Tender caramel hands caressed the last shimmering snowy head of the season. A small red teacup rose, dwarfed by the snow dusted skeletons of its decaying comrades, was the only flowery face to survive the length of winter so far. The snows flurrying touch had been like poison to the roses; seeping into their roots and chilling them from the inside out. It was just a matter of time until this one came to the same fate as all the others. The thought struck a sentimental; chord within the student's heart.
Lumi's emerald gaze beheld the roses in a sort of glazed sympathy. In spring they would surely return, but only to face the same decaying fate in the winter. A never ending cycle of death and rebirth... Or so it seemed to her. With one l last gentle caress, she withdrew her hand from the rose's head and pushed herself to her feet; she hadn't realized she had been kneeling the whole time she had been out here. This had been her last gift to the dying roses of winter. It was well into the evening, and streaks of blended pink and orange tinged with the purple blanket of night danced across the sky. Maybe it was best she went inside now? A chilly wind whipped through the hair, urging on her decision. It would only get colder out here as the night prowled closer. She turned to leave, but found herself back on the snowy ground when she accidentally crashed into someone. Who would be out this late? "I am terribly sorry, please forgive me." She stumbled over her soft words.
(...I hope this is alright as well!)

The Rose Garden. Filled with flowers of a multitude of colours and scents. Or at least it would have been, had it not been the middle of winter, and everywhere was coated with snow. Of course, that didn't mean that the Rose Garden wasn't still filled with flowers of a multitude of colours, but of a different sort.
It was these different flowers that had attracted Etain to the Rose Garden in the middle of winter. Of course, she loved looking at the roses and other flowers, but nothing could beat the sight of such wondrous and beautiful flowers as those which graced the halls and grounds of Astraea Hill with their radiance. However, at this moment in time, there weren't many "flowers" wondering around, as it was, even to Etain, slightly chilly. She was about to give up and head to somewhere warm, like where ever Esther was, when something bumped into her.
Etain, with her training, managed to keep her balance. Though that didn't stop her from stumbling back a couple of steps. She managed to keep her balance, then had to spend a moment brushing her long red hair from her eyes, before she could get a look at what, or rather who she had bumped into. Then they spoke. And Etain couldn't help but smile at the voice. She managed to get her hair out of her eyes and looked at who it was.
'And what have you done that would require you to ask my forgiveness?' Etain asked, smiling down at the purple haired beauty on the ground. 'It should be me apologising to you for knocking you to the ground.' She bowed, her long red hair draping over her shoulder, almost reaching the ground. 'I apologise, from the bottom of my heart, for knocking a beautiful lady, such as yourself, to the ground.' She held her hand out to the girl, to help her up. 'My name's Etain, Etain Adair,' she introduced herself. 'And may I be so bold as to ask your name?'

Emerald orbs snapped open to a girl graced by a crown of dazzling cherry hair. She was beautiful silhoutetted aganist the wintry evening sky and possessed a formal etiquette of speaking that was enough to suffuse the girl's tan face with a faint rosy tinge. Lumi found herself stunned by the red haired girl. Was a person such as herself even worthy of speaking to such a girl? A generous hand was extended next, only further broadening the extent of the internal question. She wasn't at all worthy of it. Yet not accepting it would set her off as rude. And rude she absolutely was not. A caramel hand reached hesitantly out to take the paler hand. The curled fingers uncoiled in slow uncertainty and all so gently wrapped around the girl's hand. Etain, was it? A lovely name. Lumi figured an exchange was required, and averted her green orbs as her caramel lips parted slightly in preparation for speech. "Lumi...Lumisade Shirokawa." Her introduction came out a little less confident than she originally intended. Maybe the girl wouldn't notice... "Pleased to make your acquaintance, Miss Adair, though I don't think I am quite worthy to be in your presence." She added with the start of an abashed smile. (Thank you so much for posting! )

