The more she talked about school, the more she got fired up. She decided it was best to let topics like that go for now, which was an odd decision for someone who literally made every moment of her life a challenge. She was sitting here eating the seventh hottest thing naturally growing in the world for kicks, and she was deciding that the company was worth more than the fight for once. Perhaps this is what friends were like here. She had forgotten the feeling, aside from a pen pal here or there, but it was so very hard to contact anyone inside Vincenness. Once you leave, it's as if the place doesn't exist. You can't call in, emails are heavily blacklisted, the campus itself has strict internet usage that prohibits social media in every way, and there was no direct line on the inside for her to use.
"I'd say you did a great job." she commented about Tori's desire to remain objectively beautiful. "And I appreciate you fighting with me as well. I'll need every supporter I can get. Especially friends."
The comment that came next regarded her attire. Heh. She should have worn her suave gentleman's suit today.
"I can't promise you that you'll have strength to stand if you see my more masculine attire." she smirked. "But I'd be willing to test it out when we do this again."

Thus devoted to fighting by the Lioness' side when the time came, Tori rethought their upcoming competition which had been set during the encounter in the Rose Garden. At first she had merely seen a girl who sprinkled French words into her speech and bristled at the way the princes had been treating her cub. A girl who would therefore be a perfect challenge for Spica's resident Englishwoman, its Queen of queens. Now they were sharing a casual lunch consisting of one of the world's spiciest foods, talking about politics and complimenting one another's sophistication. So it wasn't really a heated competition between two rivals now. More like a friendly competition between two elites seeking to push each other to the limit of their capabilities in order to better each other. Neither of the girls Tori had begun to fall for in the past had offered that, though neither had she been looking for it. It was fortunate that she'd been in the right place at the right time to come across Raion Honoo.
"I respect your competitive spirit, your sophistication and dedication as much as I respect your beauty and intelligence, Lion d'Incendie. You won my support when we met in the forest, actually. It may be difficult to believe but I have had difficulties in the recent past which made me question my position in the world of Spica. I wasn't certain that I belonged there after.. those incidents I mentioned, though those happened outside of anything related to Spica itself. However they made me feel very isolated and alone in the world, but.. now I'm certain that I belong at Spica. It's thanks to you," Tori confessed, feeling it appropriate to bring out more information on what she'd been going through. Raion could be trusted with that information.
"Then I shall eagerly look forward to the next time we have an outing like this. I will plan on dressing more formally to match whatever you have in mind.. a Queen must keep up appearances, as I stated before," Tori added with a smile, truly grateful to have this girl in her life.

In her own way, Raion was trying to show some sort of affection for her friend. She wasn't so great at it, but she would try nonetheless. The more she spoke of her prior encounters, the more Raion was both intrigued and concerned. Despite her strange unease, she kept her attention firm. It was like there was something nagging at her in the back of her head that she wasn't capable of hearing, but it had an uneasy effect on her nonetheless. Easy enough to ignore such a basic problem though.
"It's hard to take a compliment like that without turning red, so please forgive me if I am." she joked, only about half certain she was joking. "But I'm glad you've got your spirit back. it wouldn't be fair to beat an opponent who didn't have her heart in it."
Perhaps it was time to try that one thing. making connections or something. Bonding? yeah, that.
"Whoever those two in the past were are of an inferior breed to not see what they've left behind. I'll take you out some night and help you find anice boy. I'll personally see to his pedigree." she stated as if it were a threat. "Tora can come too, I'm sure he knows some gentlemen."

