Formal parties weren't really Ubu's cup of tea but everyone had been talking about this Winter Ball for a few weeks. How highly they anticipated its arrival made her kind of excited herself. It was easy for her to get caught up in someone else's excitement even though she really didn't feel any of her own towards a given event. A lot of girls were always gossiping about what kind of dresses they would wear or what they thought the prominent figures of the school would wear. Of particular interest to them were what the Etoile couple would wear, how would they match, would the match, all that kind of thing. This reminded Ubu of a promise she'd made upon arriving at the school four months prior.
A promise to break the Etoile curse that supposedly had broken up so many couples in the recent past. Now that her plan to infiltrate Spica's dorms had been carried out she could devote her full attention to this mystery. Which meant she'd researched the current couple, as well as past couples to try and draw some parallels if in fact there were any. The Winter Ball seemed to be kind of prominent in many of the stories so she thought it would be a good place to try and observe some things in action. Was there something about the place where the ball was held that might give her some clues to this mysterious curse? It was worth a shot.
So she ended up attending after all, not really knowing anyone she saw at first but happily searching the whole auditorium like a great detective. No centimeter would go unsearched for clues to what might bring about a curse on a loving couple. Thus far there had been no evidence of anything bad, but the night was young. Ubu had to be the worst dressed of all the girls at the Ball though. She didn't wear a dress or gown, but instead khaki trousers, a very plain white blouse under a brown jacket and a brown fedora. The same one she'd worn for her Spica adventure. Now she stood in the corner, staring at the ceiling and sketching out what it looked like in a little notebook she normally kept in her pocket.
"Interesting... there are exactly five tiles in this one corner.. 5.. what does that mean?" she thought aloud, not really sure if there was any real significance to that or not. But it could be important so she had to note it.

Aki smiled with joy when Riko accepted her gift. And would Aki give her a hand with putting it on? Of course! Aki took the necklace and went behind Riko and clipped it around her neck. She then took the hair out from under it and let it flow over the necklace. Aki giggled in her mind. Riko was very beautiful. Aki sighed on the inside. Aki wasn't nearly as pretty as Riko. Riko had light pink hair with beautiful light blue eyes. But Aki had black hair and darker blue eyes. Man, if she and Riko ever were to have a relationship Aki would be shocked!
When Aki got her present, she was in awe of the pretty charm bracelet Riko had given her. "Yes, you can put it on if you like Riko-chan." Aki said. Riko was so nice! This was going to be the best night ever! Aki smiled just thinking of dancing with Riko or something else together! Aki looked around and saw all the other girls in the auditorium. They looked like they were having fun. "So, Riko-chan, later do you want to dance?"
Man, their friendship sure was growing!

"Sure!" she answered happily. Then her blue eyes swept the scene again, searching for other familiar faces. Then she spotted her l, a certain silverette that filled Rin with giddy excitement.
"Hey, Ubu-Chan is here!" celebrated the girl with the cotton candy colored hair. "come with me Aki-Chan, I want you to meet her!"
She took Aki by the hand and started toward her friend when an even more notable person passed by. Time slowed down for a moment, including Rins heartbeat. The seme Etoile passed by, without even noticing them. Rin felt her heart sink and flutter all at once. A unicorn. Rin thought. She was just like a unicorn, magical and mythical, everything she should be but simply didn't want. It was only a momentary pause as she watched the blunette walk, but to Rin it was an amazing and terrible eternity.
Time rushed back, catching up and she moved again, free from the etoiles aura. "Ubu-chsn!" she greeted walking right up to her, "Merry Chirstmas! This is my room mate Aki-Chan. Ski-Chan, this is Ubu-Chan, she was my very first friend here." she closed her eyes in a cheerful grin. "I have a present for you, but I left it in the dorms. You'll have to wait till the morning to open it, I hope that's okay."