The girl she had knocked over had wonderful green eyes, and the blush that coloured her cheek brought a smile to Etain's lips, and confirmed what she already knew. This girl was cute! She could tell that the girl was nervous and wasn't sure if she should take her hand. Well, even if she didn't take her hand, Etain wouldn't mind. It took a lot to upset the redhead.
But the girl did take her hand and, with a smile and a gentle tug, she help the girl to stand. Then the girl spoke, and her voice was just as beautiful as Etain knew it would be! 'Lumisade?' She like the way the name felt. But the way Limisade has introduced herself said, to Etain, that she wasn't confident in herself. Well, if there was one thing Etain like more than meeting cute girls, it was helping cute girls who weren't confident. And that's what she was going to do here! 'Lumisade. That's a beautiful name, for a beautiful girl,' she said with a wink. 'And my name is Etain, not Miss Adair. That's my mother!' She couldn't help but chuckle. 'And you're more than worthy to be in my presence. If anything, I'm the one unworthy to e in your radiant presence.' Etain bowed, brought Lumisade's hand to her lips and planted a light, gentle kiss on the back of her hand. She straightened and smiled at the purplette.
(You're more than welcome Lumi! ^_^ )

When Lumi was pulled to her feet, she instantly dropped into a low bow of gratitude, purple threads of her coiled hair slipping slightly from the tight braid wrapped around her head. Her name rolled off the girl's tongue, alongside a compliment and a wink that only darkened the blush scorching her cheeks. Beautiful? Lumi didn't really find herself to even be close to that, let alone even pleasing to the eye. "Thank you for the compliment, but I don't think "beautiful" is the right word for me..." She began. The red haired beauty then corrected her name, and Lumi couldn't stop herself from blushing in embarrassment. She was getting corrected a lot lately. "Ah, haha, yes, my apologies."
And then the girl did something she didn't expected. She kissed the back of her hand. Was she even entitled to accept it? Lumi wasn't sure how to react for a moment. She let her frozen features gradually melt into a ghost of a soft smile after a second; a wisp from mirroring the other girl's own. This girl seemed to be a kind confident one. Maybe even a little flirtatious. But she certainly didn't seem malicious. Not that Lumi would react aggressively if she were. She was a vessel of herself; an unworthy being, in her opinion, with no personal strives, that served no purpose but to tend to and please others. While giving compliments might be one of her fortes, receiving them certainly was not something she was used to. "I believe your radiance greatly exceeds mine, miss A- ah, Etain... That is, if I have any radiance at all... If anyone is the beautiful one here, it is certainly you." She countered softly.

'Oh, sweetie,' Etain began. 'Beautiful doesn't begin to do you justice.' She placed her hands on Lumi's shoulders and, gently stood her up straight. 'A beautiful girl such as yourself,' she went on, brushing some of the purple hair back into place. 'Should never put herself down.' When she was sure the hair was secured, she looked into Lumi's eyes and smiled. 'Okay? And don't apologise,' she said with a chuckle. 'Unless you do something really wrong. Like, say, you were to suddenly kiss me.' Etain paused, the shook her head. 'But then, being kissed by a beautiful girl such as you can never be wrong, so you'd still have no need to apologise,' she finished with a wink.
And that was what Etain liked to see! Beautiful girls, smiling. It made her so happy to see shy, quiet girls smile. 'That's more like it,' she said, beaming at Lumi. 'A glorious smile to make your beauty even more radiant.' When the girl began to put herself down, Etain quickly placed a finger on Luni's lips, quieting her. 'Now, I won't hear of such nonsense. You? Not radiant? Lumi, sweetie, you have enough radiance for the both of us, with plenty to spare. Look around you.' Etain removed her finger, and used both hands to indicate the flowerbeds all around them. 'Even at the hight of spring, you'd still be the most beautiful flower here.'