Friendship with Lion d'Icendie was proving to be a little odder than with others, Tori resolved. There was the competitive aspect to be sure, but more than that she'd taken the opportunity to offer her assistance ni finding a proper romantic partner for Tori. Given what was said about her Tori wasn't sure she agreed with Raion's assessment of her situation. Losing both girls who'd been close to winning her heart had hurt very much and continued to hurt time she thought about it. They'd gotten together though and at least thinking about them together, happy, lessened her pain to some degree. She could be sure they were in good hands wherever they'd ended up. After encouraging one to pursue the other she'd lost track of them and had very little motivation to get in touch with either again. Offering to help Tori find someone - a boy no less - was strange of Raion and completely unnecessary but the girl seemed very determined. Rather than let the girl get too far ahead of herself with this matchmaker obsession, Tori decided to see what she could do to change the subject.
"I don't think that extent of devotion will be quite necessary, though I do appreciate your offer. I would do the same for you were the tables turned," Tori responded, a wistful smile crossing her face as she further admitted, "But finding a gentleman for me will not be necessary, for I have someone who has caught my attentions. I'm not sure if they'll accept my affection but time will tell. If you want to help me with that, just pray that they realize I have taken a liking to them."
Then she finished off her dish and wiped the tears away which were caused by the pepper's spiciness, "Hopefully I've chosen them well. I've made some mistakes in the past about whom to shower with affection and it has gotten me into far more trouble than I ever wanted. This time it feels different, but doesn't it always feel different? Each case is its own unique set of circumstances which we must adapt to. Don't you think?"

It was interesting to know for sure, but the idea that Tori had an interest was somewhat unexpected all the same. She rarely left campus right? Where did she meet this boy, whoever he was? He must be a magnificent man to have attracted her, as Raion was getting the impression that Tori was a bit of a perfectionist in most of her choices about other people, or was at the very least far more sensitive about such things now than she had been in the past. Sure, then, this man was a gallant knight of a man.
"I bet he's as chivalrous as they come." she joked. "But I'm sure he'll realize it eventually. Until then, just stay strong." a small shake of her head found itself then. "I know little about romance, but I know endurance counts, and that goes for hope as well."
She completed her meal and let herself sigh in content, savoring the moment, before she decided it was time to stealth repay the favor as well as get the topic into happier places.
"I do agree." she nodded. "But I think I don't know my own heart well enough to make a proper debate about it either way. What I do know is that a Queen should be treated as such, so I'm going to walk you around and we're going to find you something nice. It'll be our little symbol of our friendship." a genuine smile came to her, and she went to pull out Tori's chair. "Right, milady?"

Confusing Tori's orientation was something that was probably to be expected of the general public. Word got around Astraea Hill fast that she had been flirting with teachers, nuns and various girls during her first year at Spica. Somehow Raion had not picked up on those rumors, quite possibly because she was new to the school and may not have very many contacts there. It wouldn't be difficult to explain herself and correct that misconception. However that might lead the cunning lioness to deduce whom Tori was speaking of when she said that she had her eyes on someone. Recent experiences had taught her t be wary of having such information slip out in a public place since not all girls were going to see her that way. Raion might not either. Creeping doubts said she might wholesale reject the idea of romantic involvement with the Queen, but something told Tori that would likely not be the case. However it might make the rest of their outing awkward and she wanted this day to continue being pleasant so it could all end on a high note.
"They are most certainly a heroic person, chivalrous to boot and very prideful. Exactly the sort of person a Queen would be interested in, my dear. But you're correct," Tori replied with a nod, "Time and perseverance will lead me to the goal of winning them over. I hope. Likely it will be as certain as the statement that Britain shall prevail!"
Tori laughed, then stood up once her chair had been pulled out, "A symbol of our friendship? I very much look forward to seeing what Lion d'Icendie has in mind for such a token. If you lead I shall follow and eagerly await the shopping we're about to embark upon."
Then she winked and added, "Also, the proper term would be Your Majesty. I'll settle for milady though. It has a wonderful ring to it when you speak it... and that smile makes you all the prettier. I look forward to seeing it more often if fate should have that in store for me."

She wasn't even honestly sure why she took such a formal speech pattern around Tori. She didn't do that around the others, in fact she came off as pretty rough around the edges. Either way it wasn't like she minded it, just something she noted of herself in that moment when the exchange about terminology took place. She remained silent for a moment trying to think of the right words to say in response. What indeed would be a good gift?
"I'm sure you'll be seeing that more often. After all, I don't plan on leaving you alone now that you've got my friendship." she said, calmly confirming a slight clinginess that she knowingly perpetuated. She also had no idea where to take the conversation from there, feeling a that slight unease come to the surface again. It was easy enough to repress with a quick change in topic.
"I'll probably be hopping over to the sports store for some compression gear on my way home too. You don't have to come for that if you don't want, that can be pretty boring."
Raion, quick, get back on the gift.
"I think I have an idea in mind for you already, too. I'll need your favorite color, as silly a question as that is to ask a person."

