"Yoru- Kun... You mean so much to me. I... I never want to lose you, and... Yes, Yoru- Kun. Yes, I would love to be your girlfriend. And your princess."The ivory princess's words brought tears to the normally calm prince's eyes. It was a glorious feeling, like beautiful fireworks lighting up the darkness that had once enveloped her heart. Suddenly, the world was a beautiful place. With a bright smile of her own, she spoke softly. "Junko-chan... You've just made me the happiest person in the world..." She still couldn't believe what had just happened. She had actually found the courage to confess her love to Junko...and now their hearts were one. Junko was her girlfriend, her princess, her dream come true... And to make things even better, she had brought the Christmas spirit back into Yoru's life. 'Christmas really is a time for miracles...' As if on cue, she felt a gentle hand squeeze hers. "Merry Christmas, Yoru- Kun."As she looked into her precious girlfriend's eyes, Yoru couldn't help but smile. Memories of the first time they met flooded into her head. She remembered hearing Junko sing, and sitting near her with the hopes of striking up a conversation. She remembered how she made her laugh, and how they'd spoken of the interests they shared. She remembered how her long ivory hair had glistened in the sunlight, and how her cerulean orbs had sparkled brightly when she smiled. Yoru had never believed in love at first sight, but now... Now, she knew better. With a warm smile, she leaned in closer before pulling the smaller girl into a gentle kiss. When she pulled away, she stayed close for a moment, her forehead lightly touching Junko's. "Merry Christmas, Junko-chan..." Note: I feel so cliche, but it's just so cute and I can't help it and I love it and-- *fangirl squeal* <333

Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers, Tower over me... Kagami watched, only a tiny bit nervous, as Maiko examined herself in her mirror. She hoped she hadn't put the clip in wrong, but the smile that blossomed on her girlfriends face comforted her. She blushed as Maikos words as she took her hand and spoke. "W-well, I draw a lot, so... I guess that's why." She smiled; it was small and shy, but genuinely happy, joyous. "And... M-Maiko- Chan, you are the best gift I have ever received for Christmas, or any time." She blushed a bit; she wasn't used to saying such affectionate things, but they felt so right when said to her dearest. She blinked her light violet eyes and connected them with Maikos gorgeous orbs, and blushed even more. Kagami still had a hard time, sometimes, believing that this, Maiko, all if it, was real and not just some glorious dream. She kept expecting to awaken in her dorm, and go back to her old life. But it never happened, and Kagami felt so blessed and so lucky to have found this gentle, strong soulmate. She listened carefully as Maiko voiced her wanting to tell Kagami her story. Maiko had explained that two girls she knew had met and fallen in love at the Memory Tree, just like they had, and ever since she had been wondering, making up stories in her head that might have made sense; Maikos friend? Or even a sister, perhaps? She smiled lightly, squeezing her darlings hand reassuringly. "I would be honored to listen to your story, Maiko- Chan." She smiled patiently, waiting to hear the story that seemed so very important to her beloved.

Says she talks to angels, Says they all know her name... Oh yeah, she talks to angels, They call her out by her name.Again Junko saw the tears in Yorus (her girlfriend!) eyes, but they didn't concern her this time. She smiled and wiped at her own eyes, removing the moisture that had built up there. "I'm so glad." She said, her voice sounding choked and it was very obvious that she was on the verge of tears herself. "Because... Because you make me happy, Yoru- Kun. You make me so happy..." Yorus arms around her sent her heart into a tailspin, and she rested her own hands on Yorus shoulders. She closed her eyes as she felt Yorus lips gently touched hers, and she was really afraid for a moment that her heart would explode, with how hard and fast it was beating. When she felt her princes forehead against hers, she opened her eyes again and stared directly into Yorus. She smiled, a huge, thrilled smile. "You're the best present ever, Yoru-Kun!" She laughed lightly, her happiness just leaking through her. She was hit with a sudden inspiration. "Could I play something for you, Yoru-Kun? Just for you! I promised I would when I heard you, remember?" Note: so, sorry bout that but I seem to be brain dead at the moment. And I couldn't let Yoru outshine Junko ^_~ lol jk