Anzu didn't dress up. Honestly, the fanciest she got was her school uniform. Most of her wardrobe consisted of baggy, loose jeans and hoodies. Not that she wasn't feminine or anything, she just didn't seem to have to capability to be fancy. But as soon as her fashionista of a step mother had heard of the winter ball, shed gone out and selected a dress for Anzu and sent it to her. She had cringed at the thought of being in the midst of that many people, and in the dress she now adorned as she, despite her anxieties, stood awkwardly in the midst of the ball. Luckily, the dress was relatively modest; a tea- length, ice- blue thing that had straps (thank God). Anzus hair hung loose, the tips reaching her elbows and her bangs swept out of her eyes. Despite how talented the girl was at hiding her insecurities and awkwardness, she was finding it hard to maintain composure here. He held her hands clasped behind her back, standing stiff and nervously glancing around. She honestly had no idea what to do, and was seriously contemplating leaving; why had she come in the first place? Notes- Aaaaand Anzus dress img.alibaba.com/img/pb/807/230/326/326230807_066.jpg

June, why are you here? You hate formal events and you know almost nobody on campus. Are you seriously that bored? Well, alright, I guess I'll let it slide. Could be funny to see you be awkward in a dress for a while.
As if by some cosmic force, the usually lazily dressed athlete was at a formal dance in something she hated wearing- Dresses. In particular, this one was black like a large majority of her outfits, and had purple lace accenting it. I suck at creating clothing on the fly so use your imagination and pretend that dress makes sense for the sake of the post. The one big thing that stood out about her was that her hair wasn't the choppy mess it usually is, but rather neatly swept back and tied in a ponytail. A short one, but it was there- And the look on her face gave away exactly how displeased she was about that. Less coverage on her cheeks meant more chance for something to go wrong.
Well, that was basically all she knew so far- That she was in a palce she didn't understand and in danger of being laughed out of it if even the slightest thing messed up her makeup right now. The things she did for her sister, honestly. 'Oh, it won't be too bad I promise! I just don't wanna go by myself.' Kendall had said to her, hours in advance. Well, as long as she was happy, it would be alright to wallflower the night away- And she intended to do just that. Especially considering how little she matched the theme of the night, and how few people she knew were here. She thought she saw Anzu but there was no way. Anzu was someone she only seemed to see on coincidence, and this would be one heavy coincidence, but this setting just didn't feel right to see the girl at. If she was here though, that would be fine. It could be fun to talk the night away instead of stare blankly into a sea of unfamiliar faces.

Aki smiled as she was accepted yet again. They would dance later, Aki was sure shed enjoy it.
As she was dragged away to meet someone, someone special to Riko. Aki was nervous that this person would not accept her, or maybe had feelings for Riko. but she took a huff of encouragement and hoped for the best.
To be honest, Aki was embarrassed thinking about when they met. Aki mistook Riko for Minigawa-sensei. But Aki was sure that they weren't the same. Riko is her own person; beautiful, kind, sweet, and caring. When Aki got there, she smiled meeting a girl with short silver hair that covered her eye. Aki reached her hand out and said,
"I'm Aki Reiko-san. But you can call me Aki if you want. Your a friend of Riko-chan, right?"

Kagami swiftly turned around, making the light fabric of her dress flare out around her, at the sound of her darling calling her name. Her eyes widened; Maiko never ceased to amaze her with how beautiful she was. Kagami felt her cheeks heat up, her lips grow into a splitting smile. She quickly ran to meet her darling halfway the distance between them, immediately wrapping her arms around her. She was considerably shorter then Maiko, especially with her darling in heels, so her arms wound their way around her waist, pulling her into an affectionate embrace. "Maiko- chan! The tiny whitenette looked up with an expression of pure joy. Merry Christmas! She looked downward modestly at her girlfriends compliment, smiling shyly; before, such statements would have made her uncomfortable, as she had never been able to see herself as beautiful or attractive. But when Maiko said it, it felt like she could really believe it. M-Maiko- chan... Arigatou, but you look much more beautiful." She giggled lightly. "I wasn't waiting long. Oh!" She pulled away slightly so she was able to hold up the box, where the drawing and the music book was, as well as the package for Suzumi- sama. "I r-really hope you like it! There's also a g-gift for your grandmother, since... I thought it would be nice." She smiled, excited to see her girlfriends reaction to the gift. Notes- oops, forgot to link her dress! i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/954585692/2013-New-Long-light-orange-Chiffon-cap-Strap-Bridesmaid-Evening-Formal-Party-Ball-Gown-Prom-Dress.jpg