Lumi could hardly believe what she was hearing. She didn't find herself anything close to beautiful at all, yet this girl found her absolutely beyond that. More beautiful than the flowers even. Well, when the flowers were alive. She was sure her entire face was dyed in blush by the time the girl had finished her whole explanation and had lowered her hands to gesture to the flowerbeds. The whole grand lecture had rendered the purple haired student speechless for a while. A complete blushing mess. She wasn't a rose... She could never be. Would never be. She was just an awkward puppet with strings open to whomever desired to take control. Was this girl perhaps pulling her strings? No matter how much she tried to convince herself to believe that, she couldn't put herself off the girl's words. They seemed genuine, yet...
How was she to respond to them? She hadn't the slightest idea. No one had ever regarded her in such a royal way... In fact, she wasn't sure anyway had ever regarded her like that at all. She didn't even know if she could accept them let alone hear them. "I..." Her voice trailed off. What was she to say to all that? Was she even in any worthy position to respond? Her mind was reeling. It made her feel a little dizzy. She severed her gaze momentarily from the red haired beauty's to let it rest on the single living rose she had been previously tending to. Looking at it soothed her racing heart and mind, and she tried her best to regain her crumbled composure.
"I... Th-Thank you, Etain..." She responded uncertainly when she had relocated her voice. The beginning of a warm smile ghosted slightly across caramel lips. She hadn't intended to smile; it just sort of happened. Her unconfident and insecure nature once more desired to counter the shower of compliments, but she found herself unable to trust the entirety of her voice at the moment. It had left her a bit tongue-tided and stunned. Not to mention accented by a bright contrasting blush.

Seeing the blush spread across almost the entirety of Lumi's face made Etain's heart glad. The fact that the girl wasn't able to speak just added to that fact. 'And there we go,' Etain said, stroking Lumi's blushing cheeks. 'Just like a rose.' Her smile grew as she watched Lumi trying to form words, her blush deepening.
Etain reached out, placed a steadying hand on her arm. 'There's no need to thank me,' she said. 'Just seeing you smile is thanks enough.' Then a smile played across Lumi's lips. 'And there we go,' she said. 'That's what I want to see.' She glanced to the side, and spotted a single living rose. 'Did you do that?' she asked, turning her gaze back to Lumi. 'Did you keep that rose alive?' She smiled. 'Not just a beautiful face, but a beautiful heart as well.'

The closeness and all the physical contact... Was this really alright? The question hung heavily in her mind. She was much too dazed at the moment to dwell on it for long however. This girl was quite the charmer. Not to mention really pretty too. The purple haired girl wondered if perhaps she was popular among Astrea. It was certainly possible, but Lumi didn't know too much about the students of Astrea to assign any sort of confident concluding label yet.
Etain's gaze suddenly flickered from her to a different direction, and Lumi couldn't help but blush a little deeper. She knew well what had captured her attention. It was the small rose she had previously been caring for. That one little rose that had survived the harsh of the winter. It was dying now, like all flowers did, but it made the girl content to now she could at least have prolonged its life just a little longer. Although, it was probably lonely now. Dusted with snow and surrounded by the decayed skeletons of its once lively friends. She almost felt bad for keep it alive while all of its friends had died, but even so, the rose appeared joyous regardless; its thickly petaled head swaying in the wintry breeze as if waving in greeting.
"I wanted to give it a chance to live...although it's all alone now and will probably die soon." She spoke warmly of the rose; almost as if it was once a dear friend. One could say that flowers, especially roses, were like a friend to the girl. For it was only among their mute flowery presence that she felt most secure. Most accepted. Most alive... "I sought to keep it company until the end." She added, hoping it didn't sound too strange. Though was it true? Did she really have a beautiful heart? Perhaps, yet she would regard it as nothing more than an act of good will. The rose had desired to stay strong and live, and she had acknowledged it. After all, roses were living beings, too, even if they could not communicate in a way identical to that of a human .

