And I don't want you and I don't need you Don't bother to resist, or I'll beat you It's not your fault that you're always wrong The weak ones are there to justify the strongA pair of sharp, glistening yellow eyes swept through the room as Alice Shirunoe stepped in, taking in the beautiful white scenary and the girls in their winter- themed dresses. Alice stuck out like a soar thumb. Instead of white or silver or anything winter related, Alice wore a floor- length black gown with white lace on the neckline and wrist length sleeves off the shoulders. Her wrists and mid back had red ribbons, and a black lace choker around her neck. Her hair, which she had taken to wearing up in a ponytail, was left to hang in long, luxurious ringlets that reached down to her hips. Apparently the Frenchwoman had missed the memo about the "winter wonderland" theme of the dance. Alice stepped gracefully into the room, earning a lot of odd looks and whispers, although the majority of what was being said was lost to her. She flashed a confident smile, thrilled at the attention she was receiving; why should she fit in with what the rest of these commoners were wearing? Alice stepped onward on her red high heels, smiling sweetly at anyone who happened to glance her way. She carried herself with such poise and grace that he demanded attention from those around her. She smoothly walked towards the beverages and helped herself to a cup of punch, which she held like a Martinee glass. Alice are fully watched the mouths and body movements of the other girls around her, taking in the conversations and banter. She saw noone she especially wanted to socialize with, but hopefully that would change rather soon. In the hand not holding the glass, Alice held a small box. Inside, sat a graceful bracelet with two white roses, a corsage she had purchased especially for her favorite little Russian girl. Aideen had agreed to meet her here, and Alice had thought it was an amazing opportunity; let the public see next years Etoile pair, (and Alice had no doubt that was exactly what they'd be, although she hasn't officially asked Aideen to be her partner.) That was the plan for tonight; charm Ms. Sudokov with her natural... Assets, then convince her to take on the role of her Etoile partner. Alice knew Aideen would say yes; who wouldn't want to run with her? So for now she sipped her punch, waiting for the girl to show. That was when everything would really be set in motion.

Atsuko felt almost giddy when she saw how happy Yuki was with the gift. She had been nervous the other girl wouldn't like the bracelet, so to see the expression on her face was a big relief.
Her mood increased even more, however, when Yuki kissed her on the cheek. She was so sweet, and yet confident enough to display affection to that degree. Acchan was grateful to have made such a close friend this early in the year. Maybe after this she'll still want to hang out, the blonde thought. I really hope...we become best friends. There was a small, nagging sensation in her mind, like that wasn't quite what she meant and she was looking for the right words. But she pushed it away, focusing instead on the girl in front of her.
Atsuko beamed when Yuki put the bracelet on. "I'm so glad you like it. I saw your necklace and thought it would be a good match."
"I guess you like the snow, right, Yuki-chan?" As she spoke, she lifted up her hand and extended a single finger, watching a snowflake land on it before it melted away. "I think it's nice too," the blonde said. She looked up at Yuki, smiling. "Actually, I think it's beautiful."

"I'm so glad you like it. I saw your necklace and thought it would be a good match."Yuki smiled again, her hand subconsciously reaching up to fiddle with the snowflake pendant around her neck as she looked up at the winter sky. She was honestly rather surprised the other had actually noticed her necklace, but she couldn't help feeling happy that she had. "It's definitely a good match... I can't tell you how much I appreciate this, Acchan." She said softly, gazing into the blonde's eyes for a split second before directing her gaze back to the sky. "I guess you like the snow, right, Yuki-chan?"The white haired girl nodded, still staring blissfully into the clouds. "Yeah... I've always loved snow. Actually, I love winter in general." Her voice held a soft tone laced with a touch of sadness. "When I was a kid, my brother used to call me his 'snow princess'..." She smiled sadly. "Nowadays, though, I'm better known as the ice queen..." The last part, she said in a whisper, hoping the other wouldn't hear. Realizing that her guard was starting to slip, she quickly forced the bright smile back onto her face. "Anyway, it's getting pretty chilly out here. Maybe we should go back inside. I'm sure the dance has started by now." Still smiling, she reached out tentatively, gesturing for Acchan to take her hand.