Post by Hiroko Takashina on Mar 10, 2014 20:12:36 GMT -5
Hiroko was sure that a lot of girls got butterflies in their stomachs when it came to the Winter Ball, but they probably all had more lovely reasons to be anxious. A special date with a dashing or beautiful someone maybe. Friends who had planned out their dresses precisely so that they could match or compliment each other. None of them would at all have the reasons for being nervous that Hiroko did, which wasn't helped by the large number of girls who were already in the auditorium. Though she had been a student at LeRim for a couple of years now she had never attended the Winter Ball. There was simply no reason for her to go, and the number of girls who did attend was simply overwhelming. Everyone had a good reason to go that didn't need to be interrupted by some shy little LeRim who wasn't comfortable at parties anyway.
Tonight was the exception to all the excuses Hiroko had ever given for not going to the Winter Ball. Thanks to the combined efforts of two Spica girls and herself, Hiroko had actually identified someone who was a strong candidate to be her long lost sister. Her looks were similar, her hair a comprable shade and had been rumored to have a secret sister on campus. That this girl was an Etoile just made it that much harder to justify approaching her on a big night like the Winter Ball. On the other hand it was probably a more socially acceptable night to approach the girl than just out of the blue any other time. Once they had identified the likeliest suspect as being one Maiko Suzumi, Hiroko had fallen over herself to thank Sara and Coyote for their help. Now it was up to her.
After telling her adoptive parents that she wanted to go to the Ball, they'd given her a bit of extra money to buy a dress. Their shy daughter was actually interested in going to a social event - something that hadn't happened before, so they really wanted to encourage it. At the shop though Hiroko had been too busy worrying about looking formal enough for a meeting with one of the most famous and well liked girls on campus to actually try anything on. Or even make any kind of decision. Everything she kind of liked seemed too plain or old fashioned. Then, out of nowhere, a kindly older lady had stepped from behind a rack of gowns and offered to help Hiroko pick something. Her granddaughter was also attending a ball, so she knew a thing or two about these sorts of affairs. In the end, even though Hiroko kept thinking it was way too fancy for someone like her, she ended up with a floor length gown of varying shades of blue that grew ever so lighter as they descended from the bodice. Along the hem was a bit of white that rose like a gentle wave, sequined so that it shined in the light. As accessories the woman had suggested a pair of long white gloves, which were just like what Hiroko had worn as Shun's assistant.
Even wearing that ensemble at the ball Hiroko felt very out of place in something so flashy. A plain girl like her shouldn't advertise herself with this kind of dress, nor should she wear heels that made her stand out even more just by making herself taller. For tonight she'd forgone her favorite headband in favor of letting her hair hang loose. Some kind of updo would've been better but honestly she was hopeless when it came to things like that. Thankfully she still had her glasses and could see everything with crystal clarity. As she hesitantly walked into the auditorium she scanned the room for signs of her sister. That failing she also looked for girls with white hair, because the other Etoile girl fit that description. So far no luck. Hiroko walked towards the back wall, hoping that maybe from there she could observe the crowd and spot the person she was looking for. Questions swirled in her mind - would this Maiko really want to meet her? What was she like? Would she have time for Hiroko? So many questions that she didn't notice there was a girl with white hair not all that far away from her. One who, as it happened, was related to the whitenette Etoile. At the moment Hiroko had her back turned to Junko, but she did feel as if there were someone important nearby.

So it was Christmas Eve. A good time to return right? Right in the middle of a break, no homework to catch up on...yet. Nothing really going on..apart from the Winter Ball. She couldn't remember if she had attended in the past. It felt like decades has passed since she had last attended The Hill. She wore a rather nice dress and walked quietly into the sea themed dance. Everything was familiar and yet new. She wasn't sure any friends would really remember her after having been away for so long at her equestrian school. Things had been going well there, well, until Tsuyoshi had bitten an instructor. Served him right, whipping her horse like that. The instructor had immediately put in for the animal to be killed, Chibiru wouldn't stand for that, and it was back to Astraea Hill with her living horse in tow. Now she looked around, her hair was pulled up in braids and curls, a nice updo topped with a tiara. She looked like a princess. Maybe Kagami was here? She didn't know how to look for her white haired friend, if she was still attending or if she even looked the same. Chibiru had changed some, that much was true. She was a little more tan, a little taller, though still short, round blue eyes still the same bright blue. It was then she spotted a girl with white hair by the wall, and she started toward her, walking right past Kagami, who was hidden from her by a crowd of people, to a girl named June Kohma. "Um...hello?" She asked shyly, thinking it was Kagami. She'd be surprised at seeing the stern features of the Lulim student. Though, not wanting to be rude, she'd continue any conversation that began. Even if this wasn't who she was looking for, at least it was company on an otherwise awkward and lonely night, right?

