Appearance: Nayuki is a tall and thin girl. Thanks to her training she has some muscles and a very little amount of fat on her body. Her skinny body is suffering from years without proper eating, but as she’s still in the same shape at Astraea where the food has no limits, it shows that Nayuki’s never been one to eat much. She seems to be eating just what she needs to be walking and doesn’t have an appetite for more than this.
Her arms, legs and fingers are long and slender always moving with grace. She’s always dressed in clothing that perfectly framed her pretty figure and her hair is sometimes set up or styled by flowers.
Hair color: crimson.
Hair style: long loose hair with a side fringe, over the last year at Spica her hair has started to curl slightly as it was naturally straight before. She’s no longer colouring her hair, having come to terms with its colour thanks to the atmosphere and people at Astraea helping her dealing with her demons.
Eye color: Blue.
View of the Etoiles: Nayuki has much respect towards the etoiles. She treats them both with the right titles as well as polite manners. But as she’s usually not interested in befriending any of the etoiles she is quite cold to both girls as well, never smiling or speaking words of warmth. She is simply not rude to the two of them. Despite the uke Etoile’s shy behaviour Nayuki is seemingly not too considerate about this either, not treating her differently from stronger personalities.
View of other schools: Nayuki respects girls from other schools just as if they were from her own. She quite admirers Miator for their gardening classes as she loves flowers herself. Still she may generalize Lulim students as too sweet for her taste.
Height: 179 cm. (5’10 ½ ft.) Usually seen as taller in her heeled shoes.
Glasses: No.
Dress: St. spica dress at school. Outside school she always dress in fashionable, glamorous and elegant clothes. She is not too much of a fan of skirts and dresses on a daily basis but her tops and pants are still very feminine. There’s no doubt that she knows how to pick out her clothes carefully as well as spending quite some time getting dressed in the morning. Her room is always filled with fashion magazines and she has too many clothes in her closet.
Personality: Cold and blunt could shortly describe much of this tall girl’s personality. She has a habit of coming off as quite rude and forward. The tall beauty is admired as a lone wolf, making people shy away due to this reputation. But despite her rudeness she is polite when people are keeping their distance to her, only showing her rude side when she wants to shove students away from getting too attached to her. She respects all students and treats them with no difference despite them having titles or being one of the girls in the crowd. This does not count for the people who are pressing themselves on her, on the other hand. If someone’s getting too close to her she’ll usually treat this person, as mentioned earlier, with rudeness and seem as though she is mad at the certain person. This is in truth simply a defence wall she’s build around herself over the years. A wall that is to keep people from entering her heart and she enter theirs.
In truth Nayuki’s a shy girl, as soon as one breaks down her wall. She’s kind, caring and is in fact yearning for friendship and love. It’s not difficult to make her blush under any circumstances but she’s usually avoiding situations where she knows she would be exposed for flirting or embarrassment. Still she tends to get dragged into such situations just as it is.
Nayuki is always trying to seem like a perfect girl, and to many students she may seem like just that. Always keeping everything tidy and in order, having schedules for each day, performing daily routines like a machine and never making flaws while doing so. But she is in truth having a hard time doing this. She is not strong at the school subjects, having problems with both mathematical subjects and language. Nayuki always does her best none the less, spending hours doing her homework. And whenever someone offers her a helping hand on the matter she’s quick to rudely dismiss it. This is where her strong sense of independency shows. She’s set to do things on her own, having pretty much cared for herself since her parents’ death. What is rarely shown is her clumsy side, which was a huge part of her as a child. She would easily drop things and stumble across something as she walked. But after the fire accident where her clumsiness was at fault, she was determined to get rid of any traits of her clumsy side. Still she’s never fully been able to kill all traces to her past and when she’s not fully paying attention to her movements(which she almost always does) she will quickly do something clumsy.