For just a moment, Atsuko heard a touch of sadness in Yuki's voice. When the girl offered out her hand, she looked at her for a minute, before taking it and pulling her into a tight hug. "Maybe you aren't a snow princess anymore. I'm sure you've changed since you were little, and been through hardships. You've put up a barrier between you and other people - but you can still be a princess. My ice princess." Her voice was low, barely above a whisper. She had her mouth close to Yuki's ear, however, and leaning back, she said "You can tell me anything, you know. This may seem a little odd since we only met the other day, but...I'll always be here for you, Yuki-chan. I think that's a promise I'll be able to keep."
Taking Yuki's hand again, she led her back inside to the dancefloor. The whole way there, however, she wouldn't look at the other girl. Atsuko was blushing horribly. Crap, I can't believe I just did that, she thought. Not that I didn't mean it, but it sounded really harsh. She's going to be scared of me or something! Why do I always have to be so weird...
She glanced over at the other girl, trying to assess her reaction. "S-sorry, Yuki-oneesama...but you really are just like a ice princess." She smiled slightly. "Especially with how breathtaking you look in that dress."

"Maybe you aren't a snow princess anymore. I'm sure you've changed since you were little, and been through hardships. You've put up a barrier between you and other people - but you can still be a princess. My ice princess." The blonde's words struck a chord in Yukiko's heart, leaving her a bit taken aback. 'She...She knows...' The girl felt her heart skip a beat. It seemed that Atsuko had done what no one else had bothered to do in a very long time. She had picked up on Yuki's emotional barrier, and expressed the desire to get past it. "A-Acchan..." Was the only thing she could get out before the kind-hearted blonde continued. "You can tell me anything, you know. This may seem a little odd since we only met the other day, but...I'll always be here for you, Yuki-chan. I think that's a promise I'll be able to keep."Yukiko couldn't help the soft smile that tugged at her lips. It had been so long since she had heard those words... "...Thank you, Acchan..." She said softly, offering the girl a genuine smile. "That...That really means a lot to me. And I want you to know that I'm here for you as well. No matter what..." Though she still felt uneasy about making such promises, something deep in her heart told her it was wise to do so. As the couple made their way back to the dance floor, Yuki noticed the light blush that covered Atsuko's face. She soon found herself with a matching one as the girl complimented her current appearance. "You're too sweet, Acchan..." She giggled softly. "But in all honesty, no one could ever compete with how beautiful you are right now. Not only do you look gorgeous in that dress, but..." She paused for a moment, trying to find the right words. "Your beauty radiates from within... From your heart, y'know? And when you pair that with your outer beauty, you get the most stunningly beautiful girl in the world."

At Yuki's words, Atsuko looked suprised for a minute, and then giggled. "How did I manage," she said, beaming, "To become friends with the most perfect person in the world?" With that she took one of Yuki's hands in her own, and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Let's dance, Yuki." Looking up at her partner, she suddenly crinkled her nose. "This stinks. You're like, two inches taller than me." She changed her expression suddenly, winking. "That doesn't mean that you get to be seme though, Yuki-chan. I'll keep fighting for it!" She giggled again. "But you do have this strange habit," she said. "Of sweeping me off my feet." As she spoke, she rested her head on the other girl's shoulder as they twirled around. Closing her eyes, smiling, Atsuko felt that the moment was absolutely perfect.
Lifting her head, she looked at the other girl. "You know what's funny? We still don't know very much about each other." Her smile faded, and a more serious look took it's place. "But still, somehow, I feel closer to you than anyone else, ever..." She shook her head, her original smiling returning to her face. "Well, you already know my birthday. Let's see. You didn't know I like to sing. And dance," she added. "But not for theater or anything. When I grow up, I want to become an idol!" Her eyes shone with excitement. "It's my dream..." Suddenly, she blushed. "Do you think that's silly?" That's odd, Atsuko thought. I've told tons of people that before and never felt self-concious about it. I wonder why that with Yuki it's different.