A promise of further smiles to come from the redhead electrified Tori's imagination as perhaps nothing else the girl could do short of more romantic gestures. Raion was a very pretty girl and she looked her best when smiling as she had just moments before. She was equally elated by the promise of seeing much more of the lioness now that they had forged the bonds of friendship. Clinginess was not something that Tori minded at all when it came to girls, especially not cute ones whom she could flirt with and compliment! Spending the day at the mall looking for a proper gift for herself with such a girl was always a promising prospect for the Queen. Raion was more forceful and confident than some of the other girls she'd spent extensive time with, but that brought with it a unique set of challenges which she'd feel challenged by and thus better herself.
"I'm quite pleased to hear that you will not leave me alone, actually. It would sadden to be away from you for any prolonged period, honestly. Who else could match my competitive fire and aristocratic bearing?" Tori responded with a smile of her own, rewarding one prize for another.
Then she just laughed, "Do not worry about boring me, my dear. Have you forgotten that I too am an athlete, and as such may be interested in what a sporting goods store might have on offer? I will be happy to accompany you to that store as well as any others."
Then she gave the question some thought before answering, "I'm partial to most colors, to be honest. However my favorite is undoubtedly red, as it is the color of an Englishwoman's jacket."

She had a point. Raion would likely not be judged too much for her adventures in sporting goods. She needed gear for a thread she's got open at the corral, so we can assume this thread happens before that one-- Wait, no, stop talking author.
"Excellent choice." she responded to the color. "I've definitely got it picked out then."
Her enthusiasm for this was pretty great, but Raion was also a woman of simple pleasures. It would be hard to really pinpoint her exact gift idea, but for now she lead Tori about with linked arms, confusion about the unease she felt still rioting through her as if her body's football team had just lost. She was just hanging out, what was there to be so uneasy about? Well, whatever, she pushed that thought aside and continue to window shop, store to store, until her attention settled in on a small jewelry store. She held no hesitation on going inside, and immediately picked out a small gold chain with a heart shaped red gem inside a weave that looked similar to the roots of a tree as a pendant. it hung unusually low for a necklace, but that was the idea. She didn't even ask permission before purchasing it, and getting it the proper box for such an item.
"Etoile pendants can't compare to this. Lion D'incendie to Reine des étudiants, a symbol of pride and power all the same. Might I bestow it upon your majesty?"

Once her preference of color had been accepted Tori was escorted by the Lioness of Vincennes through the mall to whatever store they were headed for first. She was quite the expert on flirtation with girls, but somehow the redhead managed to catch her off guard. Stealth in flirting had never been Tori's strong suit until very recently and even now she was having a hard time adjusting to the idea of doing things that way. Raion linked arms with her, making the Queen blush for the first time in the girl's presence. It was very difficult to fluster the Queen but her comapnion had managed to accomplish that rather impressive feat. Quickly enough she covered it up with a smile and pressed the issue by pulling herself closer to the girl's arm. Close proximity to the girl made it worth the flustering and mental blustering the Englishwoman endured. They were already closer now than when the day had begun, and she could see how maybe the lioness might end up falling for her despite a lack of awareness about the possibility of falling for a girl.
When the girl picked out her gift, it seemed rather more spendy than a mere token would be. Not that Tori was going to complain about the quality of the gift, of course not. Yet she was concerned that the girl might be spending more than she'd intended to just to impress a Queen. In this case Tori was actually concerned about the means by which a gift for her was acquired, since Raion was close to her. However she blushed a little again at the pendant which Raion purchased for her - shaped like a heart and a vibrant British red in color. It was a heavenly gift presented to her by a girl who had captured her imagination. How lovely! Tori nodded quietly as Raion asked for her assent to put the necklace on her, fighting the blush back in order to look more regal in bearing as it was fastened into place. Once it was on Tori reached up to finger the pendant, smiling at how it shined in the light and at the tree root motif. This was the planting of a relationship between them which she greatly hoped would grow into a mighty tree just as those roots promised.
"It is truly wonderful, my dear," she responded quietly before fully regaining her composure and linking arms again, "I'm honored to have it bestowed upon me as a bond between two noble ladies who happened to meet in odd yet fortuitous circumstances. As it is now a treasure of Spica's Queen, I will treasure it always. Thank you... Raion."