The girl wasn't entirely comfortable with the closeness and the contact. Though, Etain thought, she didn't dislike either. But she didn't want to scare the girl, so she stepped back slightly, lowered her hands. 'You must be new,' she said. 'There's noway I could have missed such a cute and beautiful girl as you.'
Looking back at Lumisade, Etain noticed she was blushing again. But she didn't say anything, the girl was flustered enough, so she just smiled. 'That's so sweet,' she said, smiling at Lumisade. 'But it's not alone, is it? I mean, you've been here for it, right? So it's not alone.' She looked at the rose and smiled. She bent down and brushed some of the snow from the roses petals. 'There we go. Now your colours can shine out, amongst the stark white of winter,' she whispered, running a finger along one of the petals. She stood, smiled down at the rose, then turned to Lumi. 'Do you want to go somewhere warmer, or would you like to stay here for a moment longer?' she asked, glancing at the rose again.

Emerald eyes followed the girl as she stepped back. The distance allowed a layer of rosy suffusion to drain from Lumi's face, but it was instantly reignited when Etain spoke again. She nodded in silent response. Though she had been at Astrea for a couple of months now, one could say she was still relatively new. She still lacked the entirety of the knowledge of all the locations on Astrea save for a seldom few. Not that she couldn't find her way to specific area if required.
And then Etain knelt to touch the rose. It elicited a warmer smile to form across Lumi's lips. To see another express kindness to the lone flower... That made her delighted. "I guess it hasn't been alone." She responded warmly. She watched as the other brushed a light dusting of snow from the rose's flowery crown, revealing its resplendent beauty. Even if it was wilting, it hadn't failed to preserve its cheery hue. An admiral rose, it was. A solitary colorful solider silhouetted against the winter. Its perseverance was almost honorable. Hopefully with a little more care it would live a longer if only just a bit. It would inevitably have to die just like its surrounding graveyard of friends. Wilt to give the unique chance of life to another in the spring.
The girl soon stood and faced her once more, gracing the little rose with a kind smile. It was heartwarming to see another girl being so kind to it. Lumi pondered over the question she was next asked. While she desired to keep the rose company for a few moments more, it was getting late, not to mention colder, and it probably wouldn't be that beneficial to stay outside too long into the night in the middle of the snow. Though to Lumi, it would make no difference. She had ventured out here many a late night to tend to the rose and sometimes didn't return to the warm security of the dormitories until much later. Sometimes she had even fallen asleep outside with it only to awake covered in a dusting sheet of snow. But this time she had to be mindful of another. She had clumsily crashed into her, after all. "Someplace warmer might be most ideal. It's getting a little cold out here." She replied with a glance up at the star splattered sky. It looked like velvet now. "That is, if that is alright with you, Etain." She added quickly.

'I thought so,' Etain said with a smile. The way Lumi was blushing made Etain want to hug her, she was so cute! But the redhead restrained herself, as she didn't want the girl to faint. 'If you need a guide, let us know, and I'll do my best to show you around,' she said, before she winked. The offer was genuine, but Etain just couldn't help but turn it into a flirt.
Seeing the joy and delight in Lumi's smile warmed Etain's heart. She could tell that the purplette had put a lot of care into making sure this single rose had lived as long as it had. While she knew the flower wouldn't last much longer, she also knew that it was inevitable, and necessary for those who were to bloom in the coming Spring.
Watching Lumi think about the question made Etain wonder how long the girl had been out here, tending to the rose. The way she looked about made her think she'd spent many a night out here, keeping it company, making sure it was clear of snow. Etain hoped she hadn't been out here for too long each night, especially in this weather. She'd catch her death of cold. When she responded Etain smiled, though she arched an eyebrow as Lumi continued. 'Sweetie, if it wasn't all right with me, I wouldn't have asked, would I?' She turned and offered her arm to Lumi. 'Shall we?' she asked, continuing to smile at her.