Atsuko's response brought yet another bright smile to Yuki's face. "Me, perfect? Oh, no... You've got it backwards, Acchan. The only perfect person I see..." She giggled, giving the girl a kiss on the nose. "...is you." She smiled blissfully as the two began to dance, thoroughly enjoying the closeness it created between them. She couldn't help but laugh softly at the blonde's next statement. "This stinks. You're like, two inches taller than me... That doesn't mean that you get to be seme though, Yuki-chan. I'll keep fighting for it! ...But you do have this strange habit of sweeping me off my feet."She raised a brow, her signature playful smirk tugging at her lips. "That's fine with me, Acchan..." She smirked, leaning in close to whisper in her ear. "I love a good fight." Chuckling softly, she gave the smaller girl a soft kiss on the cheek. Though her outer demeanor was quite calm, her seme persona was yelling all sorts of wonderful things in her head. 'If she really thinks she can make a uke out of me... This is gonna be a very interesting relationship.' She thought, smirking again. Strangely enough, the thought of being in a relationship with Atsuko didn't bring the same degree of sickening panic it once had. While it still made her extremely unnerved, it was definitely not was far-fetched at this point. Atsuko was someone she felt at ease with, which was very rare for the white-haired girl. So maybe... Just maybe... If the opportunity came, she would consider giving it a chance. She snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of her blonde beauty's voice. "You know what's funny? We still don't know very much about each other. But still, somehow, I feel closer to you than anyone else, ever... Well, you already know my birthday. Let's see. You didn't know I like to sing. And dance. But not for theater or anything. When I grow up, I want to become an idol! It's my dream... Do you think that's silly?"The snowy haired girl blinked in surprise. She hadn't really thought about it until now, but Atsuko had a very good point. They really didn't know each other very well... But she was still glad to hear that she wasn't the only one feeling the intense closeness between them. "Y'know... Strangely enough, I feel the exact same way." When the smaller girl mentioned her dreams of being an idol, Yuki smiled brightly. "I don't think that's silly at all, Acchan. I could totally see you being an idol." She said, giving the girl an encouraging smile. "That being said... Maybe you should sing for me sometime. I'd love to hear it."

Atsuko blushed when the white haired girl said she felt the same way. She kept expecting something she said to be too much, or something that Yuki wouldn't feel the same way about. But so far, she seemed to be having the same feelings as Acchan. This made the blonde reassured not only that Yuki wouldn't leave her, but also that she wasn't a weirdo for liking someone this much after just meeting them. After all, Yuki appeared to feel the same way.
She smiled brightly at her partner. "I would love to sing for you. Anything you want." For more than just singing, she thought. I'd do anything for you, Yuki-chan.
Atsuko bit her lip, having mixed feelings about talking again. She wanted to tell Yuki that even bigger was her dream of becoming Etoile - but something held her back. She had been trying not to think about it, but the thought finally pushed itself to the front of her mind. I want to be Etoile more than anything...and I...want Yuki to be my partner. A small smile tugged at her lips just thinking about it. I'd be so happy if that could happen...but I don't know if Yuki would want to. She may not even like the Etoile position, and even if she did, she might not want to run with someone she only met recently.
So instead, Atsuko just smiled, and asked "So, Yuki-oneesama? Tell me about yourself."

So the magician fro LeRim didn't have her assistant yet. It seemed such a shame, but maybe Shun was simply waiting for the right girl to present herself. Clearly she hadn't just begun her magician's trade, given the full outfit she was wearing. There was a level of seriousness that just didn't come from a true beginner about her as well. Maiko truly believed her when she said that eventually she'd find a suitable girl (presumably) to fill the role.
In the meantime Shun had agreed to perform a trick for her. As the girl with pink eyes moved to a table for her demonstration, Maiko eagerly sauntered over alongside her. As increasingly more girls began to fill up the auditorium she wasn't really paying much attention to them. Considering the momentousness of the grand event around her, she was surprisingly focused on witnessing Shun's magic. Dancing could wait. While the cards were revealed and shuffled, Maiko smiled happily and looked on eagerly from her side of the table.
"Such a prepared magician to have such lovely winter themed cards," she commented as she studied their pattern, "I hope I won't be too distracted by that to follow the cards themselves."
At the magician's invitation she gingerly reached down and took the deck of cards into her hands. Without really thinking about it too much she held the deck up for an imaginary audience to see, resting on one hand while the other motioned. She followed this up by spreading the cards out into a fan for further display. Realizing what she was doing Maiko then carefully shuffled the cards back into a proper deck. After doing so she peered at a couple of cards, front and back, somewhat exaggerating her actions in the process. Finding nothing odd about the cards she set the deck down on the table with a graceful move that resembled one of her dance steps. Something in her mind was compelling her to make more of a show out of this than she probably should have.
"I think I'll cut it.. here, Sando-san," she decided, removing the top third or so of the deck and setting it next to the remainder of the cards.
"Please, continue," she concluded, blushing a little afterwards.