Nayuki is a girl in love with fashion and design. Ever since she was little she had always showed interest in drawing and colouring shapes that fit and arranged her own clothes. Her room was filled with the design patter she liked the most, flowers, which were always the inspiration for her designs. When she chose clothes they would always remind her of a flower. These interests have followed Nayuki as she grew up and she’s never let go of her passion. She would often seek the company of plants for new ideas or to calm her mind, enjoying the smell, air and feeling of the flowers’ presence.
But the tall red haired girl was transferred to St. Spica out of the three schools before beginning her fifth year much due to her love of music and interest in sports. She had always been an active girl, doing very good in physical education classes. It wasn’t until she turned twelve that her activity chose a certain branch to follow: aikido. Her training in this martial art has followed her as another way of letting her emotions loose and calming down. At St. Spica there was the best opportunity for keeping up this interest, being allowed to visit the green house at any time despite her being from another school.
At home, when not being out training or admiring flowers Nayuki found love in music from an early age as well. She meant all instruments could make beautiful music but chose to learn violin as a sixth year old. She never stopped playing the instrument either, sometimes bringing it with her out to some place where she could play passionately by herself. – Never liking to play in front of an audience. But she loved to move to her music. Almost dancing to the tunes from her violin, her body would spin with the grace she had been taught through aikido. She is not practising her instrument daily, not having time for that anymore, but is still a good musician.
Still out on a daily basis few students do know of Nayuki’s interest in aikido. She’s never performing anything close to the techniques or showing much of the smoothness that’s typical for this sport outside the training hall. But the hours of yoga and stretching have made her quite flexible.

History:
Before coming to Astraea:
Nayuki was born out on the countryside as the second child at a small farm with no animals but chickens and surrounded by huge fields. It was a small town where pretty much all civilians knew each other. They went shopping the one food mart in town and would beside that exchange a lot of their harvest. Her mother came from the city while her father had been a farmer all his life and now owned his parents’ farm. She had left her life in the city and was now living the life as a farmer as well.
As a young girl, people would call Nayuki ‘the flower girl,’ running around in small dresses, barefooted through the fields with flowers in her hair. She would smile and laugh as the brightest sun and was loved in her little town. In her early years she loved to pick flowers and bring them home to her mother, father, older sister or her grandparents in the neighbour house, but she was always saddened to see them falter. So instead she would run out to enjoy their beauty without picking them up from the ground. If she wanted a flower she would always make sure they still had their roots beautifully planted in the soil in a flowerpot.
For the flowers she didn’t know, Nayuki would name them, such as “Pinky pi” and “Sky flower.” This also made her keep better track on the flowers when using their looks in her design drawings. At the age of four her grandmother (father’s mother) gave her a book about flowers, which gave her great knowledge about the flowers.
Nayuki’s older sister, Mai, was two years older than her with long black hair. She was the tough and strong figure the little girl always looked up to. Nayuki herself on the other hand was easily scared, clumsy and weak. She was born small and wouldn’t come to reach her growing period until she reached the age of thirteen. Mai would always be a very protective sister to the small red haired girl with the deep blue eyes, so different to the rest of the family’s brown ones. It was her mother’s father who had the same blue colour on his eyes as Nayuki. He lived in the city and it would take nine years for Nayuki to get to know who he truly was.
The earlier years of Nayuki’s childhood was like living a dream to what had yet to come. Her parents were loving, caring and usually home or around the farm somewhere to greet her when she arrived home from school or other places. If they weren’t inside the house the small girl would always know where to run to find them. She would often be outside playing with friends if not helping her parents working or running the fields by herself. This dream however ended on her 8th birthday. Her mother, father and sister were gathered in the living room for a celebration with a cake, having eight burning candles on top and drinks for everyone. Soda for three of them while Nayuki’s father had always loved stronger drinks. Thus there was also a bottle of alcohol right next to the cake. This little detail was enough to make a small accident turn so much worse in a short time.
Nayuki sitting on the end of the table placed both hands down on it and rose from her chair. This gave her a better view to blow out the candles on the cake but the young girl never got that far. On her way Nayuki accidentally tipped her cup over, all of her soda spilling out on the table, making her slip and fall forward. In a split second the cake and the bottle of alcohol were on the floor, the candles lighting up the liquid in a split second. The kitchen table was on fire, spreading in an enormous speed. It all happened so fast and Nayuki barely got time to process what had happened. Taking in her surroundings her mother and sister were screaming while her father desperately thought out what to do.