An offer accompanied with a flirtatious overtone was presented, making Lumi blush a little more. The rosy heat was almost dizzying. Never before had she ever blushed this much. Would she collapse from it? She hoped not, but never had the experience of confirming the possibility. That would be embarrassing, nonetheless.
Another smile graced the paler girl’s lips, and emerald eyes widened behind dull glasses at another offer. Though this offer was not verbal, but physical. Etain had offered her a generous arm; all the while never permitting that warm smile to evaporate. Lumi glanced at the limb in an almost quizzical way. Did she want her to take it? Most likely, but still, the purple haired student hesitated for a moment. A hesitant caramel hand was finally extended, limp fingers almost tensed in slight anxiety; anxiety of her absence of stopping to question her own worth in regards to accepting the offer. When she managed to take her arm, it was ever so gently, almost insecure in nature, for she feared for a second the girl would reprimand her. But there was no chastisement to fret about. There was only that kind smile, and seeing it reassured her a little. Smiling now too, Lumi bowed her head and looked to the girl. “Thank you, Etain.” She said softly in gratitude.

Seeing how much the other girl was blushing brought a smile to Etain's lips. And a slightly wicked thought to mind. I wonder if I can make her entire face blush? She chuckled slightly at the thought. She knew she wouldn't do that, at least not on purpose, but just seeing Lumi blushing as she was just added to her beauty in Etain's eyes. And it made her want to flirt and tease the purple haired girl more.
Watching Lumi wonder if she should take her arm or not, Etain just stood, smiling at the girl. The red head knew Lumi had a low opinion of herself, and that maybe by offering er her arm, Etain might have pushed it too far, but Etain didn't like seeing girls, such as Lumi, putting themselves down, or having low self-esteem. She felt like she should, had to do something about it. Which is why she said, and did the things she did. She meant every word she said, as she did see all girls as beautiful and cute, inside and out. And she wanted them to see the same in themselves.
Then a hesitant hand reached out, slowly slid around her arm and rested gently on it. With a smile, Etain moved slightly closer to Lumi, not enough to scare her, or make her uncomfortable, but enough to tell her that it was all right for her to hold on tighter, if she wanted. 'Sweetie, it should be me who should be thanking you,' Etain said, resting her free hand on top of Lumi's. 'For giving me the pleasure of accompanying you inside. And for gracing me with your presence for a while longer.' She looked into Lumi's eyes, her own sparkling. 'Now, should we head somewhere warmer, and have that nice warm drink?'

The red haired girl moved closer and rested a hand stop of hers. This only increased the amount of blush layering Lumi's face. She dropped her head a little in a meek attempt to hide it. It was a complete failure - had her hair been down it probably would have worked, but up in its tight rear braided coil up against the back of her head, all of her face was exposed. She wasn't used to blushing this much. Well, she hadn't blushed much before in the past, but nothing had really ever activated the colored heat to paint her face.
"I believe we should." Her response was a bit more confident, though still quieted by the soft depths of her voice. Was it really alright for her to receive all these compliments? It certainly wasn't something she was at all used to, nor was she used to much physical contact, generic or not. But it wasn't all that uncomfortable to her, which she found quite surprising. A girl like her would never lash out or act in defense even if she was uncomfortable with something. Maybe it was a bit of a dangerous flaw, as it made her vulnerable to the worst scenarios, but it was her nature and couldn't be helped.
Somewhere through her tidal wave of internal thoughts, she unconsciously grabbed on a little tighter to the red haired girl's arm. She noticed it almost directly after, however, and almost let go out of realization of her unplanned action. "Ah, I'm sorry." Her glasses flashed as she bowed her head in apology. Another unconscious action. They had been occurring a lot lately, and she often fretted over them due to the fear of upsetting whomever received it. Though Etain didn't really seem like the type to get upset easily. Lumi was still wary, however, as was embedded in her insecure disposition. She looked at the girl in hopes she had not upset her.