What a gold mine of information! Students gallivanting, music, religious connotation, plenty of whispers to listen in on... This was glorious! And it was all her bounty, as she was here for such a wonderfully convenient purpose- as a representative of the Rose Garden. The promotional host, if you will. There were other hosts yes, and she knew that. But she was here, and she wasn't about to waste that. Adorned in her school colors, with a suit of all things along with the finest scent and style the host club could provide(with help from the cosplay club of course) this was her el dorado. Her Atlantis. Her ancient tomb.
And since she hated wearing anything that made her stick out, it was also her challenge- blend in while keeping her job quality high. Now, how to do that?
Well, step one would be to be so smooth that she could lure someone into conversation and hold them in it. She had several ideas for this, but none seemed to stand out more than pulling a guest from the wall who needed a partner and dancing with them. She waited, watching every corner of the room, flowing between the crowds until she spotted a surprising and familiar face- her cousin June. Now, her sister hated this woman, but Jill had always thought she was interesting. Though family members would be a boring and inappropriate objective to seek. Still, she kept her eye on the area around June, and soon, another would join her. The thing was, it seemed out of place. The body language displayed was more for a greeting than anything, so they either just met, or this girl just got here. Then there was June's reaction- a slow, deliberate, probably Russian reply. She did that sometimes when she wanted to be left alone.
This was an opening.
Jill made her approach, and it seemed like June saw her, because she rolled her eyes and said something else to the girl in front of her. It was hard to hear, but that didn't matter, because before long Jill was behind the new face. And before that could be verified, she moved in front of June. She was noticeably shorter than both girls, and didn't seem to be at all intimidated by the athletic girl or the princess because of it. Instead, she gave June a sort of playful wink, which could not be seen by the other girl.
"Mind if I cut in? You look like you're waiting for someone." She said, turning to the new face. "Sorry to interrupt. If entertainment is what you're after, I'd be happy to take a dance or two." A courteous bow, as was appropriate. It was the masculine, English variant of a bow, as if she was impersonating a prince. "If malady desires, of course." Spoken through her bow. And upon rising, she made very sure to give a gentleman's greeting by kissing the back of her hand.

How did she get herself into this mess? Even though she had a good month or two to think it over, she still drew blanks. At the mall, she had been convinced that she HAD to buy a dress for the Ball. The past two years, she had never done anything like that. Coyote felt like she had taken checks into the sideboards that weren't as hard as the pounding in her chest. Dressing up was one thing. But, dressing up like this? This just wasn't her style. She had tried to explain that to Sara and Jojo. But, neither of the two would accept "No" for an answer. And now, here she was, walking nervously into the ballroom. Her short purple hair was in it's usual state of disarray. The scar on her cheek was every bit as prominent as it often was. 'I look ridiculous, I just know it.' she thought. She didn't even recognize the familiar faces that were already mingling about. Coyote was just hoping to survive the night. 'And this is the last time I let 'em talk me into something like this!'"You look like you need something to take the edge off." a wry voice spoke up behind her. Coyote glanced over at a strange looking teal-haired girl. She was dressed in a garish looking pirate costume and a teasing glint to her eye. "This is a night to party, Montana." she approached the Canadian and leaned in to whisper, "Though, if ya need some help with that...just let me know. Oh...and bring cash." She slipped away and winked at the confused purplenette. 'Great...and I get to deal with weirdos, on top of it.' she thought, not acknowledging the fact that she had her own costume she enjoyed running around in.

Post by Ubu Miyase on Mar 11, 2014 0:21:37 GMT -5
Meanwhile Ubu was working through the mystery of the 5 corner tiles, trying to figure out what significance that had with the curse. If it did at all. There were five tiles in the corner. Maybe math could provide an answer to the quandry; lots of secret codes had something to do with math or riddles. So five times five was twenty-five, and twenty-five by twenty-five was.. 625! That meant there had to be 625 of these tiles on the ceiling which meant that some special number in that amount was part of the answer. Or there was a 626th tile somewhere that threw the whole equation off balance but contained the secret to what was causing the curse. At least that was what she thought might possibly be behind this observation. Then she looked up at the whole ceiling and realized there was no way there were 625 tiles on the ceiling. With a shrug she crossed out the first observation and went back to the drawing board. Maybe there was some secret Ainu burial ground the place had been built on? Or a samurai battlefield that was long forgotten? No, those didn't cause romance related curses.
Frowning she tapped her pencil on the notebook and thought of other curses she had researched before in the hopes of finding an answer. That was about when someone called out her name from behind. Ubu blinked and was freed from the mystefying clues that she'd found so far. Her notebook snapped closed as she recognized the voice as belonging to her cotton candy-haired friend Rin. No less her friend had another girl in tow who was also better dressed than Ubu. Both of them were. Not that Ubu cared or even missed a beat when the girls greeted her, though she did slip the notebook back into her jacket pocket.
"That's okay Rinko-chan, what's important is that you're here to say Merry Christmas to! I'm happy to see you again! Both of you look really nice tonight," Ubu remarked cheerfully while stepping over to the pair of girls, "I left all my presents in my room too, so I'll deliver them in the morning. Tonight I want to be able to move around freely and take everything in.. there must be something hidden somewhere here.. but nevermind that!"
She then reached out and hugged Aki, smiling as she made contact in the hopes of another memory triggering. After a few seconds of nothing happening she figured it wasn't going to happen this time. That revealed she stepped back and smiled on, acting as if hugging random people was totally normal.
"Nice to meet you, Aki-chan! I'm Ubu, and I'm a first year Miator student like Rinko-chan. Isn't her hair really nice?" Ubu still couldn't get over how pretty and soft her friend's hair was.

