, she had made a point of attending each and every one of the events that the school hosted, balls or not. This habit only increased in her second year as she'd begun to come out of her shell, making it her duty to show up for everything as part of her role in the Student Council. Of course, this wasn't a mandatory thing, but in her mind, it scored her some extra points. However, the balls were different. A moment for her to forget her stresses and worries in the fluidity of movement and the music, so she had come to justify it as therapeutic. Her heels tapped the floor as she stepped into the ballroom, in truth she'd been here already, spending her time outside to admire the snow. She only went in when she came close to shivering, her lips turning blue despite her near-white lipstick. She was particularly proud of this year's dress, though she usually received compliments anyway. She was adorned with a knee-length medium-blue dress, sleeveless though the neckline was made of shaped metal which sat against her neckbone elegantly. The top, from the metal to the top of her ribcage was covered in small beads the same color as her dress, though they glinted when they reflected the light. At her waist a white sash was tied, and extending down from that, past the bottom of her dress and to her ankles was a layer of very pale blue lace. She had meticulously spent the day perfecting her hair, and she smiled to herself as she entered the ballroom. Her eyes widened in amazement at the appearance inside, though. If she'd thought the outside, decorated in streamers and fairy lights had been impressive, it was nothing compared to the inside, and the party-planning committee had outdone themselves this year. A fellow Spica student council member waved to her as she made her way to the refreshment table, receiving a wave in return before Homura turned her attention to one of the lovely ice sculptures - no doubt made by Lulim's art club. She leaned forward slightly, gazing at her own reflection in the ice. It was truly a testament that she could do something when she put her mind to it, making herself look like this. She pondered quietly, if she could apply this to the rest of her life perhaps it would have been better for her so far, or at least she could display less of what she considered to be cowardice. She was snapped out of her funk as the song changed, deafening her thoughts and permeating through her. She recognised it, because it was one of her favourites, one she liked to listen to when doing homework. Without a further thought she stepped into the open dance area, feeling some eyes following her, after all it wasn't often that girls went out here without a dance partner and the new ones always stared, those who didn't know her, but all that was forgotten as her hips started to sway and she closed her eyes. The violin brought her peace of mind, at least for the moment, and the beat penetrated her heart. Inspiration flooded her, and she knew then her goal for the next year. Word Count: 596 OOC: First time posting with this character so I took the opportunity to get to know her mindset. :3

Formal events weren't really the sort of thing that Himiko Miyamae tended to frequent. A winter ball had really sounded kind of stuffy and ceremonial when she'd first caught wind of it. Given a choice she would rather just avoid being put in a fancy dress of any kind. And heels? Forget about it! She would much rather keep her balance than have the joy of clicking around a room and having foot aches later. As such she had avoided this kind of event in the past.
However! Tonight she'd been encouraged to go by other girls from the equestrian and martial arts clubs. Socializing was definitely something that Himiko was perfectly happy to do at length. Thanks to a friend who was part of St. Lulim's cosplay/sewing club, she'd managed to get herself a more comfortable formal outfit. One, most importantly to her, with pants.
It was what she imagined a formal dress uniform might look like, with the creative liberty of making it mostly white to fit the ball's theme. A white high-necked almost military looking jacket with matching trousers, which had silver trim down the legs. Over the jacket was a wide golden sash which she'd worn in the past with other outfits; her bronzed badge was pinned to this, just above a Spica patch. In place of the heels other girls wore Himiko had donned well shined black riding boots. Normally they were for her equestrian events, but they worked for this makeshift uniform. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, tied off with a bit of gold ribbon, while leaving side bangs to frame her face. To complete the look she wore a pair of white dress gloves of the type a police officer might wear.
She had the unfortunate luck to enter just after Shizuka Myuzu, resplendent in her own Japanese-style outfit. Himiko had hoped to garner attention herself, but in the face of that she decided to go get something to drink instead. Really she just didn't want to get mixed up with the Etoile thing in any way right now. Better to just get some refreshment and consider her options for further adventure at the ball. Since she was here she might as well have fun with it!
Once she'd gotten herself a glass of the first drink she'd found, Himiko noticed someone slightly familiar on the dance floor. One of the other girls from the student council at Spica was dancing by herself. Doing a bang-up job of it too, if Himiko was any judge. She tapped a booted foot along with the music and grinned as the girl danced. Definitely something Himiko couldn't do herself.
"Homura majQa'!" she exclaimed, not caring if she was speaking in what sounded like gibberish to everyone else.
OOC: Hope you don't mind Himiko admiring her dancing!

Atsuko was surprised when Yuki brought her a cup of water. She had intended to do it herself, but any kind gesture from tne white haired girl meant the world to her.
She accepted it graciously, thanking her newly titled girlfriend for the beverage and sipping on it quietly while Yuki explained her Etoile ambitions.
Smiling gently, Atsuko responded "I don't think it's silly at all. It's sweet." Thinking of their earlier conversation, she giggled. "Especially since you got to be a princess, after all."
Seeing Maiko out of the corner of her eye, she turned and waved, but was unsure if the other girl saw her or not.
Picking up some sort of jam filled cookie, she put her cup down on the table for a moment and broke off a piece. Grasping it lightly between her fingers, she playfully prodded Yuki's mouth with the sweet, encouraging her to eat it.

