Hikari comes off as a serene, calm, gentle, and mature girl despite her young age and her troubling past. Her nearly-constant smile is infectious and comforting. Her movements are elegant almost to the point of artistry. However, there are times when her posture seems forced and her movements lose their elegant smoothness, when her smile fades and her demeanor becomes uninviting.
HIKARI : cooking, the outdoors, her sister, photography
DISLIKES : being called perfect
FEARS : spiders or insects of any kind, being alone, being forgotten, heights, not making an impact in anyone's life
ASPIRATIONS : become a photojournalist
DESCRIPTION : Everything seems to come easily for Hikari. Without needing to study, her grades are perfect and she takes to anything, except for sports, with ease. Although she has talent as a musician, this is the one area in which her sister excels over her. She is a humble, kindly girl, and her gently smiling demeanor is calming. When it comes to others, she is easy and friendly. With herself, she always strives for perfection and hates it. She dislikes when people say that she is perfect and puts a great deal of stress on herself to live up to their expectations. She does not allow herself to be bothered by many things, even if she must force herself to move on. Hikari feels incredibly guilty over her sister's death and blames herself for it, firmly believing that it should have been her instead. While at times she may seem unaffected, she also tends to cry easily and can be incredibly dramatic, particularly about unimportant things. Hikari strives to help people and to somehow make an impact on people's lives so that she will be remembered. Because of this obsession, she is incredibly active in school clubs and organizations. Hikari has also taken up an interest in photography due to the 'blank spots' in her memory, as she calls them. These are the times when her personality noticeably changes, although she claims to have no memory of it.[/ul]
HIKARU
DISLIKES : her sister, the outdoors, anyone who tries to get too close to her sister
FEARS : not being able to protect her sister, being alone, heights, the feeling of free-fall, the dark, being replaced in her sister's heart
ASPIRATIONS : become a famous musician
DESCRIPTION : Hikaru both loves and hates her sister. She envies her sister's apparent perfection, struggling to do decently in any of the fields in which her sister excels with ease. She is incredibly proud of her piano playing, the only area in which she sees herself as being better than her sister, where she is considered by many to be a prodigy. She takes any chance she can to be at the piano. She is fiercely protective of her sister, doing whatever she can to be sure Hikari is safe and feels guilty that she didn't notice the abuse that Hikari went through. She is pleased that she was able to protect her sister, but feels lonely and takes whatever chance she can to be together with Hikari so that she is not alone in death.[/ul][/blockquote]
What does you character think of the Etoile position as a whole? She thinks that it's a lovely idea for two people who care so deeply for each other and who are admired through the school to act as role models and representatives for the other students. Everyone sees the Etoiles and knows them.
Does your character want to be an Etoile someday? Yes. Wouldn't it be lovely to be known, admired, and remembered by everyone? What better way to be able to make a difference and to do some good. Hikaru doesn't want her sister to be close enough to someone to run for Etoile.
What does your character think of Shizuka and Chokone, the current etoiles?
Shizuka: She doesn't know much about Shizuka, as a student of the other schools, except what she saw during the election. She seems to keep to herself, but she looks happy with Chokone. Hikari would like to get to know her more and is looking forward to working with her.
Chokone: She doesn't know very much about Chokone either, but she seems like a sweet girl from what Hikari can gather. It would be nice to get to know the two Etoiles better and to work with them more this year than the pair last year, despite the fact that last year's Etoiles had been from her school.
What does your character think of the other schools?
Hikari is proud of the school where her family went and which holds such history and meaning. She admits to friendly rivalry with Spica and pride in Miator in particular. However, she does not let her feelings get in the way of potential friendships.
~History~
History before Astraea Hill:
The Igarashis are a well-known, wealthy family in the restaurant business. Not only do they have their own restaurants, but they are also known for investing in up-and-coming businesses. And every new restaurant with their support flourished. They were considered culinary and business geniuses.
Shimizu Hotaru had been a chef at one of the Igarashi's restaurants. it was there that she met the carefree Igarashi Kouji, and the two fell in love. They were given the family's blessings and were married. Despite her new status, Hotaru continued working diligently in the restaurant. Tragedy followed the young couple. Soon after their marriage, Hotaru found herself pregnant with twins, but due to complications, she didn't survive the birth of their second daughter.
Kouji did not blame his children, and instead showered them with love. T him, these two girls that so closely resembled their lovely mother, were the last pieces of his beloved left on earth. They were her precious gift that she left behind for him. The girls were spoiled and despite their similar appearances, they developed very different personalities. Hikari, the older of the two, was outgoing and easily approachable while her younger sister clung desperately to her. Hikaru was wild and unapproachable, and most of all she didn't care about anyone except for her sister and her father. Hikari showed intelligence and grace, she seemed the image of perfection and was considered an angel by all who knew her. Hikaru had to work much harder than her sister, and seeing Hikari's easy perfection Hikaru often gave up quickly, deciding that she could never compare. However, she did excel as a pianist and was considered by many to be a prodigy.
When they were four-years old, Kouji died in a kitchen fire. Hikari and Hikaru were left as orphans and passed around from family member to family member, each only willing to put up with the children with their sights truly set on the girls' sizable inheritances. Hikari, they said, was delightful and easy to care for, but Hikaru made things difficult at each and every household.
