Please explain your character's personality in 200 words or more: Aideen wants to stand out but isn't really sure how to do it. Her prosopagnosia renders her unable to differentiate people and this makes her seem withdrawn and self absorbed. She has tried to have friends but not being able to recognize them day to day has taken its toll. Her inability to read social cues doesn't help with making friends either. Unless their body language is very obvious, Aideen has no idea if a person is annoyed, happy, sad, or angry, though she's gotten a little better at reading the emotion in their voice.
She has a drive, a deep desire that fuels her, and that is to seperate herself from the anonymous masses and be recognized. This stemmed from her inability to recognize herself in pictures or in a mirror which led to her imagining herself as just another anonymous face. She longs for fame but doesn't believe she can ever have it since recognizing people is an important part of life. When it comes to schooling, she's average at best. She doesn't work very hard and gets acceptable scores. While the teachers and staff know about her condition, she doesn't like to mention it to people, preferring to just say she's bad with faces.
What does you character think of the Etoile position as a whole? Aideen doesn't idolize the Etoiles, at least, not in the normal way. Aideen envies them, the power, the fame, she'd love to be like them, more than a face in the crowd. She keeps actual pictures of them clipped to her ipad so that she can always recognize them. Sometimes she dreams of standing in front of the crowds and seeing the faces of the people for the first time. Aideen wants to be an Etoile, but her handicap makes it unlikely that she would be a very good one even if she had the chance. The Etoiles represent what she wants but doesn't believe she can have. They are her dream.
Does your character want to be an Etoile someday? Yes
What does your character think of Sado Kagami and Kitsuki Sha, the current etoiles? If she could keep any sort of friendship or relationship with the Etoiles, or anyone for that matter, it's likely that she would look up to Sado Kagami as a role model. Someone proud and strong, a person with a strong personality who is not likely to be forgotten. She'd likely get along with Kitsuki. Though Aideen wouldn't admire her personality, she would gain confidence at seeing how Kitsuki has excelled despite being deaf.
What does your character think of the other schools? Aideen doesn't really care about the other schools, she doesn't expect to become a bride and she's not planning to have any significant effect on the world. The other two schools are just for girls who are following a different path.
~History~
History before Astraea Hill: Aideen grew up as a middle child of five. She has two older brothers and two younger ones. Being the only daughter, her mother rather doted on her but Aideen never felt especially special. Most of the time she felt like just another face in the crowd. Part of this might have been due to her prosopagnosia which her parents noticed while she was very young. Aideen couldn't tell her brothers apart, or her parents. Worse still, she couldn't tell family apart from strangers. That was when they first began treating her medically. Nothing seemed to work or even help. Eventually they switched to less medically sound techniques, including herbal inventions and acupuncture. It was during this time that they learned something new about Aideen. She was very susceptible to hypnosis. Even without prompting, the dancing flame of a candle leaves her in a trance like state.
Aideen had been mostly homeschooled up until this point. A lot of the treatments had left her weak or sickly and there was the danger that something bad might happen. However, her parents had heard about a special trio of schools with their own private grounds and a fairly rigid structure. They felt that it was best that Aideen go to oneand perhaps more exposure to people might just help her along, even if it didn't solve her problem. Aideen was fascinated by the schools, and most of all by the Etoiles. They were special, more than just a face in the crowd and becoming one would be a way to stand out among the faceless shades that filled her life.
First Year: Her first year was uneventful, she tried making friends, but many of them grew tired of how Aideen would ignore them in the halls. They took offense when she could never remember their names. Aideen couldn't meet them for lunch, or for anything and so, slowly, they began to split away from her.
Second Year: She spent much of her second year alone, reading, studying, and just being dull. She'd become another face in the crowd.
Third Year: She'd received a present. A tablet pad with a touch screen that could take photos. There was even a program on there for sorting through them. Suddenly she was taking it everywhere. All the staff had a photo on the pad so that Aideen could quickly find out their name and why she should be listening to them. She'd gotten quite fast at going through the sorting procedure and had even started arranging people into groups. Staff, student council, Etoiles, family, herself, she had a section for them all. However she still kept two actual photos of the Etoiles taped to the sides of the tablet for quick identification. With this new device, she thought she might even be able to keep a few friends.
Third Year part B: She started making connections with some people though they really didn't become anything she can think of worth mentioning. The exception being her roommate Alice who has become almost friendly in the last year. Being the only person Aideen dealt with on a nearly permanent basis, it's become the closest thing to a real friendship she's had. Her collection of pictures in her tablet has grown as well but is still an important tool in her everyday life.
Fourth Year: She broke out of her shell, making friends and almost gaining some imitation of popularity. This caused a bit of strife between her and Alice at first but she's been working very hard to stay close to her first real friend. She started considering taking a more active role in the school as well but wasn't quite brave or self confident enough to try for student council just yet. She's dropped her sights from Etoile because, though she'd love the position, nobody has come to her with the offer.
Fifth Year: Love blossomed, in the beginning of the year, her roommate Alice proposed that they become a couple. Hesitant to come out but excited at the process, Aideen accepted under the condition that their relationship be kept hidden. This lasted until Christmas when Aideen came to terms with the idea. She told her parents and then told Alice that she was willing to come out publicly with her and more than that, run for Etoile. Over the next semester, Aideen worked hard to become even more of a public figure, even convincing an old rival not to give up her bid for etoile, for better or for worse.
Sample Post: Aideen sat in the middle of a large crowd of other students filling the auditorium. A woman was talking about the coming school year way up at the front, behind the podium. The air was hot with so many bodies in one area and there wasn't even a window to let in a breeze. She held her new ipad in her lap and her fingers danced across the screen and pictures began to flash across the screen. It stopped with two images. Aideen looked at them and then up at the woman speaking. She was not likely to be one of the cooks so that made her the head of this place. Aideen glanced at the other faces on the stage, she checked the picture taped to the side of the pad, those two were the Etoiles this year. She bit her tongue, maybe this year she'd have her chance, she was getting a new dorm, after all, and maybe with her ipad she could finally make a real friend.
She sighed quietly and watched as the speaking woman stopped and was replaced by a different figure. Aideen glanced down at the picture and matched up the feature to the older Etoile. She leaned forward, her eyes closed. She'd foundthat with her eyes being how they were, she'd get better results if she just kept them closed a more often. It had helped her focus a little but annoyed teachers who though she was sleeping. She flicked her hand across the screen, locking it, as the Etoile began to talk about the upcoming events. Aideen swore she'd do better this year, by the end of it she was sure she would have a friend she wouldn't need the ipad for.