"You're the best present ever, Yoru-Kun!"Yoru let out a little giggle of her own, thrilled to see her princess finally coming back to her bubbly self. Ever since the heartache at the winter ball, it had pained her greatly to see the whitenette so uncharacteristically sad. She had wanted nothing more than to see her smile the way she had when they first met. And now, that smile was back and brighter than ever. And for the first time in her life, Yoru could finally say she was truly happy. 'I know it's much too soon to tell, but...I really hope this lasts...' Moments later, the scarlet prince was pulled away from her thoughts by the sound of her girlfriend's voice. "Could I play something for you, Yoru-Kun? Just for you! I promised I would when I heard you, remember?"The smile she held brightened. She had been yearning to hear Junko play again ever since that day at the fountain. "Of course you can, Junko-chan. I'd love that, actually." She said, taking a step back to give her room. Her auburn eyes sparkled with excitement and joy. Her heartbeat began to pick up speed again. Though she would never admit it, the sound of her princess's voice always stirred up a swarm of butterflies in her stomach, especially when she sang. It was a feeling she absolutely loved. Note: It's fine. X3 I was kinda hoping this would happen anyway...'cause, y'know...it's adorable. ^-^ lol

Says she talks to angels, Says they all know her name... Oh yeah, she talks to angels, They call her out by her name."Yay!" Junko excitedly clapped her hands together and ran to get a chair; she had always felt more comfortable playing sitting down then standing down. She positioned it in front of Yoru and looked up, with a "May I?" Before gently picking up Yorus guitar. It was a bit bigger then her own Fender, but she managed to wrap her arms around her. She tentatively strummed a few practice chords, getting the feel of the foreign instrument. She handles the guitar gently, kindly, as though it were the most precious thing she owned. After thinking for a few moments, Junko decided on a song and smiled; it was a bit outside her normal genre but she thought is did a pretty good job of telling the story of how she was feeling. So she cleared her throat and looked up again, getting the last bit of inspiration from her glorious prince. With one more smile, she started playing. "Is this the whole picture Or is it just the start? Is this the way you love me? You're capturing my heart. I used to try and walk alone, But I've begun to grow. And when you tell me just to rest, I'm finally letting go, I let go..."Junko put her heart and soul into the song, as she did every song she performed; music was the best way she knew to communicate with others, and she hoped this would hold true for Yoru as well, someone who spoke the musical language along with her. And I'm here to stay, Nothing can separate us... And I know, I'm ok... You cradle me gently, Wrapped in your arms.... I'm home...
I'm seeing so much clearer Looking through your eyes, I could never find a safer place Even if I tried... All the times I've needed you, You've never left my side... I'm clinging to your every word, Don't ever let me go... Don't let go..."The small Spican Studet Council President melded with the song, her hands finding the correct chords easily and without thought, the guitar turning into an extension of her own body. She could feel the beat of her heart quickening to meet the beat of the song. "And I'm here to stay, Nothing can separate us... And I know, I'm ok... You cradle me gently, Wrapped in your arms.... I'm home I'm home... I'm wrapped in your arms...
And I'm here to stay... Nothing can separate us... And I know, I'm ok... You cradle me gently, Wrapped in your arms... I'm home..."She let the final notes ring out, the music fading into the air around them. Junko looked up, a hopeful expression on her face. "Did you like it, Yoru- Kun?" She wanted nothing more in that moment for her knight to love the song, to love the music, to love her. She stood up, gently placing the guitar back in its case before standing up straight, her expression mirroring the enlightened, joyful feeling she always got from music, enhanced by the fact that it was for her girlfriend.