Finally, at the age of six, they came into the hands of their grandparents. Hikari and Hikaru were, by all appearances, treated kindly. Hikaru even began to open up, almost becoming a pleasant child while Hikari became sullen and withdrawn. Their grandfather loved them, particularly Hikari. He loved her a little to much. A year later, returning home early from a piano lesson, Hikaru heard her sister screaming and caught her grandfather in the act. Immediately, the police were called. He went to prison, his wife divorced him, he lost his reputation and his fortune, as well as his chance at the twins' inheritances from their father.
Hikari and Hikaru were taken away and sent to live with their mother's cousin, a kindly woman who had never been able to have children of her own, and her husband. Hikaru grew more protective of her sister and more withdrawn, blaming herself for not noticing what had been happening for nearly a year. Hikari slowly returned to her cheerful, outgoing self. The girls were soon legally adopted by the couple, who never touched the inheritance, happy enough to finally have children of their own.
They lived happy like that for years and the girls finally settled into their new lives. They allowed themselves to be comfortable and happy, and to have a new family. Hikari continued to excel in everything that she did, finding a particular hobby in the culinary arts like her mother. Hikaru returend to her piano lessons and to the public eye.
Four years after they came to their new home, their grandfather was released. Hikari and her new mother had gone out to run errands. Hikaru had come home from piano lessons and was left alone to study. Hikari and her mother chattered happily as they returned, but when they got close to the apartment building, Hikari saw a small figure leap from one of the windows. Her mother covered the young girl's eyes, but not before she caught the familiar glint of silver-white in the sun. Hikari broke free of her mother's grasp and ran. When she saw the remains of her sister's body, she passed out.
Their grandfather was caught and it was revealed during the trial that he had killed Hikaru, thinking that it was Hikari, to get revenge on her for tempting him and thus destroying his life. Hikari had been rushed from the room, but the damage was done. She had heard. After the incident, however, Hikari remained remarkably unchanged. She continued to be cheerful and outgoing, always with a smile on her lips. To her face, people called her brave, but under their breaths they said the gentle smile was disturbing.
Those closest to Hikari, however, were the ones who noticed the changes. She could sometimes be found speaking to herself, saying that she was talking with her sister. There were moments when her entire personality seemed to change - she would become unruly, sarcastic, and would refer to herself as Hikaru. At these times, she would become angry when people called her 'Hikari', annoyed at 'being compared with her perfect sister'. Her parents worried about her and sent her to a series of specialists. Nothing changed. Now, Hikari is twelve, and she is eligible to go to St. Miator Girls' Academy, where the Igarashi family traditionally sent their daughters. It had been in her father's will that Hikari go there as well. Her adoptive parents hope that getting her away from the family, and from the place where her beloved sister died, would be good for her.
First Year:
Since entering Miator, Hikari has made many acquaintances but few firends. She joined the journalism club to act as photographer and found that she enjoys photojournalism more than she thought she would. She attended the Winter Ball as a member of the journalism club with her camera ready. Unfortunately, a girl with purple hair spilled punch on the camera, breaking it. The last thing Hikari remembered was devastation, and then she awoke in a strange room, on a strange bed, and with a strange girl for company. Kayuki, the girl with the purple hair from the night before, seemed very strange but friendly enough and Hikari welcomed any potential friendships. What she doesn't remember is the personality of her twin sister, Hikaru, taking over when the camera broke. Or that Kayuki has a secret like hers. Kayuki is not Hikaru's servant without Hikari's awareness.
Second Year: Hikari has been busy with events and other duties for the student council. She didn't have much time to spend with Kayuki until the winter, when they met at the Ball. Their meeting was brief as Hikari was often called away again for student council duties. They met again during the Valentine's Day event where Kayuki and Hikari confessed their love for each other. But soon after, Hikari "lost time" and blacked out. Hikaru took over, arguing loudly enough for someone to hear and for rumors to spread. Also during the winter, Hikari met a girl and a broken statue on campus. She and Coyote quickly became friends, but their friendship resulted in detention, where the girls were required to clean the lunch room. Because of her duties as SCP, they were allowed to postpone their punishment until after the Valentine's Day event. Troubled by her recent period of missing time, Hikari was distracted and immediately lost time again when Hikaru took over, jealous of Coyote's friendship with Hikari. Hikaru ran off campus with Coyote following.

Hikari ran her fingers over the piano. The smoothness lingered against her fingertips, familiar yet so unfamiliar all at once. Hikari did not play piano, but somehow her fingers itched. And so, the unexplainable urge had led her here, had led her to pull the sheets off the old piano, untouched since her sister's death. Her mother and father returned to work while Hikari remained home from school. She was getting concerned with the amount of time she was taking off. Surely, she would fall behind in her subjects and in her club activities.
"Hika!" the voice called to her. Her mother, stood in the doorway, looking nervously at the small, silver-haired child. "Are you going to play something..?"
Hikari laughed. Everyone knew that she hadn't had the talent, not like her sister. "Hikaru would never forgive me if I even tried. The woman's expression relaxed, relieved. "I thought you had to work today."
"Actually, I have something I want to tell you. Your father and I decided to send you to St. Miator." The alma mater of her grandmother, her aunts, her cousins....
Tears welled in the edges of her amethyst eyes. "But...then I have to leave home..." This was where her family was, where the last remnants of Hikaru were. Leaving home meant leaving her sister behind.
Growing up meant leaving her sister behind. And leaving Hikaru was the last thing that Hikari wanted to do.
Her mother shook her head and bent down to wrap her arms around the girl. "It's better...." she insisted.
The child pushed her mother away and crossed her arms over her chest. "Why are you trying to separate us...?!" she nearly shouted. "Well, it won't work! I'm going too! Hikari and I are going to always stay together!"[/blockquote]