In a short time realizing there was no use saving the living room he started shouting for the others to get out. The two oldest females got up from their chairs and made it for the door, looking back at the shocked Nayuki. “Nayuki!” Her mother shouted but Nayuki couldn’t do anything but staring at the fire, her body shaking. The fright overwhelmed her and removed her ability to move, making her sit on her chair and tremble. Strong arms wrapped around the little girl and her father lifted her up just as a bit of the old roof above down on them. The fire had reached her father’s liquid closet and continued to the roof, eating up the already quite worn out house.
Caught under heavy timber Nayuki’s father groaned in pain, having saved Nayuki from being hit but not his lower body. Finally waking up from her state of shock Nayuki screamed at her father to stand up, but he couldn’t. Seeing this Nayuki’s mother told Mai to go out, pushing her to the exit before running back to her husband. With tears in her eyes she kneeled down by him, desperately trying to move the tree on top of him. By now the whole living room was on fire eating up on the different furniture. Mai came back into the house, and despite how her mother screamed at her to stay out she was determined to help. Nayuki did her best to help as well but it was to no use. More of the roof started falling, trapping them inside the living room. The smoke inside the room had made them all starting to cough heavily. Realizing that the most important thing was to get her daughters out of the burning house she first picked up Nayuki, jumping through the flames to get her out of the living room. The last thing Nayuki remembered after this was her mother disappearing back into the flames to get her sister before the smoke got to her and the faint sound of sirens coming to their rescue.
Nayuki woke up several times, finding herself in a strange bed each time. It wasn’t until she woke for the fourth time that she managed to stay awake for a small while, seeing a nurse by her side in the hospital. She was smiling down at the small girl asking her how she was feeling. Nayuki replied that she was feeling fine which for a moment brought a small from to the lady’s face, but it was soon replaced by a reassuring smile. “That’s good.” She told the red haired girl before darkness once again came over Nayuki.
The next time Nayuki awoke she found herself in great pain. There was another nurse by the bed this time. And a man Nayuki could identify as a doctor. Neither one of them wore smiles and instead sat down by the bed, taking Nayuki’s hands. What they told her is words the young girl would never forget. -Words that tore her world apart and changed her forever. “Nayuki-chan…” The doctor began slowly, making the girl’s blue orbs meet his. “Your house has been burnt down by the fire. As the firemen got control over the fire the house was not to save.” He said sadly watching the small girl’s reaction. She looked pained by this but kept quiet, no longer having her eyes on him. “Your body hurts now as well because it was burnt by the fire. In time it won’t hurt anymore but you might have to keep on tending to the skin.” He told her slowly. She looked back up at him and then to the bandages on her body. This made her miss the look the doctor sent the new nurse. A sympathetic look filled with sadness. “Nayuki-chan… There is something else we have to tell you. Your family…They…”
Checking out from the hospital eight years old Nayuki was sent to live with her mother’s parents in the city as her father’s parents, whom had been the grandparents she was bound to, had died some time back. She had met them regularly all her life but had never truly felt bound that to them. In the city Nayuki spent the next three years adjusting to her new life and somehow managing to keep on living each day without her parents and sister.
Her new caretakers weren’t that bad, that is her grandmother was all right but she feared to be alone with her grandfather. Luckily her grandmother would always be there as a strong woman to protect her whenever her grandfather was badmouthing her or bossing her around. She knew that her grandmother cared for her and felt a great deal sorry for her after what had happened. Her grandfather on the other hand seemed to dislike the fact that Nayuki survived the fire and the others died. He had always seemed to prefer Mai over Nayuki. The young girl had noticed this after living with Keichi and Asuka for about a year. In the beginning Nayuki would only find him grumpy and see him a man that kept to himself, but through time he would show more and more of his true colours.