As everything transpired, she felt herself twinge a bit in something she didn't understand, and brushed it off as best as she could. Still, something about hearing her name from Tori made her feel heated in the face. She didn't register it as a blush and so she made no effort to hide it, probably due to the fact that she was preoccupied with pride for picking out the proper gift. Sure, it probably cost more than lunch by, well, a margin. But it was worth it. Her gratitude was satisfying and she felt like she made the right decision in spending the money. Overall, very little to complain about, aside from the twisting feeling in her stomach. It wasn't the food either, no, it felt different somehow. Like a light feeling that still made her uncomfortable. Not hunger, but not quite indigestion. It was nice, actually, but she had no idea what was going on, so she had to assume she was catching something and it was starting to affect her.
This wasn't too different from how she felt around Tora actually. It was more pleasant, but she definitely remembered feeling twists like this sometimes around him. How curious.
"Ah... I was here the other day and saw these, and I was reminded of you." she mused, going back in her mind to when she helped Kisumi pick out a gift for her savior. She hadn't even registered that she had seen the item at the time, but subconsciously she must have if she knew exactly where it was and that it would be nice for her friend.
"It's my pleasure to allow her highness to continue feeling as wonderful as she is." she allowed herself a small giggle, and lowered her head unconsciously to watch her footing as they walked, making certain not to trip. An oddly specific gesture.
"So, where would you like to go next?"

While unbeknownst to Tori the redhead felt odd sensations, the Englishwoman was doing her best to let past affections go. All of this had started drudging up memories of meeting two different girls in her first year, both of whom were somewhere beyond her reach now. Usually when she felt this way around someone she was the one leading the way. With Momo it had been swooping in to rescue her from the 'danger' of hay, then offering to protect her. When she'd found she kind of liked an aristocratic girl as well, she had been the one to make the move first. That wasn't how things were with Raion and she wondered if that might explain why this felt so different from those other two relationships. For the first time at Spica she had someone else leading the way on a pair outing and it was completely fine all things considered. She was getting the feeling that she didn't want to let this girl go now that they were friends, this might be her last chance at anything beyond a friendship. Patience was a general virtue and persistence a British one. Slowly but surely she'd work her way into the Lioness' heart and hopefully win it over rather than push it away.
Tori giggled herself at the redhead, "There is no denying it then, you have excellent taste. Not that this is surprising to learn about you. Thank you for remembering such a lovely item as the one which now graces my royal neck. It is not simply a British red, it is a shade which symbolizes the one and only Lion d'Icendie isn't it? That gives its presentation even more meaning."
Where next? Tori found herself blushing a little more as the redhead expressed her pleasure in allowing the Queen to continue feeling as wonderful as she was. Usually Tori dished out the compliments quite liberally, but now she was on the receiving end. It felt a little disarming, yet in a good way that let her maintain her composure and bearing. She noticed how Raion seemed to be watching where she was stepping - extra care not to trip, or averting the eyes out of embarrassment? The Englishwoman thought it might be some kind of specific gesture related to a change in how Raion felt. Not a negative one either. Tori decided she owed the girl a little more than lunch in return for the pendant, so she made up her mind where they ought to go next.
"Would you like to go to the cinema? It might be quite the enjoyable way to pass extra time together in a very relaxed manner," Tori offered, armed with other possibilities if the girl said no to this.

