She could almost reach it. Just a little more, and she would have it. If she were a foot and a few inches taller, that is.
"Chat! Petit chat! Descendre, s'il vous plaît!"
The feathery twig she had picked up and now twirled feet below the feline's face did little to entice it. Anxi swayed on her toes, trying all she could to attract the attention of the cat while avoiding the attention of any nuns or reprimanding students that might walk by. She knew well that cats couldn't understand human speech, much less French, especially since she was in Japan, but it was worth a try. The little London dove had taken a walk after the campus's Church services on Sunday. Dressed in her usual orange, frilled Sunday dress, she had been humming a quaint little tune, when she had noticed a black blur out of the corner of her eye; a peculiar movement. A cat on the Astraea campus! What joy and chance for a little adventure it had seemed, that was, until she had found herself struggling to coax it down from the tree. This was holy ground, much more, one of dignified, elegant ladies. The nuns would probably boil the poor little beast if they found it soiling the campus with its dirty little paws and fleas. Black cats were also seen as bad omens to some. She wondered if the nuns thought of them so. Anxi wished not that to happen to the cat, so here she was, struggling and endeavoring to the best of her ability to call the feline down.
But then what? She hadn't thought of that yet and wouldn't until she got the creature down. Her childish face twisted into one of slight frustration after a while, though it was overcome by concentration and concern. If she didn't get it down, it might come down on its own, and there would be an even greater risk of a nun stumbling upon it! It was her duty as a little princess to save all creatures, especially cats, of which she had great fondness for. Many a time the stray creatures kept her warm in the orphanage. She would sneak them in, feed them, nurture them, and curl up for warmth with them under the thin blankets she was sometimes provided. That would be, however, until the headmistress discovered them and tossed the creatures out on the streets and gave her a harsh punishment, not that she cared much about the negative consequence concerning herself. All animals had to be taken care of, whether you were a kind-hearted princess or not.
Gasping for breath from the excursion, the young Miator girl soon slumped against the tree in exhaustion, casting a weary glance up at the feline that stared back at her with narrowed golden eyes. What could she do? She needed to get the cat down! She would stay here all day if she had too. She was tired, but just like a young girl smitten with fairytales would dream, the tale of puss in boots suddenly popped into her mind. The boot-wearing cat hadn't been one with black fur, but it could still apply to the little daydream. A young princess trying to coax the law-bidding cat down from a tree when he had no intent from coming down. Maybe he was surveying the land for any wrong-doers? Or perhaps looking for another giant monster to trick to turn into a mouse and gobble up? Well, it all depended on the version of the story, but she let a giggle tinkle out anyways. Childish eyes swept around her surroundings. At this point, she would need someone to come along. Someone perhaps who knew how to climb a tree or was tall enough to reach. Anxi rocked back on to her feet and reached up again for the feline, receiving a cold glare from the miniature black panther. For now, she would just have to keep trying!