Just before she turned eleven Nayuki’s grandmother fell ill and was sent to a hospital. Asuka had become a victim of cancer but was sent home after some time. But just a year later the 77 years old woman lost to the illness and died in the hospital. This had up till now been a huge challenge for Nayuki, being forced to handle many days alone with her grandfather without her protector to help her. On one side it had forced her to become stronger, but she was constantly filled with fear. When her grandmother died she was completely left to herself. The care and love Asuka had given Nayuki was all gone.
Secretly to the grandfather that still paid for her food and needs Nayuki started taking free Aikido lesions. They would help her and somehow comfort her in the times where her grandfather turned violent. Her teacher was a calm man with great interest in the young girl and also helped her getting in touch with someone that could give her violin lesions. It had been three years since she had been playing and she picked up her old interest with great joy. Not only did her hobbies keep her away from the house but it also helped her show the feelings she always had problems expressing by words.
Her grandfather would never care too much about what she did. He would usually stay at home watching TV by himself.
From the death of her grandmother Nayuki grew more and more independent. Her past made her distant to others but she found comfort in a few people such as her aikido teacher and violin teacher. They would never annoy her or pry in something that wasn’t their business, which the young girl liked. At school she sat by herself and had problems keeping up in class. She would keep quiet and observe people if they decided to sit by her in lunchtime and would come with short blunt replies to those who tried having a conversation with her. No one seemed to have the patience to get to truly know her and she would always tell herself that she was fine with it.
Time had been nice to the young girl and she grew more and more beautiful. Her feminine curves and tall appearance was in full bloom in her early teen years while her face matured as well. And her life went on. Every day was quite similar and she would try making a goal to herself for what she was fighting for. Passing a store on her way home she saw a model dressed in the latest autumn fashion on the front page. The sight of this was like a magical sign to the girl and she decided to follow the interest that had always been with her. She wanted to use her designs for a living.
Nayuki’s life made another drastic turn after the girl had turned fifteen. The reason for this happened on a Friday when Nayuki got home from school. Her grandfather was in a bad mood as always. Over the last year it wasn’t unusual for him to slap her, shove her into the wall and even hit her when she did something he didn’t like. He knew she wouldn’t show her body to anyone anyways due to her burns and didn’t fear any consequences. This day started off as it usually did but developed into something more. He sat in front of the TV, having spent money on gambling again and waited the results live. Soon finding out that he had foolishly lost quite a lot he took his anger out on his grandchild. Screaming at her Nayuki defended herself, telling him that gambling was his problem and not hers. He would continue lashing out how he paid for her living and how she never gave her anything back or worked to earn money. Standing up the old man pushed her down on the floor cursing her for taking away all the family he had. He told her how she was a curse that killed people around her and always would. Hiroshi continued saying she was at fault for Asuka’s death and the fire that killed her parents. Paralysed by his words Nayuki started trembling on the floor trying to tell herself that she wasn’t at fault. But in her heart she had always blamed herself, just like her grandfather did and she was pained to hear the same truth she knew, from him.
Somehow seeing his grandchild on the floor brought forth an even darker side of the man. Finally he had the cause for all of his suffer down on the floor. This girl whom had taken away his dear child and then given his wife the deathly illness. He wanted nothing but to make her suffer like he had, ending the death curse she was. Kicking the girl she let out a yelp of pain, clutching her hurting stomach. Before he got to deliver a second blow she got up and started for the door. But as her stomach hurt her grandfather was faster and he grabbed her arm throwing her down the other way. Distinctly wanting to get away she crawled into the kitchen her eyes finding the window quickly. Hiroshi had followed his granddaughter and tried hitting her when she was standing up but she just managed to dodge it. The miss made the older man furious and he yelled at her yet again, smirking when he saw the girl having problems opening the window. Taking a step forward he raised his hands to strike her head but the young girl beat him to it, grabbing a knife and showing it into his chest. Both individuals surprised Hiroshi took a couple of steps back, looking down at his chest. Nayuki stared at the man’s chest as well her eyes wide and body frozen. “You…” The man uttered and coughed falling down to his knees and then to the ground. Blood started streaming from his would and down on the floor while his breathing slowed. Seeing what she had done the girl quickly went to find the phone and dial for help before running back to her grandfather. He was still awake on the floor but seemed to get worse by every second. Sitting by his side Nayuki watched her grandfather slowly die whispering his last words to remind her that she was a death curse.