"Why thank you." she said with a slight bow of her head. It did take a little searching, but it always paid to be prepared, as evidenced by the compliment she had just received from Maiko. "For large events, such as this, one must always prepare to be at their best! Now do not be concerned. I am sure your powers of observation shall prove most adequate."
She held another of her cryptic little smirks as the Miator student cut the deck. Maiko had certainly made a show of it. Not that Shun minded. Anyone who could add a little flare to her performance was more than welcome. The crowds were starting to form within the auditorium, but they had yet to do anything that would garner the attention of their fellow classmates. Something would have to be done about that, but that could always wait. Right now, she had a trick to perform.
"But of course!" With a swift motion of her hand, Shun returned the two decks to a single pile of fifty two cards. She gave the deck one tap with two of her fingers before lifting them off the table and holding them in the palm of her hand.
"Now, my dearest Maiko-Senpai, if you would be so kind as to select a card of your choosing." she instructed, "And hold on to that card."

Maiko stood attentively watching the motions of Shun's hands as she prepared her trick. After showing off a little the Miator student had decided to keep her hands folded in front of her for now. If she did too much it might distract from the trick itself after all. They hadn't gathered an audience yet, but they might. In that eventuality she should supplement Shun's talents, not overshadow them. She wondered if there was any significance to tapping the deck with two fingers one time, but it probably wasn't that important.
"I guess if you had an assistant, they'd say something like 'Remember, it's just an ordinary deck of cards!', right? Maybe that's too direct," she mused, trying to be of some help while she was being entertained.
When Shun held the deck up, Maiko once again motioned to it in order to show it off. That was probably what she'd do if she were an assistant. At least she thought so. Her hand gestures were fluid as she went from waving in the direction of the deck to being poised to draw one of the cards within. Maiko's hand wavered, her expression serious as she debated which section of the deck to select a card from. Finally she smiled and slipped one out from the middle of the deck.
"I have my card, Sando-san," she announced, then glanced down at the king of hearts - Maiko had always wondered why he looked like he was putting a sword through his head. The thought made her chuckle. At the same time she held the card away from Shun to show it to the 'audience' she'd played things up for earlier.
After a wide wave of the card towards girls who weren't paying attention and empty chairs, Maiko held the card close once more. Her big smile persisted as she awaited the next step.

"Well then, Maiko-senpai, shall I consider this an audition?" Shun smiled as the Miator once more made show of presenting her card. It was, perhaps, not how Shun would have made such a presentation, but it was a fine gesture nonetheless. And certainly not the way a typical audience member would act. It was most intriguing.
Now that she had claimed her card, it was Shun's turn. If she had done this right, the card that Maiko currently held would be the King of Hearts. And Shun had every reason to believe that she had played her part perfectly. Forcing cards could be tricky, though. Some element of luck always had to be present.
Shun took the remaining cards and fanned them out, face down on the table. She looked up and around at the rest of the auditorium. Not many spectators had gathered. In fact, she still could only count Maiko as her audience. No matter.
"And so, 51 cards remain. With one held ever so expertly in your fine hands." she winked and circled around the table, hands behind her back, she reached Maiko and took one of her hands in her own and held it up in the air. It was, of course, absent of the card in question. Bringing the hand up, she planted a soft kiss upon the knuckles and took a few steps back to her side of the table. From seemingly nowhere, Shun began to produce more cards. These, however, where all the King of Hearts. All in different styles, but they were the King of Hearts.
"51 cards!" she announced, "And you hold the 52nd. Which, I would presume, would be the King of Hearts!"