At the sudden sound of a voice calling her name Homura stopped and wheeled about, her long dress flowing out with the motion before settling back down. She had been startled, but quickly calmed herself by laying a hand over her heart and smiling. She should have recognised the voice at first call, but considering how she was focused specifically on the music rather than anyone else at that moment, she decided to forgive herself in her momentary lapse of protocol. She stepped forward toward Himiko until the pair were within speaking distance without having to yell too loud. She had always had a fondness for the fellow martial artist and student council member's vibrant and outgoing personality, and had quickly come to regard her occasional spouts of gibberish as simply a quirk for her. Himiko had always been a stark contrast to her own personality, and the two had very different ways of going about things, but that had never stopped Homura from developing a fondness for her - which was odd, since Homura usually didn't like the brash types, but she supposed it was because Himiko, that she had seen, didn't really have that same level of arrogance or unfriendliness that usually went with it. "You're looking strapping tonight," she said, smiling in the dim light. "I'm surprised all the girls didn't fall over themselves asking you to dance. Of course, most of them are busy fawning over the Etoile pair. I didn't expect you to come, though. What changed your mind?" The music changed once more to something much more upbeat, bringing Homura to gently tap her foot on the ground. The lights that reflected over the room gave it an air of falling snow, despite that it was actually rather comfortably warm in the ballroom. Word Count: 296

Himiko would have been perfectly content to just stand and watch her fellow Spica council member dance. The girl was kind of quiet by nature, which made Himiko wonder sometimes if she had something to hide. Then again there were plenty of girls who were just shy. Homura wasn't uncomfortable with her zeal for all things, a plus. She'd seen enough of the girl between council activities and martial arts to feel that even if they weren't formally friends, they got along well.
Homura leaving the dance floor brought a surprised smirk to the self-proclaimed warrior's expression. She imagined that if anything would shake someone's focus it would be an exclamation in a fictional alien language known for being guttural. A lot of girls might've been unnerved by its use in the environment of the winter ball. Homura didn't look like she was upset; quite the contrary, she seemed to be happy to have Himiko's company.
"Ha! I'm glad that you approve of my uniform, Homura. I have yet to see any girls demanding my attention tonight, but who knows, it may happen. There are a lot of girls who appreciate a Hlp be'," Himiko beamed at the compliment and gave Homura a friendly pat on the shoulder, "Have to say, you're looking lovely tonight yourself! I was just admiring your dancing, I didn't expect you to actually come over and grace me with your presence."
"Normally I wouldn't come to an event like this, so you had every reason to expect me to be absent. Some of the girls in our martial arts club kept telling me I should make an exception, so here I am. Of course some of them also mentioned something about how I'd make a funny Etoile. Anyhow, better place to show off my friend's handiwork than here!" she answered Homura's question, indicating her clothing with the last comment.
Then she noticed Homura tapping her foot and raised an eyebrow, "You look like you could keep dancing, Homura. Don't let me stop you if that's what you want to do.. though people might be expecting you to have a partner. I say if you want to dance by yourself, let no one stop you!"

Homura tilted her head, considering Himiko's words. She was right, of course, Homura did desire to keep dancing, but the chance at pleasant company was also quite a draw for her. In truth, she had been wanting to get to know the other girl more closely since they'd spent so long as mere acquaintances, and since they got along, she thought it would be a waste to at least not have time to talk casually outside of business with their clubs. "Have to say, you're looking lovely tonight yourself! I was just admiring your dancing, I didn't expect you to actually come over and grace me with your presence. She flinched at the pat on her shoulder, but otherwise showed no other sign of response. It was as though the flinch was simply instinctive - and she would admit to herself she was not used to others touching her, rather than any actual aversion to the action. "Thank you," Homura smiled at Himiko's compliment to her dancing. "I quite enjoy dancing. It's much different from the structured movement of fencing or martial arts. It's... fluid. One's heart beats with the music and the body moves naturally in time with it. They do say music reveals the soul, does it not?" She smiled after finishing her rhetorical question. She didn't expect an answer. Considering Himiko was on the choir, Homura simply assumed that it was true. She remained quiet as Himiko continued to speak, mentioning her friends. They'd convinced her to come, and they didn't even come in a group with her? Homura had been led to believe that when dragging friends outside of their comfort zone, it was simply proper protocol to stay with them in a group so that the person could be more comfortable in familiarity. "I think you would make a wonderful Etoile, funny or otherwise," Homura stated matter-of-factly, with an earnesty in her voice that indicated she spoke what she believed to be the truth. "But as far as I know, you were never interested in that, were you? Well, your friend must be talented anyway, that's a very beautiful outfit you have. It works well on you." At the mention of her foot tapping - damn, she'd noticed? - Homura paused, before speaking once more. "Normally I dance by myself, I think the other girls think I'm a little odd for it. It's not that I want to dance by myself, particularly, it's more that none of my friends really like to come to these events and I'm a bit nervous to ask to join others. I don't mind, though, I enjoy myself regardless. Do you dance, Himiko-san?" Word Count: 439
