Name: Jennifer Minakawa (ichigo)
Gender: Female.
Age: 14
Year in school: Third year
School Attending: St. Lulim Girls School
Partner: None!
Room mate: Let the school decide on that. I don't envy that girl though...
Appearance:
Hair color: Black
Hair style: Waist-length, no frills, hair in front could easily cover her eyes if she's not careful.
Eye color: light green.
Height: 4'10"
Dress: Just the school uniform is usually enough. This is probably a good thing, as letting her design her own outfit seems like a good way to create a mortal sin against cloth and color.
glasses: No
Personality: Flighty, scatter-brained and just plain not-all-there most of the time, Jennifer's mind often seems to be drifting in the cosmos somewhere. She's prone to saying things off-topic, far removed from common sense, and sometimes outrageous. She will notice subtle, complicated things sometimes while remaining ignorant of surroundings as obvious as the sun and moon. Somehow Jennifer never seems to have trouble passing her classes though....except anything related to physical activity. If a ball lands somewhere near Jen, she often doesn't react until it's long gone again.
When Jennifer is on her own, or just feels like she's on her own regardless of how many people are actually nearby, she likes to hum short little tunes to herself. She smiles a lot, though it's sometimes hard to tell whether she's smiling at something that's happening or something that's just in her head. One thing certain to give her a smile tied to the here-and-now is a bowl of cherries, her favorite food. When she heard she was going to move from the U.S. to Japan, Jennifer was overjoyed because she heard there were lots of cherry trees. Disappointment soon followed when she found out that most of them were bred to produce beautiful blossoms rather than delicious fruit.
View of the Etoiles: "Oh yeah, they had popularity contests back at my old school too. Do people ever elect couples they hate as a prank? Or throw rotten fruits at a couple they love?....maybe I was the only person who did that last one. That seems like a sad thing to me, more people need a strong fruit-throwing arm."
View of other schools: "Wait, they're different schools? Even though they're close together and mostly the same? Oh, they have a rivalry thingy. I guess I'll punch a rival if I REALLY have to. But only if they ask nicely!"
History: Born of Japanese parents in the United States, Jennifer's life was by all accounts a strange one. She became bilingual at an early age as the children of immigrants often do, and sometimes helped translate things for her parents who are still learning the finer points of English.
One of the most disturbing things Jennifer's parents noticed as she grew was that she rarely slept, if indeed she slept at all. The only thing she would say about it is that sleep "isn't good for me," and never seemed to complain about spending her nights with only a small lamp and stack of books to pass those lonely hours.
Sending Jennifer to Japan to finish her schooling was something her parents planned to do pretty much from day one. She always seemed out of place with her American classmates. Though, she'd probably seem out of place just about anywhere on Earth. She took the news of her impending migration with her usual cheer, mentioning that it would be wonderful to see the land where her parents grew up. Then she asked if people have dreams when they sleep over there.
Sample post:
The sun shone dazzlingly bright on the last day of summer. Strictly speaking there was quite a bit of summer to go, but it was the last day of American summer that Jennifer Minakawa was likely to see for a long time, and to her that was the exact same thing. Clear, shining, and blazing-hot, this was the kind of day that she remembers fondly. Not the slightest hint of cloud could be seen in the sky, which was just how Jennifer liked it. She felt that if she was just a bit lighter, she could go up there and swim in that ocean of blue forever. Or at least as long as she wanted, which might well be forever.
Thus Jennifer stood outside the house of her family, clad already in the uniform of her school-to-be. Not that she had to be, of course. Earlier that morning she had explained that she wanted to get used to it, and neither her mother nor father had any objections. The alternative, after all, was them having to put together Jen's outfit for her. Letting her decide her own clothes would be a measure only open if there was great need to leave the house, such as it being on fire.
Sometime later Jen sat next to her dear mother and father, waiting for the announcement that she could board the plane. The time between her standing outside their house and sitting at the airport was lost to her, a small blank in her mind that she noticed and tossed away with a shrug. After all such things happened to her all the time, and it never seemed to bother anyone. Her mother, with a sad smile, told Jen that she was proud of her daughter and to never forget what they talked about on the way here, which Jen answered with a smile and "Of course not. I never forget something important." That answer seemed to satisfy.
A few minutes of silence followed, giving Jennifer time to think about what her new school will be like. She had seen pictures of course, but the people seemed like they would be more important than the buildings. And the religion was everywhere. Was Jen really devout enough? Would the other people see her as strange? Do they all talk only in bible verses? These and other questions were mercifully interrupted by the airport's public address system saying that her plane was ready for boarding. Jen quickly kissed her parents goodbye and waved before dashing off towards a completely wrong flight. The panic and screaming to follow are probably best left out in the name of charity.
