class was finally out, so it was just about time to grab her headphones and jam out during the free time. It wasn't like she had anything else going on so it was pretty much her default. Still, that was a walk back to the dorms as she didn't want to bring her equipment to class. That would be dangerous, potentially damaging her gear. And so, she quickly threw her things into her bag and threw that over her shoulder in a pseudo-masculine demeanor, and set out of the room. No rush to walk there, and besides, she felt pretty good about herself today so why not enjoy the journey as well as the end? Ah, quoting music mid post.
Still, she did take note of the various people in the hallway. Some were chatting, some were hurrying along, and fewer were just reading something and casually walking back to wherever they came from. And then there was her. That girl with the guitar. What was she doing? Any fellow music fanatic simply had to be approached. She likely just came from class but still, it was a needed conversation.
"What kind of guitar is that?" she asked, fully aware that she herself wouldn't know the difference.

With classes over, Margeaux found herself with time. The band room was free and she wanted to take advantage of that. Sure, she could always practice in her room. But, she was often concerned that her playing might bother a few neighbors. So, it was best to head to where the rooms were properly sound proofed and play to her heart's content. The American strolled along the halls and hummed a quiet little tune to herself.
The case could be a little tricky to navigate the crowded halls, but she had figured out how to do so without knocking into anybody. Even if it was a bit unwieldy. As she navigated around classmates, somebody called out. A voice that carried a question about the instrument in question. Margeaux stopped and looked around. A girl she didn't recognize was talking to her. Her lone, blue eye blinked.
"Oh...this?" she held the case up, "It's a dobro."
Was this a fellow guitarist? She didn't recognize her from any of the music clubs. Perhaps she hadn't decided where to join yet. Well, if she was curious, Margeaux would certainly be happy to help. And if the conversation simply revolved around music? Who was she to complain?

Perfect, she answered. Now to engage further. This was still a new face so it was best not to pry too much, but engaging in a musical discussion was always a good thing. Hopefully this girl hadn't heard her voice before - much as her show needed hits, she didn't want to go around asking for them.
"Nice, nice." she folded her arms and nodded. "I'm just assuming, but you're probably good with it right?" an honest assumption, considering the girl didn't seem to be average for Astraea. Come to think of it, Arceia was actually a Spanish name, and Kinsley was very American. She should ask about her own ethnicity sometime. This girl was DEFINITELY not Japenese though, that much was obvious. And by that token, she was either really good at her guitar or really smart, or really rich to be able to afford going to school here. It was a safe bet that she was the first one.
"Oh, sorry, always forget my manners. Arceia Kinsley. You?" she extended a hand.

Her question was rather...direct. Margeaux wasn't quite sure how to answer, at first. She knew her level of skill and was quite confident in her abilities. But, the question was put so bluntly and so suddenly, that she was caught a bit off guard.
"Uh, yeah." she replied, after taking a brief moment to collect herself, "Been playing for a while now."
Almost her whole life, in fact. With the amount of practice she's had, over the years, she had better be good at it. Margeaux showed less hesitation in taking the offered hand and giving a shake. She was a bit of a strange girl...but that was hardly something a Devereaux could judge a person for. She added a smile to the handshake.
"I'm Margeaux Devereaux." she introduced herself, "Nice to meet you."
Arceia Kinsley. She didn't recognize the name, either. And it was certainly the kind of name she would remember. The name was almost as out of place around Astreae Hill as her own.
"Do you play, too?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

Now that was an unusual name. And hey, right on the money with that guess. Oh, but then came the part she would need to properly explain. This could be difficult to word properly without saying 'I'm a Dj' outright.
"Nah, I just love music. It's sort of a passion for me but I can't play worth a damn." she shrugged with her arms folded, in a sort of silly way. "But I do know a lot of the here and there when it comes to bands and stuff."
So that begged another question. Was the girl here on scholarship or on rich parents? Ah, well, that could be too personal to ask on a first meeting. Better keep it simple and stick to music. So, if she played guitar she probably wasn't much for dubs, wubs, or step. Specifically in that order. But she might be a metalhead or a rocker. Maybe something grunge-ish? It depends really. Sizing the girl's musical tastes up by her attire was hard considering the Spica uniform was so... Not musically inviting. Time for wild guesses.
"Don't tell me - Guns and Roses fan?" she tilted her head to one side. "Or maybe Celldweller?"

Ah, so she wasn't a musician. Well, that was fine. The girl was a pretty big fan of music and Margeaux could appreciate that. There would even appear to be a few crossovers in what they liked. Although Margeaux knew that her tastes could stray into a few older and more obscure territories. Not many of her classmates were big blues fans.
"Sure, I like Guns n' Roses." she said, "I like a lot of bands, actually. Mostly, though, I really love blues and jazz. Don't play much jazz, though. Blues is a lot more fun on the guitar. How about yourself?"
She wasn't sure what brought this sudden interest on. Perhaps it was just curiosity. Whatever it was, Arceia was certainly an interesting person. With a very curious approach to things.

Jazz and blues? Alright, she could work with that. Probably not as well as she could have with trance, but hey, music is a diverse thing.
"If I had to pick," she began, "I'd label myself a trance and dubstep girl. But I know my share of old stuff too. Sinatra and Elvis regularly get thrown into my shuffle." She gave it a second thought, maybe hoping to come up with more names the girl might know. "Oh, and I can't go anywhere without Bon Jovi. Just to name a few."
Curiously enough, this was almost out of her element. Almost. She knew lots of modern music but not a whole lot of things older than she was. In fact, she only knew older than her music when she found trance or dub remixes of it and looked up the source. Shameful? Maybe. Legitimate way to discover old music? Definitely.
"You in a band?"