After her grandfather’s death Nayuki was left into the hands of strangers. She was freed from any punishment as she acted in self-defense. Her new caretakers were caring people. They gave her all she wanted but she was distant and cold towards the two. The girl seemed to be lost in a new routine that the followed down to the smallest detail. She was to be perfect and never cause any harm or problems to anyone ever again. Nor would she ever let herself get close to anyone due to her curse that would always harm those around her. Her two caretakers, wanting to help her in any way possible saw it as an opportunity to make the girl transfer to a new school and start over. They had heard many people recommend the place and when bringing the subject up for Nayuki the girl had no objections. Thus the red haired girl transferred to St. Spica in an age of 16.
Her life at Astraea:
First year at the institute:
Nayuki’s first year at St. Spica went as smoothly as she would possibly imagine. She was elected at Student council president and earned a great deal of respect among the students. The girl lived by her own strict rules but liked it that way. Just like she had with her old school she would easily skip swimming classes to hide her burns, getting documented reasons for why she couldn’t swim together with the others. While living on the countryside the girl had always been found of swimming but after the fire accident she would always shy away from it. Through her first year Nayuki came close to befriending a couple of people.
First of all was the relationship she got to Kaminari Kameyo, a stubborn tomboy. Kaminari never stopped trying to get her way into Nayuki’s heart and was driven by her own crush on the girl. At this time Nayuki always dyed her hair black and it was still completely straight. To leave her past behind she desperately wanted to get rid of the colour of blood, which would also remind her of fire and would therefore dye it. The first person to see her true hair colour was Kaminari that also helped Nayuki after spraining her foot in the woods. Kaminari driven by her crush on Nayuki grew closer to the blue eyed girl and made the cold individual open up a lot.
Beside Kaminari Nayuki met the Etoile Rin Minigawa. They were both polite people of a sad past and she felt comfortable around the girl. Both respected each other but didn’t ask too many questions. Both knew which lines not to cross and seemed to be getting along fine. There was never built any friendship around the two by the meeting they had in the greenhouse but they still got to know each other.
To Nayuki’s greatest fear her body was exposed to a stranger by a flaw in her schedule in the bathhouse. She had not expected anyone to be there at the time but the shy girl Ayukawa Kotone, form St. Spica appeared. Angered by being seen Nayuki threatened the poor girl but felt sorry for her. Still she parted from the girl by telling her to never mention this to anyone.
Chieko Asakura was a curious girl wanting to help Nayuki with her duties for the cultural festival. The blonde had good ideas for the event and as much as Nayuki disliked it she was of great help to her. Somehow Chieko managed to never do anything wrong and always be just as nice towards Nayuki, making it hard for the fifth year to act mad towards her. By an accident the two fell and ended up sharing their first kiss, making Nayuki utterly flustered. Never having any fantasies about relationships this finally opened her eyes for a new world of love. She would after their accident always feel embarrassed when coming across the other girl, blushing madly when Chieko would look at her when she was playing music on stage. Still the two never truly met and spoke after the kiss.
Second year at the institute:
Nayuki’s next year started much like the first one. She tried her best to avoid the close to friendships she had built with people, never saw the same aged Spican Kaminari anymore and went on working behind her cold mask. That was until the winter came and with it the mysterious and luxurious winter ball. -This year not just a ball but a masquerade. Hidden behind her black mask and fully-covering tight hugging dress she glamorously entered the auditorium and met the beautifully charming Sado. It wouldn’t take long for Nayuki to be under her spell of mesmerizing words and utter kindness, making it hard to keep up her cold front.
After their first meeting that surely lightened something between the two, they met again and spent some time together, this only bringing them closer and building the growing romance between the two.
