Oh how wonderful it felt to fly! Lira soared over the forest, circling the plateau. She felt like a god as she claimed the sky as her own, gazing down at her immense shadow. Then she remembered yet another Draconian talent. Fire.
She circled around again, and breathed in, feeling the heat already growing in her chest and then let it go. Inwardly she squealed with joy as the flame shot forth, setting half the field ablaze. Then, feeling invincible, she came to land in the midst of it. If arrows did not harm her, then nor would her own fire. She hardly noticed her form slip back to that of a human as she spun, arms out in the fire. It felt warm, not hot, and as the flames licked at her skin she felt as if she were at the mercy of a skilled lover. She smiled and gazed out. Something glimmered and caught her eye. Was that? No..a unicorn? The creature gazed at her from behind an oak tree. Unashamed of her nudity, for she was far greater than any to care, she walked from the flames.
Her earlier resolution to hate unicorns melted as she got closer to it. She could see the white of it's eyes and the poor thing seemed frozen with fear. Lira's dark golden skin, was a sharp contrast against the pure white snout of the creature.
"Shhh," cooed Lira, "you and I are cousins now." she said, calming the creature. She wondered briefly why she had become human, but decided it didn't matter yet. She wouldn't be attending the ball tonight anyway. Full breasts accented her taught belly and long legs, she looked as if she were a tree sprite, or a fairy herself as she lightly stroked the unicorns velvet snout. She marveled at the creatures horn and proceeded to run her finger's through it's mane. "My name is Lira, the dragonlady, and I am greater than any man or lady in Brinzell. You needn't fear me, poor beast, I'm glad I shall never be like you."
Thrae sighed, she felt calm. If this woman were a demon she wouldn't feel so calm in her presence. Or would that be more magic? Some dark craft in the works? The woman introduced herself and said she needn't fear. Thrae couldn't help it. Lira's touch on her snout made her feel dizzy and warm. Oh how she needed a friend. Would this woman know the way back home? She tried to ask, but her mouth was wrong for forming words. The only sound from her was a quiet whinny, like the tinkling of bells.
"Easy there," said Lira, petting her shoulder and mane, "I like you. Come, let us find a place to rest that's out of the sun." Though the heat no longer bothered her she wanted somewhere to sit, drink and lounge and she knew this plateau was littered with caves. Surely they would find one unoccupied. And even so, she was greater. Thrae walked with her gladly, happy to just have company. Maybe this was a dream and she would wake up to Mara's hot porridge any moment.
Lira sang songs as she picked her way through the forest. Thrae was impressed by how easily and naturally she walked and guessed that Lira must be fay, otherwise she would not look so dark or be so comfortable nude, or act so unsurprised at the sight of a unicorn.
The bright afternoon sun faded behind the plateau as the walked in it's shadow. Finally a cave was found that suited Lira's desire and she followed her inside.
"Alas, no water," sighed Lira, "No matter..." she trailed off and sat, without modesty, upon the dirty ground. Thrae would have blushed if her face had been human. "Wait," began Lira, tilting her head and narrowing her eyes at the white beast. The unicorn took a step back, did this fay sense that she was not a true unicorn? "You're a unicorn, that means you can do magic. Make me a stream or a pond of pure water so that I may not thirst."
Thrae was fearful then, she must comply for fear this fire demon would burn her, or learn she was not a true unicorn. But how was she to work such craft? She thought of the horn on her head and thought of water. She thought of how kind Lira had seemed back at the clearing, despite the frightful sight of the dragon in the fire. She pawed the ground on a whim that in might work, and to her relief water bubbled from the dust, boiling and bubbling and moving until a small pond formed itself before her. She sighed again, which came out as a happy "Pbbbbt" and nodded her head.
Pleased Lira stood and walked to the water, "Well," she said, then appeared most regal, puffing out her chest and raising her chin, "well done, beast," it sounded more like she was congratulating herself as she then knelt and drank from the pool. When she finished, "There, now you may have some." Thrae was parched, running so long and then being so frightened had made her thirsty. She lowered her head and drank.
"Disgusting," said Lira in reply to the slurping sounds and she promptly marched over to lay in the dirt again. Thrae guessed, even more so, that this girl must be fay. She looked like a woman, but acted like a child, a spoiled one. She was suddenly tired and came to lay beside Lira, who sat up against the cave wall so Thrae could rest her head across her lap. Soon they were both asleep.
A growl woke Thrae and she had to force herself to freeze to keep from stomping Lira to death as she was met with several pairs of glowing wolfen eyes. Lira was already awake and looked just as frightened. If she were a dragon lady, could she not transform and scare these creatures away? The unicorn couldn't move.
"That's alright," said Lira, smirking at the creatures. "I'll just.." she tried to remember the burning, the pain, the power, but couldn't summon it. She couldn't get herself to change. That wretched fairy had indeed fooled her! She was doomed to walk nude in the forest forever? Left to become bone at the jaws of wolves? Or worse, return home in shame? Her eyes were wide with helplessness.
Thrae noticed Lira's distress and got to her feet, she didn't know what was wrong, but couldn't just let these wolves eat her. Acting on instinct, she kicked and bucked, but this only excited the wolves who snapped and growled more intensely. Panicking she felt a warm comfort rise up from her chest and up her spine, into her horn. She lowered her head toward the wolves and swept it around, boldly corralling them and stomped at them with purpose. She felt the magic shielding them both, the wolves seemed suddenly distracted. They were playing amongst themselves and licking each other, yipping and barking all in good fun like pups until they finally ran off in a bundle of playful paws and tails.
As soon as they were out of sight, she felt the power fade, and with it did her strength. She sensed Lira beside her, felt her hand on her shoulder, then all was dark.
The unicorn swayed, then fell toward her. Lira was sure the weight of the animal would crush her, but in what seemed to be a cloud of smoke and glitter the thing that fell on her was that of a small young woman. Her skin was pale and soft, lips creamy and her cheeks were flushed, the light shining of her hair was the only hint that this girl and the unicorn had been on in the same. Her breasts were small and humble, her body thin and meek. Finally recapturing her wits, she gathered the unconscious girl from on top of her and then lay her down deeper in the cave. She looked so innocent laying there, Lira couldn't help but stare, in spite of herself. She was suddenly embarrassed, not an emotion she usually felt, and she felt the need to cover the other girl's nudity.
Was this a trick? Was she fay? A sorceress perhaps? Or did all unicorns keep the form of an innocent maiden? Lira shook her head, it didn't matter for the time being. Now she needed to find them both clothing, or at least clothing for herself. In the presence of this girl in human form, she felt shame, though had felt no such thing in the presence of a unicorn. But this girl was the unicorn wasn't she?
Frowning, the Princess of Brinzell wandered out of the cave, but now she felt guilty for leaving the girl unguarded. Besides, she knew nothing of weaving together grass and leaves, not to mention the idea of wearing such a thing disgusted her, contrary to her love of hiking. She knew there were no threads or cloth out here either. With a sigh, she turned back around and positioned her long hair about her so that it covered her breasts and sat down near the girl. She hugged her knees tightly and rested her head upon them, watching the girl uneasily. The flush was gone from her pale cheeks, yet she slept on, and soon from the boredom and lazy heat, Lira slept too.