There was a pause then, when her title was brought up as the color of choice's inspiration. There was a pretty idea, yes, but it was more or less a wild chance. Raion wasn't thinking about it that way, she just wanted to return a favor in secret.
"I suppose so, but I'd argue it represents the passion with which you fight for things, and the roots of that passion embracing it anew."
Her won words testified against her when they came, as she had no idea of her intentions herself. She just wanted to get Tori a gift. Repaying a favor was her excuse yes. And as far as Raion knew, that was all there was to that. She had no understanding of her own thoughts in that moment though, or what they meant, but she could only bring herself to want to be around her friend. A feeling of protection as well, like she was one of the cubs, but it was more than that. This was no cub. More like an equal that she felt protective over anyway, for whatever reason that may have been. And then this equal proposed a movie. A movie after lunch, this sure was ringing bells but she had no way of putting a finger to the idea. Her mind was too focused on avoiding itself to think about it, so she agreed without delay.
"That sounds fun. Yo pick the movie." she offered, as if issuing another challenge. 'what is my ideal genre?' was the undertone, and she would give no hints.

"Anything truly beautiful is open to interpretation in many different ways, and this is a great example of that. One may gaze upon this heart and see fiery passion, the inspiration of the one who presented the gift in the first place or any number of things," Tori responded with a shrug of her shoulders.
It was true, there were quite a few different ways you could look at the pendant that now rested around her neck. Her own had just been one particular way it looked to her based on the feelings she had around the liness. Passionate though they were, their origin may not actually be founded in her will to fight for things. The Queen accepted it was being something she couldn't totally define at the moment beyond the limitations their current relationship presented. Sure she wanted to see it grow into much more but she wasn't about to push it too hard. Though they were more or less equals she felt as if she didn't have to prove anything to Raion. Challenging each other would suffice to prove her worth, but she didn't need to go out of her way to prove herself to the redhead out of nowhere. Royal bearing was perfectly fine, but she could relax a little now that she was getting to know the girl well. Honestly that was all kind of confusing, but she managed to make enough sense out of it that she was able to continue on. Just in time to have the lioness issue her another challenge, this time about what sort of movie she would want to see.
"It will be my privilege to select the film we are to view. Place your trust in the Queen and you shall never be disappointed," Tori responded with a grin, leading the way to the small cinema in the mall and looking over the multitude of fliers advertising movies when they arrived. Her eyes took in a good number of them, debating which might better suit the redhead's interests. This was an important decision, one that might help her get a little farther toward her goals.
While she did that she asked, "Will you be wanting popcorn or a drink for the film? I've heard they carry more than one variety of popcorn, too. However it's up to you whether we really need snacks to enjoy with the film."

There was a lot she had to look forward to with this for sure. But she couldn't shake the feeling that she had done this before somewhere. Certainly not back home, they didn't have this luxury there. And she hadn't made friends here until very recently. It was perplexing her, but she kept thinking of Tora. She almost missed the question of snacks entirely and would have if not for the brief moment of break from her own thoughts that came to her when she drew a blank.
"A-ah... I think I'll be okay. Any of this stuff and I'd have to do an extra 50 crunches and probably another 3 kilometers." she nervously bowed. "Thank you though."
Nervousness was not her normal. What was this? It was painted all over her face that she was having a moment in her head, but a moment of what? Quick, Raion, what was the last thing you did with Tora? He's who you keep thinking of. You had lunch together, and then he got sick-- Before that? They did something similar at his temporary home. He made her lunch and they watched an old movie--
Date.
This was a date wasn't it? Or at least it had the makings of one. Immediately she turned red with realization and hid it(poorly) by standing mere millimeters in front of Tori. Just enough that she was still at her side but also enough that she hoped(and failed) to hide her redness. No, that couldn't be. Dates were between couples. Tori wanted one before, but that was for fun wasn't it? So what was this then? And if this was a date... Wouldn't that mean she was cheating on Tora? The questions came rapid fire and no answers alongside them. Raion didn't understand why this was such a hard concept either, especially since she herself didn't see real romance between girls happening. This had to just be hanging out. But if that was the case, was Tora also just a casual friend? Either she was on a date and cheating, or wasn't on a date and her fiance was less important than she thought. Either way, she was stuck, and she hated that feeling.
Seeing no way out other than to go along with it and hope answers came, she turned on her fire again and she pushed back her blush with passion. Passion to see this through regardless of what the answer was, because as long as she got one, she could work with it from there.
"I trust her highness with any decision." she said after a pause. "So don't be shy, show me what you enjoy."