There was another warm smile from the pinkette, why were her friends so wonderful? She was happy to have these two friends meet. It was nice. Ubu had introduced her to Margeaux, a new friend, and partner in crime. It was only fitting that Rin should introduce a new friend to her in turn.
There wasn't much to say, since her friends were now addressing each other. Rin clasped her hands before her and looked around. Back in the crowd, she spotted the Etoiles again. She blinked at them, thinking of unicorns and let her gaze sweep the rest of the scene, was that a pirate? She thought she spotted a girl with a dark complexion dressed in a Victorian trouser and coat outfit. Then she spotted another girl in a suit. Rin tried very hard not to judge but her snobby upbrining made it hard to wonder why they were wearing pants. Then she noticed a princess talking to one of the girls in suits, maybe they had planned to come as a prince and princess?
Her attention turned back to her friends. "Is Malgulu-chan coming?" She asked, muspronouncing the name of her friends Margeaux for the hundredth time. It would be exciting to see all of her closest friends here on this one special night.

The tall whitnette was definitely not Kagami, not even remotely. She was civil enough, but she got the feeling the girl had no intention of entertaining her. Luckily she was rescued from the awkward situation a girl in a suit. "Ah..." She said in embarrassment. "Actually I was hoping to find someone I knew, but she might not be here tonight." After a moment of consideration though, she continued, "I guess though, I could dance. Even if she didn't come, I could have a little fun right?"
She took the girls arm and smiled, "lead the way!" Her smile didn't fully reach her eyes, she want sure if this person was genuine. But she could pretend to have fun, no, she would have fun. If she didn't know anyone here, that wouldn't stop her from meeting new people right? Everything was going to be just fine. With her tiara sparkling, she looked one last time at the crowd. No familiar faces, so she focused on her dancing partner. This could be really fun, she just had to stop worrying so much.
"I'm Chibiru. Nice to meet you."

The young Spican girl finished her drink an turned to look excitedly with her baby blue eyes; she loved social events like this, loved interacting with others (even though certain others no longer wanted to interact with her). Still, the tiny musician couldn't resist the temptation and began walking to where it was more populated, utterly determined to make some new friends, hang out with some old ones. Whichever! Her heels hurt; Junko hadn't worn heels for so long that even these little ones caused her feet to ache. Forgoing her mission for a moment, she sat down to peer down at her feet, wishing she had worn her converses as she usually did. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a head of blue hair and a beautiful dress of varying shades of the same color. Immediately, the girls mind went to Maiko, her sisters girlfriend and Etoile partner. With a huge smile, she stood up and walked over to her, happy to see the kind older girl who had brought her Nee- chan such joy. "Maiko- chan!!! How are- oh!" Junko stepped back after she had seen the girls face; it had its subtle differences from Maikos, and (the biggest identifier) she was wearing glasses. This deffinatly wasn't Maiko, though it was a mistake anyone could have made; the two girls looked alike, but Junko chalked it up to coincidence. "Sorry! I thought you were someone else." Still, this was a fantastic opportunity! Junko loved meeting new people, and hopefully this girl either hadn't heard or didn't believe the rumors about her. "Wow, your dress is soooo pretty!" She clasped her hands in front of her, admiring the garment. It really was beautiful, and the fabric looked so comfortable and pretty that Junko was tempted to reach out and touch it. "Oh, I'm Junko, by the way, Junko Hiruko! It's nice to meet you!Notes~Ich, this is terrible Gomen!
