"Pride certainly has its place, do not misunderstand me on that. As the Queen of Spica I would not be where I am without a great deal of personal pride," Tori responded with a measured tone, trying to avoid making this conversation too impassioned, "A successful lady measures and balances the virtues of her relationships. On the one hand we have personal pride which drives a woman onward and leads her to great deeds. On the other we have the humility to accept the support of others, even if we are in overall command of how any group undertaking is approached. This is a difficult balance to maintain, and I fall more on the side of pride than I ought to. But if we were capable of handling everything ourselves we would not need anyone to teach us the basics of fencing, tennis or horsemanship, would we?"
Becoming friends was more serious a matter than Tori might have anticipated if Raion's words were any indication. She did not hesitate to agree to the proposal but there was some underlying aspect which made it more than just people with similar interests agreeing to be friends. Something to do with her old school.. that French style school which she had attended before transferring to Spica. If becoming this girl's friend was a serious matter then Tori would treat it just as seriously. Making light of it would disrespect the girl she'd come to admire, and nothing stung a prideful lady quite like being disrespected. So Tori listened intently before hearing that the girl had a fiancee with whom she'd had lunch. That explained the ring theory and confirmed Tori's suspicions that the redhead was in an arranged marriage situation herself. The blonde sighed at that - it would make it more difficult to win the girl over in a way deeper than friendship just by existing. Yet she wasn't attracted to this person by the sound of it, so Tori knew she had a wonderful chance at achieving her goal with this girl.
"I take full responsibility for it," Tori responded with a nod, then promised, "That information will remain with me and not be shared with a soul. You have my word as Queen and as an Englishwoman that I will keep this secret.. but if you are offering me one, then it's only fair I offer you one in return."
Tori took a deep breath before telling her, "I've had two people I've been very attracted to in the past year, and both have turned me away in favor of another person. It's been difficult to deal with, but at least they ended up with one another. Two rejections at once was a considerable blow to my pride though. It's not as big of a secret as yours, but it's not something I've shared with anyone."