"Dubstep, huh?" Margeaux didn't listen to much of that. It wasn't so much that she didn't like it, more that she just never spent much time with the genre. Although it certainly did strike her as an odd looking sort of music. Most of the songs that had heavy digital effects tended to do that, though.
"Well, that's cool!" she said. It was a bit odd to hear Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley's names tossed into the mix, but not too foreign of a concept. Those were two artists who certainly earned their share of longevity. It was good to hear that there were other people her age who could still appreciate the classics.
"No, I don't have a band." she said, "Mostly, I just play a few solo numbers, sometimes I get together with a friend of mine, from Miator, who also plays guitar."

Not in a band, but had musical friends. That was an interesting statement, for sure, but something else was in the air by that point. The girl was probably busy and Arceia was taking up her time, but this was all stuff she felt she needed to ask about. She didn't meet legitimate musicians very often, despite going to school with a literal choir - nobody played anything around here. This was too good to pass up. The other thing in the air though?
"Any goals for down the road with this?" She asked with another head tilt. "Someone going to school here who plays guitar has got to be going places right?"
It always amazed her when people here were so diverse. Her initial thought after seeing how much it cost to go here was that it would be nothing but super rich kids, super geniuses, and super rich geniuses. Nothing like a guitarist. Her first year distinctively proved that Astraea was a mixed bowl, contrary to its weighty name.

Again, that question had come up. The last time, it was with Rin. Her good friend from Miator had also wondered where Margeaux's music might take her. Given the history of her family, it was hard to imagine doing anything else. Not that she had given a great deal of thought towards the future. Margeaux just knew what she liked to do and...well, did it. The questions kept the redhead sufficiently distracted. Just thinking back to the Halloween party was likely to turn her face a bright red. For reasons that were still a bit confusing.
"I suppose so." she said, "But, yeah, I'd like to do something with music. I love playing guitar."
Her reply was about as enthusiastic as the last time she had answered the question. Although, it was tempered a bit. Mostly due to the fact that she hadn't just been performing live on stage. And, perhaps, that she was talking to a stranger. Although it was a pleasant conversation. She was growing more and more relaxed as they stood in the hall.

So, there was that. The next generation of musician was before her, and regardless of popularity in the long run this girl would probably make something worth listening to. Every song had a personality behind it, and someone out there will see it and bond with it, no matter the genre or tone. The truth was, Arceia was a bit envious. She wished she could play music. But, she supposed playing other people's music over the radio was as good a substitute as any.
"You'll have to tell me next time you're doing a show around here. I'll come out and support it." she said, knowing the girl had never said anything about doing a show of any sort. "In fact, I could probably set you up with a radio show at some point if you get something you wanna share that way."
At this point, despite her wanting to keep her DJ job quiet out of principle, she figured having a local Astraea girl on would make for more relatable entertainment. If anybody tuned in to Arctic Radio, and heard a local performance, they'd be encouraged to find out more, right? Couldn't hurt to try.

Getting played on the radio? Naturally, this was the goal of any aspiring musician. But, to do so, so quickly? Margeaux was flattered by the offer. Both for the airplay and the offer of support. Beyond the Halloween Party, Margeaux had no real plans for a live performance. Outside of what the club activities offered. And those events were often well attended to begin with.
Margeaux had to consider this. She would need to find some other people to play with. Something like an actual band! Hey, you had to start somewhere, right? "That would be great!" she said, "Thank you, very much!"
Honestly, she didn't know where to begin, in her search. She wasn't even sure what she wanted to do. "I'll keep you up to date, then." the American smiled, then her curiosity popped up again, "What radio show is it?"

Oh yeah, she had to know the show didn't she? Reasonable enough to ask. Damn though, how to BS this explanation?
"No problem. I'm friends with someone who has an in with an internet station that is based right here on campus." She began. "Non profit, but it's good publicity for you and the station I'd say. Here, I'll write the URL down for you."
This gave her a moment to ponder. She reached into her bag and pulled out a notebook, a pen, and then pressed both against the wall to write on. As she wrote, she had to decide the best course of action from here about this whole ordeal. Does she ask for a recording of the girl's work? Does she bring her on live? if so, how to go about that without blowing the whole mystery thing? It wasn't essential, but it was definitely fun to do. Who doesn't like to be Tuxedo Mask in a manner of speaking every so often?
"Here you go. Thursdays, 7:00AM to 11:00AM. Here's the website, location, and I also added a Skype name in case you can't make it in person. You probably won't get me directly but whoever you get should be able to walk you through the whole setup. It's nothing major, but it would be fun to have some local talent on the show."

Well, this sure was exciting! An internet station that was based on campus? Astreae Hill sure did have a lot to offer it's students. And this girl seemed to be a pretty big music aficionado, which was always fun to run into. She still didn't have much prepared for it. That just meant she would have to get her act together, sooner. Maybe she could even advertise for new band members! It sounded like an interesting way to find out some people.
"That would be great!" she smiled, as the girl jotted down the information. When she had the paper in her hand, she set down her guitar, so she could fold it up and put it in the pocket of her school blazer.
"I'm looking forward to it." she said, "I don't have any original songs, but maybe I could play a few old numbers from where I grew up. It might be fun for some people who haven't heard it, before."