Ariana was late. She hated being late. But, it couldn't be helped, seeing as she had student council duties to finish up. And as soon as she had completed them, the redhead had slipped on her dress and made her way to the ball. Her dress was a simple blue that matched her eyes, and it trailed all the way to the floor. It was of course low cut, showing off plenty of her body, and the sleeves were off the shoulder. She had made the entire thing herself, and she was rather proud of it. As for her hair, she had decided to leave it wavy tonight instead of straightening it like normal, and she had pulled the back of it up in a long ponytail that touched just above her waist.
She hadn't come with a date, so she stood on the dance floor by herself, observing everyone. She noticed that Shun Sando, a second year who also attended Lulim, was standing with a blue haired girl and they had attracted quite the crowd. However, Ariana stayed where she was, not interested in magic tricks. She recognized the girl's talent, but was not amused by such things. So, she stood by herself, almost hoping that someone would approach her so she wouldn't be so bored.

"An audition, Sando-san? If you are willing to consider me for the role, I'd be happy to audition for you," Maiko replied to the magician's inquiry during her own card presentation. She was actually very curious now if it would be possible to be considered for the job. So far she'd been acting like an assistant without thinking about it much.
Shun continued to display her talented showmanship as she proceeded with the trick. The way she spoke was somewhat formal but in any case unusual for a girl her age. Something about it was endearing. And the girl herself was a mystery to the Miator student. All Maiko knew was that she was a magician and that her name was Sando Shun; what school the girl attended, her year in school and what else she might enjoy were totally unknown. Yet all it had taken was the magician part of her to draw in Maiko and make this the best thing to happen so far at the ball for her.
Becoming involved in a magic show and possibly auditioning to be Shun's lovely assistant was one thing. What the Lulim girl with pink eyes did next was unexpected. As she began circling around the table Maiko cheated out a little so that she was facing the magician better. Everything after that was simply improvisation, since she otherwise wouldn't have known how to act. Maiko gently slid her hand into Shun's when the magician took it in her own. She gracefully shifted her pose just enough so that her height could not possibly obscure Shun from the view of their meager audience. Then she blushed at the soft kiss she'd received on her knuckles. Was that just showmanship or more direct interaction with one's lovely assistant?
Trying not to be just surprised by the turn of events, Maiko put on her cheerful smile once again. She also realized how many little compliments had been directed toward her so far. Like her 'fine hands' and the comment about her intellect. Were they not both girls Maiko might even have considered the combination of compliments, formal gestures and language and that most recent gesture as being gentlemanly. Maybe it was just part of the show. Maiko couldn't help but hope maybe she was doing well in the audition.. if it was one.
The flurry of cards Shun produced surprised Maiko in a different way. At first her expression was genuinely shocked, but then it shifted to great joy and amusement. Of course she knew there was a trick to what had just happened, but it was still impressive. As if it had been rehearsed she turned her card around again just as Shun proclaimed she must have the King of Hearts. A little awkwardly because of the card in her hand, Maiko clapped enthusiastically.
"Amazing, Sando-san! You're a very talented magician," she complimented, eyes starry as she motioned to Shun with both hands, "Ladies, let's hear it for the amazing Sando Shun-san!"
She held the pose for a moment, then gently set her King of Hearts down on the table with the rest of its deck. Still smiling, she added, "Thank you so much for the demonstration, Sando-san! I'm really happy you had the time to share it with me.."
Another pause, then she felt compelled to ask, blushing a little, "So how did my audition go?"

As the trick had progressed, the pair had begun to draw an audience. It was always nice to have a crowd to play to. Maiko revealed that her card was, indeed the King of Hearts. Which was nice, because the whole thing would have looked odd if it was the Five of Clubs. She gathered the cards up and shuffled them together back into one stable deck.
"I would say," she replied, "that you audition quite well."
She gave another wink to Maiko and discreetly slipped one of the King of Hearts cards into her purse. A little surprise for later. She had not been actively searching for a suitable assistant. But, perhaps now was the time to start. Maiko was a fine candidate. An older student from St. Miator. There were a number of outifts she was sure would look quite elegant on the girl.
"Thank you, fine ladies of Astrea Hill! If any of you are unfamiliar to me, I am Sando Shun, St. LeRim." she gave one of her sweeping bows, before raising and gesturing towards Maiko, "The lovely lady to my left is Maiko-senpai, who so graciously lent me a moment of her time on this enchanting evening."