Telling Kagami would be okay. Maiko had kept her personal research to herself ever since she'd had the inkling that something romantic had happened at Astraea Hill for her mother. Speaking to others about it might cause word of her suspicions to reach her family's ears. If her mother found out about the investigation she probably wouldn't be pleased. She was already a little upset that Maiko hadn't responded to any of her proposals for omiai arrangements. Finding out her daughter had been looking into her past didn't seem like something that would make the woman happy.
But this was Kagami. Her beloved delicate upperclassman, who'd drawn such a beautiful picture of them together at the ball. The girl who was dearer to her than anyone else upon the blessed hill they went to school on. Maiko was sure that Kagami would be a good person to impart the tale to. Besides, hadn't she already said she would? Despite initial uncertainty Maiko smiled as she saw the patient look on her girlfriend's face. She walked a little bit away from the Christmas Tree while still holding Kagami's hand. Once they were out of the way she took a deep breath and then looked down at Kagami and nodded.
"This person I know.. she's older than me and also went to Miator. She's married now and has a daughter, but there's a strange feeling I get whenever I'm at her house. I think her husband loves her very much but she can't fully love him back. Romantically it's very one sided and they act more like friends than anything," Maiko explained, hoping she wasn't getting too far off topic, "Which is why I was curious when I found her school diary while.. um.. cleaning. She never talks about what happened when she was in school, even though she really wanted me to go to Miator too. I read part of it and it was really surprising."
Maiko squeezed Kagami's hand again and continued, "Here was a woman I hadn't ever seen be the slightest bit romantic with her husband, or anyone else. In the diary someone who was obviously in love was writing. She wrote about them in such beautifully poetic words that I can't do them justice just by repeating them. Someone who was incredibly dear, whose every action she adored. The person was only referred to as Kei... and then I did some research at the school library. Her name was Izuno Keiko, and she was a classmate."
"They met under a tree during the spring, when the cherry blossoms were all falling. Kei came out of the pink mist like an angel descending from heaven. I think it was love at first sight. The diary's writer thought she was very kind, compassionate and loving. They kissed that same day under the tree.. Kei had apparently come to get over a lost love and found another in the end," Maiko went on, staring off wistfully as she imagined the scenes she spoke of, "They spent every day together. Studying, walking on campus, having tea in their dorms, going to balls.. until they graduated. The person who wrote the diary had to say goodbye to Kei because she was getting married. I remember reading that her heart was in great pain as the family car drove away from campus for the last time. She had to wave goodbye to Kei and watch her fade into the distance. They never saw each other again."
"I wanted to learn more about them, so I hunted for that tree they met under. Her description of it was so detailed that I had to just stand under trees and look at what the view held in it. Finally I found it at the Memory Tree.. and then I met you," Maiko concluded, smiling a little as her gaze returned to Kagami.
"This story is important to me because the girl who wrote that diary, who loved Izuno Keiko, who was torn apart by leaving her behind.. that girl was my mother," Maiko explained sadly, then gently reached over to run her fingers through Kagami's hair, "I promise that I won't let us end that way. I'm not getting married to someone I don't love.. and I'm not losing you, Kagami-chan."

Amidst the festivities for Christmas Eve, Himiko was busy running a game in the St. Spica area of the walkway. President Junko had been too busy and preoccupied to give any extra directions to her, for good reason. The winter ball hadn't been a good experience for her according to the gossip. So instead Himiko oversaw a simple guessing game for students to try their luck at.
As prizes she'd brought in some plush animals she'd acquired for the purpose of giving away at this very event. Of course she couldn't just let them go for free. That's where the guessing game came in. She would take a pair of dice, then roll them on the surface of a table. They were rolled behind a cardboard screen she had made with old boxes and tape, then decorated with thlIngnan writing and logos. Once rolled she took one in each hand, holding the closed hands out for her contestants to study. They were to guess which hand held the higher numbered result. If they won they got a stuffed animal. If not, they got a sticker or some smaller prize for participating. Himiko made sure to ham it up and relented now and then, giving out an animal to a loser as well.
"Qapla! You are victorious! You may choose your prize, my lady!" she announced dramatically as a Lulim girl correctly guessed that the higher die was in her left hand. As she picked out a prize from the bag next to Himiko's station, the black haired girl called out, "Anyone else want to try their luck? Prizes for those with the courage to emerge triumphant!"

Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers, Tower over me... Kagami listened with a calm, patient expression as Maiko told her story. She felt her heart swell at the begining; two girls, falling helplessly in love at The Memory Tree, doing everything they possibly could to be together; just by listening to the story, Kagami could feel the pure love that the two shared. Maybe it was because their story was so much like her own. The next part, however, was devestating to her; again, maybe because of her own experiences. She knew how it felt to fall in love with someone and then have that person torn away from you, leaving nothing but a gaping hole that felt like it could never be filled. She felt tears in her eyes, and quickly wiped them away, before a shock went through her. The girl was Maikos mother. She suddenly felt a terror that was so strong she thought she would fall over, and indeed she did waver a bit; if that had happened to Maikos mother, if she had been forced to marry someone she did not love, what if history was doomed to repeat itself? What if her sweetheart was taken away, forced to marry another? Kagami was afraid, not only for herself, but for Maiko; she couldn't bare to think of her dearest in an unhappy union. Her hand tightened instinctually around her girlfriends, as though that would keep the unspeakable from happening. Her reassurance did help comfort Kagami, but it was obvious in her face how afraid she still was; between Maikos circumstances and her own parents refusing to acknowledge their daughters attractions (and therefore her girlfriend), how could she not be scared? They were just two princesses, set out against a world of expectations, and their situation would have been enough to terrify anyone. But Kagami again looked up into her girlfriends eyes and somehow, within them, found the strength to wrap her arms around her girlfriend as tight as she could, determined to never let her go. "M-Maiko- Chan... I can't loose you." She whispered. "And... I will fight for us as long as I can. I love you." She looked up an there was a strength that had never existed before within Kagami, a fight that had been born of the love she and Maiko shared. A love she was willing to do whatever it took for.

Maiko knew what Kagami had been through, being left behind and having a hole that felt like it'd never be filled. The story was so similar to what they'd been through together that she'd been afraid it would scare the girl away. Believing that someone would actually love her had been hard enough to do with her self-doubt. She still had fear of being forced to marry someone she didn't love. It was heightened, in fact, by the fact that she now had someone she did love. Would Kagami fear this too? Being torn apart by what had become family tradition in he Suzumi clan?
She never should had doubted Kagami even for that split second. There was obvious concern in her lover's eyes, but it was tempered by their feelings for each other. Getting hugged by her dear Spican really helped Maiko discard the fears about the future. Her princess who'd needed protection, time and understanding had suddenly developed a new fortitude. Maiko could feel the determination her girlfriend was filled with, and it reassured her.
Two princess against the world, but they were far stronger than that world realized. Maiko slipped her arms around Kagami tightly. Not really even thinking about it; it was simply instinctive to embrace the girl after she'd initiated the hug. The blue haired girl felt a wave of warmth wash over her, and everything was okay. There was no way that she was going to lose this love she'd dreamed of so often and finally found. Suzumi women might typically marry after graduation, but Maiko was not her mother.
"I couldn't ask for anything more, Kagami-chan. You're not going to lose me.. I refuse to follow that stupid tradition of getting married to someone the family arranges. No more," Maiko responded with confidence, then smiled and kissed Kagami on the cheek.
She then asked, "Can I ask you something, Kagami-chan? What... um... what do you think about.. Etoile? Do you think we could win?"

Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers, Tower over me... Maikos embrace, and the feelings Kagami got from it, reassured her even more then her words did. The smaller, timid girl found comfort in Maikos assurance that, no, she wasn't going to let them be torn apart either. This was a love that was worth fighting for and, honestly, Kagami knew she couldn't bare having her heart ripped open again; she had gotten through the last two times, but something told her that, if Maiko were the one to be taken away, she would never recover from the wound. She blushed a bit, as she always did, at her girlfriends gentle kiss. Kagami always felt such joy at affection from Maiko, and gave her usual genuine, shy smile. "I'm s-so glad..." She "Because I don't know what I would do..." She couldn't even finish that sentence, instead just locking her arms tighter around her blue- haired beauty. But then she jumped in surprise when the word Etoile reached her. Etoile? Her eyes widdened; she had never even thought about the Etoile title. She was about to say no, of course not , how would someone like her ever hope to win something like that? But then she again looked into Maikos eyes, and realized that maybe she wasn't Etoile material, but her darling certainly was. She could at least be there to support her if that's what she wanted. So her cheeks pinkened again as she spoke. "W-well, Maiko- Chan... I think you could win. And... And I would be there to love and support you the whole way."

As the whitenette began to sing, the scarlet prince felt her heart flutter. 'Her voice is so beautiful...just like her...' Her soft amber orbs focused solely on the girl before them, the lyrics of the song spreading warmth through her heart like wildfire. There was no denying the clear display of happiness, her loving smile betraying her normally stony expression (though at this point, she no longer wished to hide her feelings). Her eyes sparkled with sheer joy, gentle tears dripping down her cheeks. When the final note was sung, she watched as her little princess looked up at her with hopeful eyes. "Did you like it, Yoru- Kun?"With a gentle nod, she stepped forward, taking Junko's hands into her own. "I loved it, Junko-chan. It was absolutely breathtaking. But you know...there's only one thing I love more than hearing you sing..." She said, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. "...and that, my princess, is you." She leaned down and planted a soft kiss on the smaller girl's lips. She couldn't deny that she loved the feeling it gave her. It was like thousands of tiny butterflies dancing about as they pleased. And it was a feeling she never wanted to go away. As she gazed lovingly at her darling princess, she realized just how deeply she had fallen for her. Junko was...the one. The girl of her dreams. The girl she wanted to marry someday. The girl she would happily spend the rest of her life with. The girl she never thought she'd find... "Junko-chan..." She started, a hint of nervousness tainting her voice. "I-I don't know how or why this happened, but... I'm beyond glad that it did. And I want you to know that you mean more to me than anything in this world. I...I know I can never be Yuudai...but..." She paused, her heart skipping a beat. "...I promise I'll always treat you like a princess. Because that's what you are, Junko-chan... You're my princess."

It was another big risk, breaching the subject of Etoile to Kagami. As happy as Kagami had become since that dance at the Winter Ball Maiko didn't want to push her into anything. Kagami was a princess she cared for. Someone to enjoy life with but not to force things upon. Just because she'd dreamed about it didn't meant that it was something she should drag anyone into. That wasn't what you did with someone you loved.
She was nervous when Kagami jumped in surprise at the idea, and worried that it had been a bad idea. Maiko had dearly wanted to be Etoile some day but not this way. She wanted to be happy with her girlfriend. As she tenderly looked down at the shorter girl, she knew that was only possible so long as Kagami was happy too. Her words stung a little too. Kagami was wonderful and so cute! If anyone was Etoile material it was her, not the un-princely but rather tall Miator.
"I won't win without you.. I appreciate your support, but I want you to be happy if we do try it," Maiko replied, blushing herself, "I've been thinking about it a lot; even before we met I dreamed about Etoile.. and now that I have someone I love so dearly, it seems like a chance for that. But only if my princess wants to do it. Your happiness is what matters most to me, Kagami-chan."
She smiled as she suggested, "But I think that if anyone can win, it's you. I'd just be there as an accessory for your inevitable victory."

Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers, Tower over me... Kagami listened quietly as Maiko spoke, the words sending a wave of warmth through. She would have never have considered herself Etoile material; the small, easily- frightened Spican girl who had only just begun to find herself again? But Maiko believed in her. And if Maiko believed, how could she not? She gazed into her favorite blue eyes, and actually pictured the two if them standing on a stage, accepting the Etoile pendants, announcing to everyone how much they loved each other. Maybe her parents would finally be proud of her. Maybe she would finally prove to everyone that she wasn't just a shadow of her sister. Maybe her love for Maiko was enough to carry through it and earn them the title. She gave a tiny smile before speaking. "Maiko- Chan... I never thought about doing something like that... But... If y- you want to, then... I would love to! I... I know we could do it." And of course, by "we" she meant Maiko. She wanted nothing more then to help make her girlfriends dream come true, and while she still held doubts about her running, she was happy to be running with Maiko, and she knew nothing could happen with her by her side.

Kagami still sounded uncertain, but not about the running for Etoile itself. Her words explained that it was much more of a confidence issue than a distaste for the proposal. Relief spread across Maiko's face as Kagami seemed to be okay with trying to become Etoile. She hugged the beautiful white haired girl in her arms a little tighter, a look in her eyes that said everything would be okay.
She knew that her mother would have mixed feelings about it. Surely it was a wonderful thing to aspire to, but wasn't Maiko a little too close to that girl she was running with? Shouldn't she pick a friend from Miator instead? The most liberating thing was that Maiko didn't care what her mother would think. Her grandmother had been Etoile. Maiko wondered if she should ask the venerable woman for advice now that it seemed she was ready to try for it herself. She even thought that it might be fun for Kagami to meet her grandmother, at least for the desserts the woman was an expert at baking.
"Okay, then we'll do it. To show the whole school how much we care about each other. But if you get uncomfortable or scared at any point and want to quit, I won't hesitate to pull us out," she told her beloved, "I know that Yukiko-chan and Atsuko-chan are running already, and there's other couples who want to too. But I'm sure that we can win! I'm an unusual partner for anyone, but every couple is different. We just have to be ourselves, and that will be enough."
She then mentioned, "I know someone who actually won when she was in school.. do you want to meet her sometime? She's not my mother, if you're worried about that. In fact she makes really good cookies."

Says she talks to angels, Says they all know her name... Oh yeah, she talks to angels, They call her out by her name. The look on Yorus face was enough to drive Junkos heart crazy. The smile, the happiness in her eyes, the tears sparkling. For a moment she actually forgot to breathe, the air catching in her lungs. Junko stood as Yoru took her hands, and smiled widely. "I'm so glad. I want to make you as happy as you make me!" Junko found the next words and the smirk on Yorus face incredibly adorable. She giggled and, as Yoru kissed her, happily returning it. It felt like the first kiss, only better; she felt her entire world fell away and centered around this girl in front of her, her prince who had come to sweep her off her feet. She felt her hands unconsciously tightening around Yorus, and when it was over she smiled so bright it might have blinded someone. Junko was still new to the whole "love" thing. This was her first time feeling it for real, and so she wasn't entirely sure what exactly to expect from this. But what she did know was that Yoru made her happy, and that she was pretty sure she made Yoru happy too. And if they made each other that happy, well, that's what mattered. Right? Junkos grin faltered a bit as Yoru mentioned Yuudai. It was true that she was still hurting over what had happened with her, but she had come to realize that the love she had felt for Yuudai was entirely different then what she felt for Yoru. Junko took her hand out of Yorus and reached up, placing it on her cheek and gently tracing her jawline with her fingers. "Yoru- Kun..." She bit her lip slightly before she continued. "I know you'll never be Yuu- Kun. But that's ok; I don't want you to be Yuu- Kun. I want you to be my Yoru- Kun." She smiled. "And you are my prince, and I don't want you any other way but you, ok? Promise?"
